MUSIC MINISTRY NEWS Ms. Janet Natale Director Our choirs are now preparing for the Lenten and Easter seasons at Saint James. If you would like to become a part of Music Ministry at Saint James the Apostle, please know that you are most welcome. Email: jnatale@saintjamesparish.org CHRISM MASS The Annual Chrism Mass will be held at the Cathedral- Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Newark on Monday, March 25 th at 8:00 p.m. Your Parish Priests and Deacons attend the Chrism Mass and it is fitting that members of the Parish also attend. The Sacred Oils for use at Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders and Anointing of the Sick are blessed/consecrated at this Mass. Each parish is asked to bring ten people. If you plan on coming or wish more information, please call the parish office. ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL -- MAKING A DIFFERENCE The Archdiocese of Newark’s Office of Human Concerns works to spread the Gospel’s challenge of our need to care for the poor and the marginalized within our society. It does this by making presentations in parishes, schools and religious education programs about the importance of Catholic Social Teaching, specific social issues and the importance of service in the life of the Church. The Office of Human Concerns also works with youth groups from both the Archdiocese of Newark and nationally who are looking for service projects and an opportunity to reflect on their experiences. During the last two summers, over 80 young people from around the country will come to the Archdiocese to serve the poor with service projects in our shelters, parishes and soup kitchens. This Office creates a greater awareness of the important social issues of the day such as poverty, climate change and fair housing by providing information to parishes and practical ways to be involved in making positive changes to the world. Thank you for your support of the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, which makes the Office of Human Concerns a reality! PARISH OPPORTUNITIES Get Involved and Get to Know Your Parish HOSPITAL VISITATIONS If you or someone you know is in the hospital please inform the hospital staff you are Catholic and a member of Saint James the Apostle Church. The priests and deacons will be able to find you so a visit can be arranged. Contact the Parish Office to be added at Mass and/or on the Prayer Line. HOW TO REPORT ABUSE The Archdiocese takes very seriously any and all allegations of sexual misconduct by members of the clergy, religious and lay staff. We encourage anyone with knowledge of an act of sexual misconduct to inform us immediately so that we may take appropriate action to protect others and provide support to victims of sexual abuse. If you wish to report an allegation call the Office of Child & Youth Protection -201-407-3256. INTENTIONS FOR THE SICK At the “General Intercessions” we pray for the sick. Our prayers for the sick are very important, especially in critical times of sudden illness, surgery or worsening condition. We will continue to pray for and mention the names of our sick parishioners when we receive notice from the family or the individual asking for prayers. Their name will be mentioned for three weeks and after the names will continue in the bulletin, until we receive notice otherwise. If the condition worsens we will mention the name again at Mass when notified. RECEIVING COMMUNION It is good to remind ourselves of the reverence needed when we receive the Body and Blood of Christ. When we approach the altar, if receiving on the hand, please remove any gloves beforehand. Remember to bow slightly without being ostentatious. If communion runs out please wait for the Minister to return. DEVOTIONALS AND MEMORIALS Spiritual Offerings SANCTUARY LAMP/BREAD & WINE If you would like to have a loved one remembered, you can reserve a week and have an intention memorialized. The Sanctuary Lamp is available for a donation of $15.00. The Bread and Wine is available for a donation of $20.00. You can make arrangements by calling the Parish Office 973-376-3044. MARIAN DEVOTION Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Miraculous Medal Novena, Rosary and Benediction takes place on Mondays (as scheduled) from 6:45-7:30pm at Saint James Church. Please feel free to join us. PERPETUAL ADORATION Can you volunteer as an Adoration Chapel Adorer Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mountainside needs two adorers per hour. NOCTURNAL ADORATION Saint John the Apostle Church, 1805 Penbrook Terrace in Linden has Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Benediction, Homily & Communion every First Friday from 8:30-9:30pm. WELLNESS MINISTRY Have You Heard About Girls on the Run Contact: Nancy.mahoney.rajs@gmail.com Girls on the Run are found across the United States and Canada serve girls in their local communities. The program is made up of a 20-lesson curriculum designed for 3rd – 8th grade girls and combines training for a 5k run with lessons that inspire them to recognize and honor their individual strengths and talents and to celebrate their inner selves. The spring program runs a 10-week season that gives girls the opportunity to participate in a non-competitive 5K running event. For most of the girls, this is the first time that they have ever attempted a physical goal of this magnitude and completion of the 5k provides an incredible feeling of strength and a real sense of accomplishment. The goals of the program are to aid and support girls in their emotional, physical, social and intellectual development. The girls complete the 10-week program with a stronger sense of identity, greater self-confidence, a healthier body image and a better knowledge of what it means to be a member of a team and a community.
