We pick-up the left-over items at Panera in Short Hills on Sunday evening and Monday mornings. We then drop the off at the Church on Monday morning. Everything is then delivered to Saint Joseph Social Service Center in Elizabeth by a dedicated team of drivers. Many thanks to all involved for we cannot do it without you! Contact Lisa for more details on how to volunteer. SANDWICH MAKERS 238 sandwiches were collected. The next collection will be Monday, March 25, 2013 . We need cheese, meat, meat and cheese sandwiches without condiments. Please individually wrap and label the contents with one group per bag and drop them off between 8:00-11:00am at the School Kitchen. Contact Lisa to volunteer. MEAT LOAF MAKERS 16 lbs. of meatloaf was collected. The next collection will be Saturday, March 23, 2013 before the 5:00pm Mass and Sunday, March 24 from 10:00am – 12:00pm in the Gathering Area of the Church. We need 2-3 lb. meat loaves cooked, wrapped and frozen each month. Home pick-ups can be arranged. Contact Lisa for more details on how to volunteer. FOOD COLLECTION The next collection for non-perishable food will be on the weekend of March 23/24, 2013. Please drop off items in the Gathering Area of the Church. YOUTH GROUP NEWS Mrs. Kimberly Mailley Youth Minister HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS JOIN US ON THURSDAY NIGHTS 7:30-9:00pm ~ in the School Gym Students in 9-12th Grade We meet weekly on Thursday nights and follow the Parish School Calendar. GOD’S HOUSE & YOURS Please return all song books to the pew rack, lift all kneelers to the upright position, remove all wrappers and tissues, pick up debris found on the ground and in the bathrooms. RESPECT LIFE CORNER The Third Trimester of Pregnancy by Mrs. Patricia Sullivan At the end of the seventh month of pregnancy, fat begins to be deposited on your baby. Your baby is about 14 inches long and weighs from about 2 – 4 pounds. Your baby's hearing is fully developed and he changes position frequently and responds to stimuli, including sound, pain, and light. By the eight month of pregnancy, baby is about 18 inches long and weighs as much as 5 pounds. Baby will continue to mature and develop body fat reserves. You may notice that your baby is kicking more. Baby's brain is developing rapidly at this time, and he can see and hear. Most internal systems are well developed, but the lungs may still be immature. Towards the end of the third trimester, your baby continues to grow and mature. His lungs are nearly fully developed. Baby’s reflexes are coordinated so he can blink, close the eyes, turn the head and grasp firmly. Your baby's position changes to prepare itself for labor and delivery. The baby drops down into the pelvis, and usually his head is facing down toward the birth canal. By the end of this pregnancy month, your baby is about 18 to 20 inches long and weighs about 7 pounds. PARISH SCHOOL NEWS Mrs. Patricia Dolansky Principal AT SAINT JAMES SCHOOL OUR PLATES ARE FULL…OF BLESSINGS by Mrs. Mary McElroy Much to the delight of the students, plates will literally be full this week when we celebrate the well-loved Italian tradition of the Saint Joseph’s table. Born out of the time honored story of the intercession of Saint Joseph bringing relief to famine ravaged Sicily centuries ago, the Saint Joseph’s table is laden with Italian pastries and other goodies. Tradition holds that the table is piled high with treats supplied by the community as a giving back for the blessing of prosperity. Meant as a gift for the enjoyment of all, especially those in need, it was created in thanksgiving and grateful appreciation for the prayers of Saint Joseph for food and an end to famine. Sponsored by the H.S.A., our Saint Joseph’s table will be set up in the school, and all members of the Saint James School Community, are invited to sample the table immediately after the 9:00 am Mass on Tuesday, March 19 th , Saint Joseph’s Day. Having a Saint Joseph’s table to look forward to will make the wearing of full dress uniform by our students a little more enjoyable, and may be an added incentive for available family members to attend Mass. One of Saint James’ great blessings is its eighth grade students, who have received numerous recognition and scholarship awards to local Catholic high schools.
