VAPOUR DEGREASING<br />
5. Swill <strong>and</strong> clean coils <strong>and</strong> sides <strong>of</strong> plant above water level with brush.<br />
6. After 24 hours boiling time, turn <strong>of</strong>f the power <strong>and</strong> shut the plant down.<br />
7. Pump water out <strong>of</strong> the plant down tank drain. Dry plant out <strong>and</strong> fill with new<br />
solvent.<br />
8. This procedure should be carried out on each unit approximately every<br />
twelve months (This will depend on production cycles).<br />
EVACUATION PROCEDURE<br />
In the event <strong>of</strong> any serious incident from spillage’s or leaks <strong>of</strong> solvent, the area<br />
must be evacuated immediately, ensuring:<br />
1. that the total complement <strong>of</strong> the area affected is aware <strong>of</strong> the evacuation.<br />
Supervisors must ensure that checks are made to stop persons entering the affected<br />
area.<br />
2. that the area to which personnel are evacuated has access to fresh air.<br />
3. that the Director <strong>and</strong> First Aiders are informed as soon as a decision is declared to<br />
evacuate, thereby enabling them to assist where necessary.<br />
4. Senior Person Responsible:<br />
Must telephone the fire brigade <strong>and</strong> ambulance service (if required) <strong>and</strong> take a head<br />
count as soon as employees have assembled in the safe area.<br />
5. Information to be telephoned to the following personnel:<br />
a) Director<br />
b) Engineering Representative<br />
c) Divisional Director<br />
d) Engineering Director<br />
During the checks referred to in (1) above, breathing apparatus MUST be worn.<br />
Only personnel trained in the use <strong>of</strong> breathing apparatus may enter the effected<br />
area.<br />
BASIC FIRST AID PROCEDURES<br />
Treatment <strong>of</strong> those effected by over exposure to solvent<br />
1. Anyone suffering from over exposure should be moved into the fresh air.<br />
2. Get immediate medical attention.<br />
3. Remove any contaminated clothing <strong>and</strong> loosen remaining clothes.<br />
4. Do not walk patient about.<br />
5. Lay patient on his/her side <strong>and</strong> see that his/her air passage (nose <strong>and</strong> mouth) are<br />
clear.<br />
6. Keep the patient warm <strong>and</strong> quiet.<br />
7. Do not give alcoholic drinks.<br />
BULK STORAGE TANKS OF ‘TRIKLONE’:<br />
The <strong>of</strong>f loading procedures <strong>and</strong> the condition <strong>of</strong> the installation are now the sole<br />
responsibility <strong>of</strong> <strong>Carrs</strong> Management.<br />
