CHAPTER 5.<br />

EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY IN THE INTERVIEW PROCESS<br />

5.1 Interviews <strong>and</strong> Interview Boards<br />

The <strong>Defence</strong> <strong>Forces</strong> will conduct interviews on the basis of ability, so that all qualified<br />

c<strong>and</strong>idates have an equitable opportunity to compete. Interviewing will be fair <strong>and</strong> transparent.<br />

5.2 Guidance <strong>and</strong> Briefing for Interviewing<br />

The <strong>Defence</strong> <strong>Forces</strong> will provide interviewers <strong>and</strong> selection boards with detailed guidance in<br />

relation to non-discrimination <strong>and</strong> equal opportunity issues.<br />

5.3 Conducting the Interviews<br />

The <strong>Defence</strong> <strong>Forces</strong> is committed to objectivity in selection systems of rating c<strong>and</strong>idates for<br />

recruitment by experience, skill, qualifications, or job record as appropriate <strong>and</strong> relevant, or other<br />

objective criteria.<br />

5.4 Diversifying Interview Boards<br />

The <strong>Defence</strong> <strong>Forces</strong> will strive to ensure a balance of persons from within the seven (7) grounds,<br />

<strong>and</strong> to achieve a gender balance on the interview board, where appropriate.<br />

5.5 Monitoring the Interview Process<br />

The <strong>Defence</strong> <strong>Forces</strong> will conduct relevant statistical checks, where feasible <strong>and</strong> appropriate, of<br />

c<strong>and</strong>idates at different phases of the interview process, for the success rates of c<strong>and</strong>idates of<br />

different/diverse grounds in a manner that does not interfere with the specific interview process.<br />

5.6 Positive Action on Grounds of Gender <strong>and</strong> <strong>Diversity</strong> in Recruitment<br />

The <strong>Defence</strong> <strong>Forces</strong> is committed to undertaking positive actions on the grounds of gender <strong>and</strong><br />

diversity to promote employment <strong>and</strong> integration in the <strong>Defence</strong> <strong>Forces</strong>.
