The <strong><strong>Equal</strong>ity</strong> Authority is an independent body set up under the Employment <strong><strong>Equal</strong>ity</strong> Act, 1998<br />
<strong>and</strong> established in 1999. Among its functions is the goal to work towards the elimination of<br />
discrimination in employment <strong>and</strong> to promote equality of opportunity in matters to which the<br />
legislation applies.<br />
The Office of Director of <strong><strong>Equal</strong>ity</strong> Investigations was established under the Employment<br />
<strong><strong>Equal</strong>ity</strong> Act, 1998. It provides a legal remedy <strong>and</strong> an enforcement system for persons who<br />
complain of discrimination on any of the nine (9) grounds (seven (7) grounds applicable to the<br />
<strong>Defence</strong> <strong>Forces</strong>) of the Act.
