Regional Workshop Series In 2010, ACHPER QLD took the opportunity to expand our successful regional workshop series to include not only the Toowoomba and Gold Coast areas but also the Sunshine Coast. This was met with enthusiasm from the local teachers on the North Coast with over 30 attending in its inaugural year. Toowoomba workshop was first to receive the benefits of professional development on Friday 26 March , 48 teachers gathered at the Toowoomba SHS Mt Lofty Campus to hear from Department of Education representatives, Department of Communities, Sport and Recreation Services, the ARL, Kids Sports, Acceleration and Skills Alliance. In addition, Toowoomba received the benefit of over 10 local sporting organisations gathering with a trade show during the lunch break, and a Jump Rope for Heart Presentation. The workshop was, as always, well received with participants rating the organisation and content as excellent in evaluations. The final workshop was delivered at Burnside State High School in Nambour on the Sunshine Coast Workshop on Thursday, 3 June 2010. Thirty two teachers attended the workshop from 22 different schools. This was pleasing in view of this being an inaugural event in this area. The program was again a similar coverage of topics relevant to the HPE as received at Toowoomba and Gold Coast. Many thanks must go to Jocelyn Balmer who coordinated the delivery of all three regional workshops with excellent feedback from all attendees and presenters. Recognition and thanks must also go to HART Sport, Skills Alliance, Teachers Union Health, Acceleration, Darling Downs School Sport and the Gold Coast Physical Activity Alliance for the support provided to the workshops. The Gold Coast workshop was delivered on Friday 28 May and was well attended with 57 teachers present. A similar program to Toowoomba was available with the addition of QPEC and some local school teachers presenting. Support from the Gold Coast Physical Activity Alliance and South Coast School Sport in the delivery of the workshop was well appreciated. 20
Finance Director’s For the year ending 31 December 2010 Report PROFIT The net result for the year ending 31 December 2010 year is a loss of $8,555 (2009 profit: $41,832). The 2009 profit can in part be attributed to the 2009 International conference and the associated profit share that ACHPER QLD was entitled to. This is not an annual event and therefore should be noted when comparing to 2010. The loss for the year was largely anticipated in our 2010 budget as we entered a year for the first time knowing that we could not expect certain income streams and government support that we had received in the past. Our ambitious projections fell short in event registrations and event sponsorship; however this was almost recovered by cost savings in our budgeted event expenses. The committee was not disappointed to emerge at the end of the year with this comparatively small loss. As we enter 2011 we are again working from a break even budget, however our experience from 2010 has enabled us to put together a more realistic budget that should see ACHPER QLD finish 2011 at a break even or small profit. INVESTMENTS In 2010 the ACHPER QLD management committee initiated a website upgrade which will add significant communication benefits and increased interaction with our members. The total committed investment will be $7250 As at the end of 2010 we had spent $1,170 of the total. Prior years surplus has also been invested into a higher interest savings account resulting in interest revenue of $1,960 in 2010 (2009: $110) INTERNAL CONTROL The ACHPER QLD team has implemented a number of controls around spending and accounting in the past 18 months to ensure that the organisation’s funds are properly accounted for.
