The Plant Services unit takes charge of the
operation and maintenance of thermal power
plants around the world. Continuously
optimized operations management concepts
ensure high availability rates and low cost.
The necessary operating and maintenance
personnel are trained both locally and in our
own training facilities for coal and gas-fired
power plants, and soon also for solar thermal
power plants. The unit provides specialist-personnel
leasing and procurement services.
The services in this area are supplemented
by the unit’s own accredited testing laboratory
and inspection body.
Energy management systems, operation
management systems, communication
technology, site IT
The System Technologies unit develops
intelligent software designed to optimize
the costs and technical processes involved
in plant operation.
Operation management systems support
optimized operating workflows in power
plants. Specially developed sensors and
programs are used for early diagnosis of
damage; critical components are centrally
monitored, and deviations from normal
operation are reported to the power plant
staff. Energy management systems serve
to monitor, control and optimize the plant.
In addition, the unit offers optimized solutions
for communication, network, security
and fire alarm systems.
With our R&D activities we pursue
the objective of ensuring reliable,
economical and environmentally
compatible energy supply. In this
connection, together with other partners
as well as universities and major
research centers we are very active in
the R&D program of the German Federal
Ministry of Economics and
Technology for CO 2
reduction technology
(COORETEC).
Evonik‘s aim there is especially to advance
efficiency-enhancing measures
in order to make an effective contribution
to CO 2
reduction.
Apart from conventional power plant
technology, Evonik Steag is also involved
in the fields of thermal biomass
and biogas utilization, geothermics
and compressed-air energy
storage.
Other R&D activities focus on the
optimization of power plant operation
with regard to the efficiency of
everyday operation and the dynamics
and anticipative identification of disturbances.
