ROOF WINDOW CONSTRUCTION 

Fakro roof windows are high quality products manufactured from the 

finest raw materials, using the most modern technology to ensure 

durability, security, functionality and excellent thermal insulation. 

Durability is achieved by the use of specially chosen highest 

quality pine, which is bonded in layers, vacuum impregnated 

and double coated. The wood is protected on the outer face 

with polyester coated aluminium, which is highly weather 

and UV resistant. 

The use of thermally insulated gas-filled double glazed 

windows, with a U-value of 1.1 W/m²K, is instrumental 

in maintaining warmth in the loft. Such excellent 

performance is achieved by an application of a layer 

of heat-reflecting silver foil on the inside face of 

the glazing. This reduces heat loss during winter 

months and helps prevent overheating during 

summer. 

Toughened glass provides security, and is 

also resistant to extremes of weather such 

as hail. It is also covered by a lifetime guarantee 

against hailstone damage. 

The woodwork in modern buildings 

tends to be tight fitting. This limits 

natural ventilation and can cause 

condensation. To counteract this, 

Fakro windows have their own 

air inlet to provide a constant 

regulated supply of fresh air 

even when the window is 

closed. The air inlet channel 

is extremely efficient 

and acoustically effective. 

It is located inside 

the window frame 

and so does not 

reduce the glazed 

surface area of 

the window.

Air Inlet Construction 

Attic and loft spaces should always be ventilated 

effectively, to meet specific ventilation standards. 

Fakro roof windows are installed with special air 

inlets, which provide a free flow of fresh air to the 

room even when windows are closed. Stale air 

should be removed by means of existing ventilation, 

generally found in bathrooms, kitchens, or 

through ventilation shafts and ducting. 

Air inlet V-35 

Air inlet V-10 

Positioned on the top part 

of the window frame, the 

V-10 has a manually adjustable 

air flow regulator. When 

fully opened this inlet supplies 

fresh air at 10m³/h at a 

pressure difference of 10Pa. 

The inlet’s construction provides 

excellent filtering and 

acoustic insulation. Air inlet 

V-10 should be used solely 

in rooms where unassisted 

gravitational ventilation 

works well.

Air Inlet V-35 

Positioned at the top part of 

the window frame, features 

a manual air flow regulator. 

When fully opened this 

inlet supplies fresh air at 

21 to 38m³/h at a pressure 

difference of 10Pa, depending 

upon the width of the 

window. 

As a result of this greater efficiency, 

air humidity inside the 

room is effectively reduced, 

thereby reducing condensation. 

The V-35 air inlet can 

in part discharge air, when 

normal gravitational ventilation 

isn’t working properly. Its 

excellent venting efficiency 

guarantees that a greater 

amount of stale and humid 

air is removed from the room. 

Hygroscopically 

Controlled Air Inlet 

Positioned in the top part of 

the window frame, this provides 

automatic regulation 

of airflow, depending upon 

the level of humidity inside 

the room. Supplies fresh air 

at 30m³/h at a pressure difference 

of 10Pa. A hygroscopic 

polyamide tape acts as a sensor, 

increasing or reducing in 

size according to humidity 

levels, thereby applying pressure 

to a piston within the 

unit. The inlet monitors room 

humidity continuously and 

automatically and even when 

left open, does not expose 

the room to unnecessary loss 

of warmth. The hygroscopically 

controlled air inlet is 

used with the V-35. 

Manometer Air Inlet 

Positioned in the top part of 

the window frame, the inlet 

is controlled by variations in 

air pressure. The inlet is fully 

automatic, so that even during 

extreme weather conditions, 

a suitable fresh airflow 

is maintained, at a rate of 

30m³/h. Airflow is regulated 

by a polythene tape inside 

the air inlet which changes its 

position with variations in air 

pressure. The manometer air 

inlet is used with the V-35.

Pivot windows are the most popular type of roof window. Because 

of their ease of use and suitability for diverse projects, 

many have been sold throughout the world. 

Pivot windows are ideal for installation in lofts where there is 

living, kitchen or bathroom accommodation. Different types 

are available with differing technical specifications and accessories, 

depending on the type of space they serve. There are

of wood finish used. In areas where there is high humidity,

Windows FTS, FTS-V, FTP-V 

FT centre pivot windows are the most 

popular type of Fakro roof window sold. 

The well-designed centre pivot allows the 

sash to be opened in a range of positions, 

thus increasing the amount of fresh air 

which can be drawn into the room. The 

sash can also be rotated through 180° and 

locked, allowing easy and safe cleaning 

of the outer pane to be carried out. Such 

pivot windows are operated using a twopart 

hinge. 

As the air inlet is positioned at the top 

of the frame, Fakro windows have a 6% 

greater surface area when compared with 

similar window sizes from other manufacturers. 

This therefore increases the availability 

of light into the room. 

There are three standard types of window 

in natural colours: FTS, FTS-V, FTP-V. 

Non-standard window specifications, such 

as windows with automatic air-vents, are 

available to order: FTP-V/H, FTP-V/P. 

Also available in conservation style.

Window FTP-W 

Window FTP-W is a pivot window offering 

additional moisture resistance, coated 

with a white, easy to clean polyurethane 

varnish. The four coats of varnish and additional 

corner guards protect the wooden 

elements of the window. 

FTP-W windows have a broad range of 

applications, in particular in rooms where 

there is high humidity, e.g. kitchens and 

bathrooms. FTP-W windows are also installed 

in buildings where white, easy to 

maintain windows are specified e.g. hotels 

and hospitals.

TOP HUNG AND PIVOT WINDOWS 

Window FPP preSelect® 

Top hung and pivot windows FPP can be 

opened in two distinct ways: outwards 

from the top, and via a centre pivot. 

The outward opening function enables 

the sash to be opened in any position 

from 0° to 35°, whilst the pivot function 

allows the sash to be rotated through 

180°. The newly patented fitting system 

guarantees complete sash stability, both 

in top hung and pivot positions. To add 

to the window’s visual appearance, the 

external profile covering the window is 

pressed which improves the attractiveness 

of the window. 


Features: 

— Manufactured with pinewood, vacuum impregnated and 

finished with three coats of acrylic lacquer. 

— Operated by handle positioned on the lower part of the 

sash. Opening method can be switched using the preSelect

Window FKP 

Top hung and pivot windows FKP, can be

Window FE 

The emergency escape FE top hung and 

pivot window gives you access to the roof. 

It can be opened in two ways. The outward 

opening function enables opening to 40° 

and 68°, while the pivot function allows 

the sash to be rotated through 180°, for 

cleaning the outer side of the glass. The 

large window size and the facility to open 

the sash up to 68° allows for access to the 

roof for maintenance or for use as an emergency 

escape.

WINDOWS FOR COMBINATIONS 

Windows FTL/D, FTL/D-W 

We also sell windows designed for installation 

in vertical combinations. These 

windows are equipped with a locking 

mechanism to prevent accidental opening 

by children. All types are glazed externally 

with toughened glass, for increased 

safety and security. 

This type of window is typically installed 

beneath a standard roof window. Windows 

can be linked together with the use 

of the vertical jointing module KD. This 

significantly increases the amount of light 

entering a room, and increases the field 

of view.

L-Shaped Combination Window FLL 

The FL L-Shaped Combination Window is 

installed where the roof meets a vertical 

wall. This window serves to extend the 

roof window into the wall. L-shaped combination 

windows come with a lock to prevent 

accidental opening by children. 

The L-shaped combination window can 

be combined with a roof window of any 

type. In order to join the windows on the 

outside, use flashing EU. On the inside, 

windows can be joined through the 

use of a masking slat made of pine. The 

masking slat comes together with the L- 

shaped combination window kit. Using 

the L-shaped window increases light in the 

room, and increases the field of view.

Top windows FDL, FBL 

Top windows are windows which are 

triangular FDL, or arched FBL. They can 

be installed on the join above any roof 

window. Top windows are non-opening.

Conservation Window 

The Fakro conservation window is designed for old, historic 

and stylised buildings. Its characteristic feature is the sash 

bar down the middle of the window, and black (similar to 

RAL 9005) metal covering on the window and flashing, which 

matches traditional buildings. Use the Fakro sash bar window, 

to retain the unique historic character of the building 

from the outside, whilst creating a comfortable and modern 

interior. Conservation windows have all the advantages of 

Fakro roof windows. The conservation window is available 

in a range of versions, centre pivot, top hung and pivot, and 

emergency escape.

Non-Standard Shapes 

Fakro windows can be manufactured in any shape required. 

The glazing combination consists of a toughened glass outer 

pane, and a low emission coating on the inner pane, 4H–16–4HT. 

These types of window are all non-openable. 

When ordering non-standard windows, please indicate the 

roof pitch and type of roof covering. A drawing of the window 

will be needed, with all dimensions and internal angles. Any 

order should also indicate whether the window is to be installed 

on its own or in combination with other windows.

Self-Cleaning Glass 

Self-cleaning glass prevents the build-up of dirt on the window. 

It has an active coating on the outer surface, which works 

in two ways. Firstly, it absorbs ultra- violet light from the sun, 

causing a reaction on the surface of the glass which breaks 

down and loosens dirt. Secondly, the glass surface has a coating 

which, when rain or water flows across the window, causes 

it to do so evenly across the surface instead of forming water 

droplets, thereby taking dirt with it. In comparison with ordinary 

glass, the water dries quickly without staining. Self-cleaning 

glass is double glazed, with the inside glazing having a low 

emission coating.

UV 

Laminated Glass P1 Class - LUX 

This type of glazing is made up of two sheets of glass, each 3 

mm thick, and between each layer is a 0.38 mm layer of PVB 

plastic membrane. Laminated glass is positioned on the inside 

of the double glazing, and has a low emission coating. The 

outside pane is made of toughened glass. If broken, laminated 

glass remains stuck to the plastic membrane. Laminated glass 

also reduces penetration of UV rays by up to 95%. 

Energy Efficient Glazing 

This is triple-glazing which includes a 4 mm thick toughened 

outer pane, and two 4 mm toughened panes with low emission 

coating on the inner faces of the glass. The 10 mm space 

between panes is filled with inert gas. This method of glazing 

construction ensures exceptional energy efficiency U Value 

0.5Wm²K, almost completely preventing heat loss through the 

roof window. 

Sound Proof Glazing 

Significantly reduces penetration of noise. Constructed from 

toughened glass on the outside, and specially laminated glass 

inside. The laminated glass has a layer of soft sound proofing 

epoxy resin and a low emission coating. The glazing cavity is 

filled with gas, which additionally reduces noise penetration. 

Sound-proof glazing is made to an exceptionally high specification 

Rw = 40dB. Sound-proof windows have two seals but 

do not include an air vent. 

UV 

Security Glazing, Class P4, 99% UV Protection 

Security glazing offers increased resistance against breakage. 

Security glass is positioned on the inside, and is constructed 

of two sheets of 4 mm glass with a layer of 1.52 mm PVB in between. 

Security glazing includes a low emission coating. The 

outer pane is made of toughened glass. 

Use of security glazing: 

— Significantly reduces the possibility of break-ins through 

the roof window. 

— In cases of damage or shattering, pieces of glass will stick 

to the membrane, reducing risk of injury. 

— Reduces harmful effects of UV radiation by 99%. 

— Has excellent acoustic properties.
