National Institute <strong>of</strong> Creative <strong>Arts</strong><br />
and Industries (NICAI)<br />
<strong>Welcome</strong> to all new students and welcome back<br />
to returning students.<br />
We highly recommend students participate in<br />
<strong>Orientation</strong> activities and NICAI students are<br />
expected to attend their School <strong>Orientation</strong><br />
<strong>Programme</strong> as listed below.<br />
During <strong>Orientation</strong> NICAI will be holding School<br />
and programme-specific essential information<br />
sessions as well as social activities. In addition,<br />
NICAI students may wish to attend the <strong>University</strong><br />
<strong>Orientation</strong>.<br />
Tuesday 26 February<br />
9-10.15am<br />
10.30am-2pm<br />
Pōwhiri and welcome by the Vice-Chancellor.<br />
Meet your UniGuides, faculty welcome, campus<br />
tour and learning support lectures.<br />
Details for these events are on page 4 and 5.<br />
Wednesday 27 February<br />
NICAI International Students<br />
1.30pm-3pm NICAI Courtyard, Level 2, 26 Symonds Street.<br />
Meet and greet lunch and informal welcome to<br />
the faculty, where you can meet your NICAI<br />
buddy and the NICAI International Advisers.<br />
Thursday 28 February and Friday 1 March<br />
Architecture and Planning Students<br />
Design <strong>The</strong>atre, Conference Centre , 22 Symonds Street<br />
9.30am-4pm (including NICAI BBQ).<br />
A two-day event that will include a welcome by the Head <strong>of</strong> School,<br />
Elizabeth Aitken-Rose, information sessions to find out more about your<br />
courses and additional course enrolment advice, plus a tour <strong>of</strong> the<br />
School, Architecture and Planning Library and other facilities.<br />
Friday 1 March<br />
Fine <strong>Arts</strong> Students<br />
Lecture <strong>The</strong>atre, Ground Floor, Building 432, Elam School <strong>of</strong> Fine<br />
<strong>Arts</strong>. 9.30am-4pm (including NICAI BBQ).<br />
A one day event including a welcome by the Head <strong>of</strong> School, Associate<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Derrick Cherrie, and an introduction to Elam staff. Visit our<br />
projectspace gallery, tour the School, Fine <strong>Arts</strong> Library and other Elam<br />
facilities.<br />
Music Students<br />
Music <strong>The</strong>atre, School <strong>of</strong> Music, 6 Symonds Street.<br />
10am-4pm (including NICAI BBQ).<br />
A one-day event including a welcome by the Head <strong>of</strong> School, Dr Allan<br />
Badley, introduction to key Music staff, additional course enrolment<br />
advice plus a tour <strong>of</strong> the School, Music and Dance Library and other<br />
facilities.<br />
All NICAI Students – <strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>Orientation</strong> <strong>Welcome</strong> and<br />
Social Event (NICAI BBQ)<br />
12.15pm - Meet at the Engineering Lecture <strong>The</strong>atre 439, 22<br />
Symonds Street.<br />
<strong>Welcome</strong> by Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Nuala Gregory, Acting Dean, followed<br />
by the NICAI Amazing Race and BBQ in the nearby NICAI courtyard.<br />
Come along and meet staff, listen to music, enjoy good food, mix and<br />
mingle and make new friends.<br />

A two-day event including a welcome by the Acting Head <strong>of</strong> Dance<br />
Studies, Dr Nicholas Rowe, information sessions to find out more about<br />
your courses, a dance class, seminars on managing your studies and<br />
writing skills, plus a tour <strong>of</strong> the Music and Dance Library and other<br />
Dance Studies facilities.<br />
