Physical Modelling:<br />

• Physical modelling was carried at the University of Dundee using primarily the<br />

geotechnical centrifuge to investigate earthquake fault rupture propagation<br />

through drained soil and its interaction with overlying shallow foundations.<br />

• The main advantage of using a geotechnical centrifuge is its ability to replicate<br />

the stresses inside the small scale soil model as experienced in its full scale<br />

prototype, and thereby creating the same soil constitutive behaviour in both the<br />

model and the prototype
