Geotechnical Parameters for Seismic Hazard Microzonation

Physical Modelling:
• Physical modelling was carried at the University of Dundee using primarily the
geotechnical centrifuge to investigate earthquake fault rupture propagation
through drained soil and its interaction with overlying shallow foundations.
• The main advantage of using a geotechnical centrifuge is its ability to replicate
the stresses inside the small scale soil model as experienced in its full scale
prototype, and thereby creating the same soil constitutive behaviour in both the
model and the prototype
