Full Conference Schedule RE6121 • Healthy Aging and Art Therapy Location: Virginia B, Lobby Level Sunhee Kim, Ph.D., ATR-BC, LCAT, This paper will present the outcome study of the effects of art therapy on healthy aging in older adults. This quantitative research method study tries to examine the effect of art therapy using three standardized psychological instruments to measure the dependent variables of affect, anxiety, and self-esteem. SC6069 • A Community Public Art Project: A Pedestrian Underpass in Chicago Location: Washington 3, Exhibition Level Sarah Laing, M.A.A.T., ATR This presentation will share the planning process, fabrication, and installation of a community mural project. Individuals will learn about how the public art process works and how it can be used to create community. It highlights collaboration between professional artists, community leaders, and organizations. PS6083 • Community Building through Art Therapy in Acute Inpatient Psychiatry Location: Washington 5, Exhibition Level Kelley Linhardt, M.A., ATR-BC, LCAT; Rafael Cohen, M.A., ATR-BC, LCAT; Sarah Mlynarczyk, M.A., ATR-BC Best practices developed by three art therapists for creating community through group art therapy interventions on acute psychiatric units will be presented. Mural work, group sculpture, and other projects were employed to combat burn-out, alienation, and isolation on the part of the therapists as well as their colleagues and patients. CA6077 • A Unique Environment: Art Therapy Implemented at a Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center Location: Virginia A, Lobby Level Julie Ludwick, M.A.A.T., ATR, LPC This presentation highlights an art therapy program implemented at a therapeutic horseback riding center. This unique environment broadens the scope of practice available for art therapists to practice within. The development of the art therapy program and the success of implementation will be highlighted. 2:30-3:00 p.m. Film Festival: Member Films and Award Ceremony Location: Madison A, Mezzanine Level Amanda Alders, M.S., ATR This segment will highlight shorter films aimed at this year’s theme. Additionally, one special film, selected by a panel of jurors, will be awarded for its impact, creativity, and demonstration of technical skill. 3:00-5:00 p.m. Annual Business Meeting Location: Marriott Ballroom Salon 3, Lobby Level Participate in the life of the organization by attending the Association’s business meeting. Hear committee reports as together we craft our future. All conference participants are invited to attend. A reserved seating area is provided for all Association voting members. 8:00-10:30 p.m. Closing Event (Not part of all registration packages.) Location: Thurgood Marshall Ballroom, Mezzanine Level The Local Arrangements Committee (LAC) has fun and interactive activities planned for this event from watching YouTube-style videos taken during the conference, to filling a time capsule that envisions what art therapy will be like in the year 2016! Be sure to dress in styles of the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and today to help to make the evening fun and festive. Desserts and a cash bar will be provided. Sunday, July 10 8:00-11:00 a.m. Half-day Advanced Practice Courses (Separate registration required.) PP1052 • Art Making and the Inner Critic Location: Washington 2, Exhibition Level Mary Andrus, M.A., ATR, LCPC In this half-day course, participants will examine the history of art in art therapy, identify the importance of making art in one’s work as an art therapist, and explore personal blocks by making art about one’s critic. Participants will be provided with resources and exercises for exploration. SC1192 • Clay Therapy: Transforming Aggressive Energy Revealing Unresolved Anger Location: Washington 5, Exhibition Level Valerie Bostory, M.A., ATR-BC, RPT/S, and Susan Fisher, Psy.D., ATR-BC Embrace the power of clay as an expressive medium and therapeutic tool. Full Conference Schedule SC1153 • Therapeutic Art Journals Location: Washington 1, Exhibition Level Michelle Dean, M.A., ATR-BC, LPC, CGP Book arts offer excellent possibilities for storytelling, organizing, sequencing, and providing containment in a therapeutic context. Two types of folded book construction will be part of the experiential due to their relative ease of facilitation, usefulness in promoting, and revealing psychological processes in a range of populations. ES1042 • Healing Mind and Body: The Integration of Art Therapy and Yoga Therapy Location: Washington 4, Exhibition Level Ellen Horovitz, Ph.D., LCAT, ATR-BC, RYT In this experiential workshop, the physiological aspects and basic postures of yoga will be combined with art therapy. As well, yoga and art therapy case studies will be demonstrated through PowerPoint and video presentation. PP1099 • Word play/Image Foundation: Augmenting the Verbal and Non-verbal Interchange in Art Therapy Location: Washington 6, Exhibition Level Laura Loumeau-May, M.P.S., ATR-BC, LPC This course examines the amplification generated by words combined with imagery to communicate, evoke, make meaning, and narrate. Brain research regarding verbal and nonverbal processing and hemispheric integration will be discussed. Creative activities that engage visual and verbal will help evaluate therapeutic techniques. CA1154 • Empowering the Family Journey Through Art Therapy Location: Washington 3, Exhibition Level Deborah Schroder, M.S., ATR-BC, LPAT This session will explore the use of the art-based genogram as a method for deepening one’s own understanding of family art therapy work.
