Australia’s Jake Younnan-Wise played a one under 72 to take out the Asia Pacific Mission Hills
Open Tournament with a total of 281. Yuki of Japan was second on 284 and Huang of Taiwan
was third losing on a count back from Yuki.
The closing event was a display of some of the best golf ever witnessed from the region and a
strong comeback from Neelkash on a 75 pulled Fiji back to 14 th position from a possible 30 th
position. Anuresh recovered some lost pride when he was able to go under 80 with a score of 78
on day four in his first ever national tournament.
Neelkash displayed true grit in turning on the first nine holes with one under 35 and was in chase
for a better position for Fiji. Targeting to get Fiji into the 10 th position he faltered at the 16 th with
a double bogey attempting a massive drive down the field. He followed up with another two
bogies and got Fiji its 14 th position.
The tour was great for Fiji in that we had the best results ever for a touring national golf team.
We now had back home with a clear picture of what to expect in the international competition for
2008. Fiji also stands to win the hosting rights for the APGC Junior competition to be announced
in January next year and to be played in 2009.
Neelkash also is in line with being called up to represent the Asia Pacific in the Bonallack Trophy
challenge in Spain against the best of Europe.
