Bridge Construction<br />
The Texas Department of Transportation<br />
is building a <strong>new</strong>, much higher bridge<br />
over Bull Creek. Due to right of way<br />
limitations, eastbound RM 2222 has been<br />
reduced to a single through-lane from<br />
west of Loop 360 to the County Line<br />
Restaurant. Due to spatial constraints<br />
and construction activities, TxDOT is<br />
encouraging bicyclists to select alternative<br />
routes until the bridge can be completed.<br />
The existing highway bridge on RM<br />
2222, built in 1940 and widened in 1964,<br />
floods every two years on average and<br />
is considered "functionally obsolete,"<br />
TxDOT officials have said. The <strong>new</strong><br />
five-lane bridge will be 19 feet higher as<br />
it crosses the creek than the existing fourlane<br />
bridge, and will be out of the 100-<br />
year flood plain.<br />
The $5.8 million project should be completed<br />
by late 2011. Upon completion,<br />
RM 2222 will be expanded to 5 lanes<br />
with shoulders and sidewalks at this location.<br />
TxDOT regrets the inconveniences<br />
