The hospital won the prestigious<br />
Asian Hospital Management<br />
Excellence Award <strong>2011</strong>, in the<br />
Patient Safety category for<br />
‘Reducing Surgical Site Infections<br />
in Cardiac Surgery Patients’.<br />
The hospital was selected out<br />
of 315 entries and 84 hospitals,<br />
in 11 countries worldwide,<br />
vying for the Awards. The jury<br />
comprised representatives from<br />
the Joint Commission International<br />
(JCI), Johns Hopkins Medicine<br />
International and the International<br />
Hospital Federation.<br />
Doctors at the <strong>Fortis</strong> Escorts<br />
Heart Institute performed India’s<br />
first successful Percutaneous<br />
Transcatheter Aortic Valve<br />
Replacement (TAVI). TAVI is an<br />
alternative to open heart surgery<br />
and is considered a better alternate<br />
<strong>Fortis</strong> Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi<br />
since it is a minimally invasive<br />
procedure.<br />
<strong>Fortis</strong> launched Asia’s first<br />
electronic Intensive Care Unit<br />
(eICU) facility – CritiNext, at the<br />
<strong>Fortis</strong> Escorts Heart Institute.<br />
The eICU services being offered<br />
by CritiNext make speciality<br />
critical care accessible and<br />
affordable to critically ill patients,<br />
in small towns of India. It enables<br />
a remote hospital to provide<br />
advanced consultation, care and<br />
monitoring to their critically ill<br />
in-patients without having to<br />
physically transfer them to superspeciality<br />
hospitals. CritiNext is<br />
India’s as well as Asia’s first eICU<br />
and is operational in two hospitals<br />
based in Raipur and Dehradun.<br />
The hospital launched India’s<br />
first <strong>Fortis</strong> Acute Stroke Treatment<br />
(FAST) programme. The standard<br />
practices at <strong>Fortis</strong> Escorts Heart<br />
Institute ensure that the patient<br />
is treated within pre-set timelines<br />
as timely intervention is the key<br />

During the year, the hospital<br />
organised ‘Cardiomersion - An<br />
Integrated Approach to Delivery<br />
of Comprehensive Cardiac<br />
Care’. It was the <strong>Fortis</strong> Global<br />
Cardiothoracic and Vascular<br />
Surgery (CTVS) Conference, the<br />
first global conference on Cardiac<br />
Sciences.<br />
The hospital also organised the<br />
<strong>Fortis</strong> International Liver Summit.<br />
The conference provided a unique<br />
forum to clinicians, scientists and<br />
researchers to discuss key issues<br />
on the theme “Saving Lives from<br />
Liver Disease, Globally” and to<br />
explore new solutions for related<br />
topics based on regional, national<br />
and international experiences.<br />
Several first time procedures<br />
were performed at the hospital<br />
which included Transjugular<br />
Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt<br />
(TIPS); first Bariatric surgery and<br />
first ever Elbow Joint Replacement.<br />
FORTIS HOSPITAL, NOIDA<br />
The hospital won the first<br />
runners-up award for Operational<br />
Excellence, at the Federation of<br />
Indian Chambers of Commerce<br />
and Industry (FICCI) <strong>Healthcare</strong><br />
Awards. It also received the<br />
second prize for National Energy<br />
Conservation amongst hospitals.<br />
The prize was instituted by the<br />
Government of India.<br />
<strong>Fortis</strong> Hospital, Noida is the<br />
first private hospital in the state of<br />
Uttar Pradesh to run a successful<br />
liver transplant programme. 14<br />
transplant surgeries have been<br />
conducted so far at the hospital,<br />
since the programme was launched<br />
in December 2010.
