Japanese Garden Beach, Tala Bay, Aqaba MÖVENPICK TALA BAY, AQABA Around 15 minutes by car from the centre of Aqaba, the Mövenpick Tala Bay offers good value and benefits from a great location on the beach. The hotel is less busy than those in the centre of the town, and offers better value. The rooms and public areas feel bright, modern and airy. With a number of pools, a decent beach and a wide range of restaurants and cafés to choose from, the Mövenpick is perfect for those wishing to relax after sightseeing or to explore Jordan’s Red Sea reefs. As Jordan’s only port and the only resort area on the coast, it is very popular and can be very busy throughout the year. The hotels often host weddings, which give an insight into local traditions but can also be quite noisy affairs. If you wish to dive then this is the place to come, with the Tala Bay resort area offering a slightly quieter option to the central hotels. 40 Common lionfish, the Red Sea Kempinski Hotel, Aqaba KEMPINSKI AQABA Close to the centre of Aqaba, the Kempinski also has an attractive location on the beach. All rooms face the sea and have an elegant minimalist style. The Kempinski has a pool, access to a beach and a range of dining options, including a good seafood restaurant. It is an excellent choice for those wanting to relax by the sea after a busy trip in Jordan, but still be within reach of the town of Aqaba.

The sea is also eerily beautiful, with crystalline formations on the shoreline surrounded by harsh, unforgiving cliffs. The lowest point on earth at 420 metres below sea level, temperatures and the humidity are always higher at the Dead Sea than elsewhere in Jordan. Swimming, or rather floating in the Dead Sea is a novel experience, with its sense of weightlessness. Up in the hills above the coast you will find the Dead Sea Panorama Complex, a museum administered by the RSCN, which has excellent information on the history and ecology of the Dead Sea, as well as the impact of human activity here. Nearby there are also lots of natural springs, such as Ma’in, offering further opportunities for relaxation and alternative therapies. THE MÖVENPICK RESORT & SPA, THE DEAD SEA Located on the shores of the Dead Sea, the resort is styled as a Middle-Eastern village, running down a green valley to a swimming pool and therapy centre. The 346 rooms are luxuriously furnished, and many look out over the small stream that runs through the resort. A sandy beach forms one side of the large, infinity swimming pool, and the view stretches uninterrupted across the glassy surface of the Dead Sea. The spa offers massages, mud wraps and a host of other relaxing treatments. KEMPINSKI ISHTAR DEAD SEA The latest addition to the hotels of the Dead Sea, the Kempinski Ishtar brings breathtaking design and modern luxury. Rooms are spacious, especially those located in the Ishtar villas, and are replete with facilities. The array of carefullydesigned pools are a delight as you can always find a deserted spot. The beach has been built up with fine sand from the Red Sea and the spa is one of the largest to be found in the region. There are also a number of top quality restaurants offering a range of different cuisines. EVASON MA’IN HOT SPRINGS, NEAR THE DEAD SEA The Evason Ma’in Hot Springs is located in the hills above the Dead Sea. With 96 rooms and a quiet setting, this hotel is one of the most luxurious places to stay in Jordan. The respected Evason standards of service make any stay here extremely relaxing, especially for guests who make their way down to the Six Senses spa. The grounds of the hotel have been landscaped with several pools and garden areas. The staff here are very friendly and this is a good alternative to the larger Dead Sea hotels. Bethany Beyond the Jordan Now a place of pilgrimage for many Christians visiting Jordan, Bethany is the site of significant archaeological remains, which were only properly excavated in the 1990s. The findings, including a series of churches, caves, wells and water channels, along with baptism pools, led historians to declare the area the site of Jesus’ baptism and St John the Baptist’s mission. Bethany is one of the lowest points on earth, with an incredible biodiversity, offering the opportunity to see a historical site in a fascinating natural setting.
