use less fossil energy and to use the energy pro -
duced in a more efficient way. It is the only way
to decrease the emissions of green house gases.
Skanska, as a major development and construction
company, has a responsibility to do all it

make an immense difference. McKinsey’s global
cost curve for greenhouse gas measures shows
us that much of what we provide has a negative
abatement cost – savings, in reality (Report, Pathways
to a low-carbon economy, McKinsey & Co,
2009). Improving building insulation, lighting
systems, air conditioning and water heating are
the foremost cost-effec tive measures, and these
are at the core of our business.
