PROJECTHIGHLIGHTS EUROPEANDCENTRALASIA Tajikistan – Programmac Development Policy Grant 6 (P117692, P126042) TheProgrammacDevelopmentPolicyGrant6 (PDPG6) builds on a series of Programmac DevelopmentPolicyGrantsthatwereiniated in2006. ThefocusofPDPG13wastosupportastrate gic set of policy reforms in private sector de velopment,publicsectormanagementandso cial service delivery. The two main objecves of the PDPG46 are to: (a) migate the nega veimpactofthecrisisonpovertyandvulner ability in Tajikistan, and (b) pave the way for postcrisisrecoveryandsustainedgrowth.The PDPG 46 series seeks to (i) protect social spending and increase its eciency, (ii) im prove the climate for private sector develop ment and (iii) strengthen government eec veness.ThroughPDPG4support,thegovern mentapprovedthenaonalaviaonpolicyin 2010,whichallowsprogressivelyincreasedac cesstointernaonalairlinesintermsofroutes andfrequency;removesanyrestriconsonair cargointermsofaircratypes,size,frequen cy, upli or discharge (as long as technically feasible); ensures equal treatment at the air portsforallcarriersintermsofpricing,fueling, and other services; and improves air safety through adequate funding and strengthened licensing cerficaon, monitoring compliance andinspecon. TheBankhasconnuedtomonitorimplemen taon of the new aviaon policy and assess the extent to which PDPGsupported reforms have helped expand access to cheaper, safer, and more frequent aviaon services.
