2009 Race Committee Teams are forming—join us!
As our lakes begin to remove their hard water covers,
it is time to complete the planning for our 2010 sailing
season. Jim Smith has posted the race committee
teams on the ILYA web site:

As you will see, there are still many blanks on
many of the teams. If you are interested in helping,
I encourage you to contact the assigned PRO for that
particular regatta. For the assigned PROs, I encourage
you to complete your teams and do your best to bring in
new race officers. Our job is to have experienced race
officers while blending fresh blood into the organization,
planning for the future. We have a lot of great
regatta venues this year. Let’s make it a great year.

Wisconsin will be hosting the Collegiate Nationals.
This is an extremely prestigious regatta that will be
bringing the very top collegiate sailors into our own
back yard. I have the privilege of being the PRO for
the Co-ed and Women’s
section. John Porter
will be the PRO for
the team section.
The format of
this regatta has
a bunch of very
short races, so it
should be a lot
of fun to watch.
Before you get to
Madison, check out the starting sequence in Appendix
S in the RRS. No flags—just sounds, and a lot of
them.
Good race committee works starts on our home
lakes. We are in the process of developing some video
training programs and we will post them on the new
ILYA SailGroove site. They probably will not get
done in time for your pre-season training sessions, but
hopefully they will be ready in the near future.
I hope every club has a RC training session each
and every year at your home club. My club has a session
every Memorial Day weekend for 90 minutes or
so. We talk about anything that is new for the season
and do a good refresher so that our
teams are ready to go for the first race.

some help with one of these seminars,
please contact me and I will do my
best to get you a qualified race officer
to help.
