Grace Clinic Medical Director: Dr. Doug Kutz 315 Total Patients Every week I am grateful for the opportunity to work with homeless men who would otherwise be unable to access medical services. Through my interactions with the men at the shelter I know they appreciate our compassion and dedication. Recently one man approached me, and, although he was in good health, said it lifts his heart to know that caring clinicians are available in case his health falters. Encounters like this remind me of the importance of health, interpersonal connections, and service, especially in underserved communities. Micah Katz, Grace Clinic Co-Coordinator UWSMPH Class of 2014 Grace was the first MEDiC Clinic to be founded, in 1991, under the guidance of Dr. Ted Goodfriend. Grace operates out of three classrooms in the Porchlight, Inc.’s Men’s Drop-In Shelter. 92% of patients served at Grace Clinic in 2011 were uninsured. The top diagnosis at Grace in 2011 was hypertension. Many people assume those experiencing homelessness are unemployed. A portion of the homeless patients (6%) work full or part time. 34
