Mission & Goals The 2011 – 2012 MEDiC Council will strive to: • Serve the underserved populations in Dane County via health education, primary and preventive care, and specialist referrals • Provide health professions students with clinical and multicultural education and experiences • Celebrate MEDiC’s 20 years of service by honoring our community partners, volunteers, and donors • Develop new relationships with the Madison community, focusing especially on recruiting additional physician volunteers • Expand on MEDiC’s infrastructure and ability to serve our patients through significant renovations to the ARC House and Dental clinics along with the implementation of an electronic patient encounter document • Develop a more streamlined transition process that better enhances the training and collaboration amongst the various health professions programs represented on the MEDiC Council Goals Accomplished Council Improvements • Improved communication between the various health professions schools represented on the MEDiC Council • Developed an improved transition process that facilitated better interdisciplinary communication and collaboration • Established MEDiC as a venue for health professions students to learn about other health professions programs • Celebrated MEDiC’s 20 years of service with volunteers, community partners, and UWSMPH faculty and staff • Launched the $20 for 20 years gift campaign Improvements in Patient Services • Finished the development and began implementation of an electronic Patient Encounter Document • ARC House expanded clinic to include a Nurse Practitioner allowing us to increase the number of volunteer positions available and patients seen each month • Renovations to both Dental Clinic and ARC House leading to improved quality and capacity for patients and volunteers • Expanded availability of Spanish language intake forms Improvements in Volunteer Preparation and Education • Improved and standardized the format of orientation for students of the various health professions programs • Recruited additional positions from Pharmacy and Nursing for the Council, initiating a transition to a truly more interdisciplinary council • Increased on-site education to student volunteers regarding the problems surrounding our patient population (expressing goals of both clinic skill enhancement as well as education about prevalence of psychiatric disorders, varying levels of literacy in the homeless population, health disparities, etc.) MEDiC Council and Vision 4
Committees Communications Committee Accomplishments: • Improved communication between the various health professions schools represented on the MEDiC Council • Developed an improved transition processes, facilitating better interdisciplinary communication and collaboration • Established MEDiC as a venue for health professions students to learn about other health professions programs by providing overviews of each program’s curriculum Public Relations Committee Accomplishments: • Transitioned to an electronic newsletter, saving significant printing and postage costs • MEDiC's Facebook page went online • Celebrated MEDiC’s 20 years of service with volunteers, community partners, and UWSMPH faculty and staff with a anniversary reception and poster session • Compiled complete list of all volunteers of the month, improving institutional memory • Enhanced VOM certificate design Fundraising Committee Accomplishments: • Launched the $20 for 20 years campaign • Received record donations from MEDiC family and friends • Raised a record amount of money, adding to organizational sustainability MEDiC Spotlights Physician Recruitment Committee Accomplishments: • Began tracking volunteer physician contact information • Developed a recruitment letter and distributed it to physicians via their medical student mentees • Developed a database for volunteers - where they work, etc. • Increased physician awareness of the need for volunteers with MEDiC. • Added 10 new provider volunteers in 2011 • Worked with current volunteers to improve the physician volunteer experience • Implemented a new physician scheduling process (December 2011) 5
