Under this Output Class the New Zealand Customs
management of risks and the enhancement of security.
The Service recruited a number of Intelligence staff shortly before the
reporting year commenced, resulting in greater output than forecast.
The forecast for alerts created and updated was not met as a
result of the forecast being based on historical data that was
inflated due to data transfer issues and an above average
number of alerts created by other agencies (over which Customs
has no control). The 2005/06 actual figure does not represent
any reduction in Customs’ level of operational activity.
This year’s forecast was underestimated, even though allowances
were made for an increase in transactions scanned over the
previous year’s forecast.
