Low tide is the perfect time for raccoons to find food. Raccoons It is low tide. That means the water is low. Now we can see another animal that lives among the mangroves, the raccoon. Most of the time it comes out only at night. But it has adapted or changed its schedule for food. The raccoon can find its favorite food at low tide. Look at the mangrove roots now that more of them are sticking out of the water. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of coon oysters are clinging to them. That is the raccoon’s favorite food. 9
The raccoon will come out during the day for food. Raccoons also love eggs. That is why pelicans nest high in the trees. They hope their nest is safe there. But safe places are hard to find because raccoons are great climbers and strong swimmers. 10
