2 SPRING 2012 VISIONS New signage was added to Saint Clare’s Hospital / Denville to reflect the new Bott Family Surgical Pavilion named for long-time Saint Clare’s supporters Gale and Bruce Bott. Dear Friends, Our Mission As we usher in the spring season that brings growth and renewal, it brings to mind the transformational efforts that are taking place at Saint Clare’s Health System. In this issue of Visions, we have highlighted many construction and renovation projects that are under way or have recently been completed. As Saint Clare’s transformation continues to unfold, we are grateful to our donors and friends for their generosity. With your support, we have made investments in our facilities that allow Saint Clare’s to continue to enhance the high quality and compassionate care that we provide. There are many exciting events happening this spring at the Saint Clare’s Foundation, including the 15th Annual Spring Gala, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We hope you can join us Saint Clare’s Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for Saint Clare’s Health System – assisting our healthcare system in its mission to nurture the healing ministry of the Church by bringing it new life, energy and viability in the 21st Century. This event will include a dinner, live entertainment by the Infernos, dancing, silent and live auctions, as well as a 50/50 prize raffle. The Gala promises to be another entertaining event. Later in the spring, the 35th Annual Johnny Rizzo Golf Outing will take place on June 13, 2012, at the Skyview Country Club in Sparta, N.J. Events such as these enable us to provide needed support to the many services offered at Saint Clare’s Health System. In this new year, we also offer our heartfelt gratitude to each and every donor for your year-end giving. Saint Clare’s Foundation 15th Annual Spring Gala Honorees The 15th Annual Spring Gala will be held on May 4, 2012, at the Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park, N.J. The 2012 Gala committee, led by co-chairs Gale Bott and Ann McManus, has been busy this past year planning this elegant event. This year’s Spring Gala will include a dinner, live entertainment by the Infernos, dancing, silent and live auctions, as well as a 50/50 prize raffle. As the Saint Clare’s Foundation’s biggest fundraiser, the Spring Gala aims to raise funds in support of Saint Clare’s and its mission to improve the health and well being of the community by providing the highest-quality care. During the event, the Foundation will bestow awards to several individuals for their contributions to Saint Clare’s and the community. Alma Ratcliffe, MD, Executive Vice President, Medical Affairs, at Saint Clare’s, will be presented with the 2012 Physician Humanitarian Award; and Emergency Physicians of Saint Clare’s, LLC, will receive the 2012 Leadership Award. Mary Mulholland and the late Dr. Robert Mulholland will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Alma Ratcliffe, MD Rohan Somar, MD Emergency Physicians of Saint Clare’s Born on the island of Cebu in the southern Philippines, Dr. Ratcliffe grew up in a very religious Catholic family, and attributes her family for teaching her the value of hard work, and giving back to those in need. During her time at Saint Clare’s, Dr. Ratcliffe has worked hard to incorporate these values in the many programs and services she has led, coordinated and implemented, and would like to share this award with the many physicians, leaders and staff at Saint Clare’s who embody a humanitarian spirit. She acknowledges each and every one of them giving tribute to all they do every day for Saint Clare’s and the community. “I believe that together we can make a difference,” Dr. Ratcliffe said. “We make a living by what we receive, but make a life by what we give.” Dr. Ratcliffe and her husband Jesse have two sons: Justin, who is a physician and cardiology fellow in New York City, and Joffre, who is a computer software engineer in San Diego. Dr. Robert and Mary Mulholland Emergency Physicians of Saint Clare’s has pledged $1 million to support system-wide emergency department renovations through the Miracles: Saint Clare’s Vision for the Future campaign, led by Chairman and Medical Director Rohan Somar, MD, FACEP, FAAEM. Emergency Physicians of Saint Clare’s believes in its mission to provide the highest-quality emergency care to the community in the most efficient and customer-friendly manner. During the past 10 years, the group has worked to improve patient flow, quality and satisfaction in Saint Clare’s emergency departments. Founded in 2002, there are now 24 doctors and 10 physician assistants, who provide 24-hour clinical coverage to Saint Clare’s emergency departments in Denville, Dover and Sussex.
