Framing the Future
The many capital construction projects taking
place at Saint Clare’s are moving forward this
year as the health system continues to upgrade
its facilities to meet the needs of its patients in
an ever-changing healthcare environment. With
the support of generous donors and Catholic
Health Initiatives, Saint Clare’s has been transforming
its four main campuses with the finest
services and sophisticated technology along
with cosmetic upgrades. Many of these projects
have been completed but work continues at the
Denville campus.
Saint Clare’s Emergency Department (ED)
Expansion and Renovation project is nearing
completion. The expanded ED will be a more
efficient, patient-centered environment with more
private, spacious and modernized treatment
areas. Recent work completed includes the
Psychiatric Emergency space that has doubled
in size from three to six beds and is more
conducive to quality behavioral health care. Also
completed are the new ED entrance, two new
triage rooms, and a new reception and registration
area as well as separate waiting areas for adults
and children. Renovations are also completed on
the Evelyn M. Spiro Pediatric Emergency Care
Center, which offers the expertise, training and
special equipment to take care of a child and
their parents in an emergency. The Center
increased from a five-bed treatment area to one
with eight beds. Also completed is an upgraded
ambulance entrance in late December.
The renovated Emergency Department in Denville features a special
children’s waiting area.
The new Evelyn M. Spiro Pediatric Emergency Care Center in Denville
provides emergency treatment to children in a kid-friendly atmosphere.
Each of the eight patient areas is equipped with a television and is
brightly decorated so children feel as calm and comfortable as possible.
The final phase to renovate the main part of the
ED is being designed and will begin in April. Also
to be completed is a new ED canopy that is also in
the design phase. This canopy will provide shelter
for patients and visitors as well as a new area for
discharging patients. This project is scheduled to
be completed this summer, weather permitting.
Phase three work continues on the first floor of
the Urban Tower in Denville. With phase one
completed in November, patients and staff were
relocated to the newly renovated area. Phase 2 was
completed in February. The new unit received a
new telemetry system, new windows and flooring,
flat screen televisions, bed exit systems, and is
GetWellNetwork ready. The GetWellNetwork,
generously donated by Saint Clare’s Auxiliary/
Denville and Boonton Township, provides
access to health education programs, hospital
services, medication information and entertainment
options, including access to the Internet,
television programming, movies, video games
and music, directly at the patient’s bedside. Work
on the first floor of the Urban Tower has begun
and will be completed in June.
Another significant project that is under way is
the renovation of the Same Day Surgery unit in
Denville. The unit will receive cosmetic upgrades,
an expanded waiting room and the redesign of
the ancillary rooms. This project will be completed
in 2012.
