14. Vocal entries must appear as registered. Illness or emergency circumstances may<br />

reduce an entry below the original registration, however a school may increase the<br />

number of participants only by following the provisions specified in Errors In Registration<br />

(p.11)<br />

15. Director’s sets/Accompanists sets of the All-State music are a responsibility of the<br />

district and must be paid for by the director/district apart from their All-State registration.<br />

16. Auditioning groups may be asked to audition on the Ward/Dragon arr. of “America the<br />

Beautiful” and the Wilhousky arr. of “<strong>The</strong> Battle Hymn”. Copies of these selections<br />

may be purchased by contacting Jay’s <strong>Music</strong> (800-798-5555).<br />

ALL-STATE PIANIST<br />

Students auditioning for All-State Pianist must be an eligible member of the school’s band,<br />

chorus or orchestra. Three pianists will be selected. Two pianists will be selected to accompany<br />

the chorus and one to play with the band and orchestra. Pianists not willing to<br />

accept either assignment should not audition.<br />

<strong>The</strong> registration fee of $10.00 does NOT cover the cost of the music for accompanist<br />

candidates. <strong>School</strong>s will need to make their own arrangements for the music, including<br />

the patriotic numbers.<br />

FIRST ROUND AUDITIONS:<br />

<strong>The</strong> first round auditions will be held at each of the six district audition sites. Registration<br />

forms for auditions have been mailed to each school. Auditions are SATURDAY, OC-<br />

TOBER 26, 2002, AT 8:00 A.M.<br />

Following are the requirements for the first round auditions:<br />

1. <strong>The</strong> excerpts of the keyboard parts which are to be played will be posted at 7:30 a.m.<br />

2. Each candidate MUST prepare all of the keyboard parts of each All-State chorus<br />

selections, including the patriotic numbers as well as the band and orchestra selections<br />

which will be sent upon receipt of registration. Candidates are to take all selections<br />

into the audition center.<br />

3. <strong>The</strong> candidate MAY use a STUDENT PAGE-TURNER in the audition.<br />

4. <strong>The</strong> candidate may take 5-10 seconds to familiarize him/herself with the piano in the<br />

audition center.<br />

5. <strong>The</strong> auditor will conduct the candidate on the designated excerpts.<br />

6. <strong>The</strong> ability to play the keyboard parts ACCURATELY and at the REQUIRED<br />

TEMPO plus the ability to FOLLOW A CONDUCTOR will account for 75% of the<br />

final score.<br />

7. For the remaining 25% of the final score, candidates will be evaluated on their facility<br />

to serve as a REHEARSAL ACCOMPANIST. Each will be tested on the ability to<br />

quickly locate and to accurately play, pitches (bottom to top).<br />

8. <strong>The</strong> candidate will not be required to play the open score.<br />

9. <strong>The</strong> auditor is not REQUIRED to select any candidate for the second round, but may<br />

select one or two pianists if the quality exists. Candidates selected on the first round<br />

will be posted during the morning session.<br />
