the Best Clinical Research<br />

Presentation Award at the<br />

Research<br />

Competition <strong>of</strong> the<br />

European<br />

Association for<br />

Osseointegration<br />

(EAO). <strong>The</strong> award<br />

Dedi<br />

was presented to<br />

Dr. Dedi during EAO’s annual<br />

session in Zurich Switzerland<br />

in October 5-7 2006, for her<br />

presented abstract “Immediate<br />

Tooth Replacement: A 2-year<br />

comparative study.”<br />

Dr. Dedi was also voted as a<br />

Fellow <strong>of</strong> the International Team<br />

<strong>of</strong> Implantology (ITI), based in<br />

Basel, Switzerland. Fellows <strong>of</strong> this<br />

prestigious organization demonstrate<br />

an active commitment in<br />

the areas <strong>of</strong> leadership, research,<br />

education and development in<br />

implant dentistry.<br />

Albert Guckes, DDS, MS,<br />

associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor and assistant<br />

dean for academic affairs,<br />

received the National Foundation<br />

for Ectodermal Dysplasias’ John<br />

E. Gilster, DDS,<br />

Outstanding Service<br />

Through <strong>Dentistry</strong><br />

Award at its recent<br />

25th anniversary<br />

gala. Guckes was<br />

Guckes<br />

honored for his commitment<br />

to the oral health <strong>of</strong><br />

individuals affected by ectodermal<br />

dysplasia syndromes and for<br />

his outstanding<br />

contributions to the foundation.<br />

Ectodermal dysplasia syndromes<br />

constitute a group <strong>of</strong> about 150<br />

heritable disorders that affect the<br />

ectoderm, which is the outer<br />

layer <strong>of</strong> tissue in a developing<br />

baby.<br />

Dr. Stella Kourkouta joined the<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Prosthodontics in<br />

October 2006 for a one-year<br />

implant research<br />

scholarship program,<br />

a scholarship<br />

granted on an annual<br />

basis through the<br />

International Team<br />

Kourkouta<br />

for Implantology<br />

(ITI) based in Basel, Switzerland.<br />

ITI is a worldwide non-pr<strong>of</strong>it<br />

organization <strong>of</strong> scientists and<br />

practitioners in the field <strong>of</strong><br />

implant dentistry that aims to<br />

promote and disseminate knowledge<br />

in implant related research,<br />

education and patient care.<br />

Kourkouta also holds a position<br />

as an Honorary Consultant at the<br />

Eastman Dental Hospital and<br />

Institute in London, England.<br />
