s e c t o r a l s n a p s h o t Roundtable Discussion on Role of ICT for Developing Rural India June 3, 2009: Noida Mr Ramesh Suri, Chairman CII UP State council addressing the gathering Mr Ramesh Suri, Chairman, CII Uttar Pradesh at a Roundtable discussion on role of ICT in developing Rural India said, “Common wisdom has it that the modern information and communication technologies (ICTs) such as telephony or the internet hold unmatched opportunities for developing countries. Academics, policymakers and entrepreneurs frequently claim that ICTs represent one of the most powerful tools in the struggle against poverty”. Valuable insights were provided by Mr Neeraj Aggarwal, Project Director for Affirmative Actions, NIIT; Mr Sanjeev K Gupta , Government Programmes Executive, IBM; Mr H N S Rao , Academic Head ICT, EDUCOMP and Dr Vinay Sharma, IIT – Roorkee. The session helped in spreading the word of Information & Communication Technology and taught the rural masses through IT & ICT tools. EXCON - Road Show October 26, 2009: Lucknow Interactive Session on IT-BPO Destination Lucknow November 26, 2009: Lucknow With an aim to share best practices and build strategies for soliciting industrial investments in the IT sector in the city, CII Uttar Pradesh State organized an interactive session on `IT-BPO Destination Mr Jayant Krishna, Vice Chairman, UP State Council, Prof Kripa Shankar, Vice Chancellor-UPTU, Mr Anoop Mishra, Industrial & Infrastructure Development Commissioner , Mr Chandra Prakash, Principal Secretary, I T Lucknow’ at the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS`s) Awadh Park Campus. The session furnished valuable inputs by eminent bureaucrats and IT-BPO representatives including Mr. Anoop Mishra, Infrastructure & Industrial Development Commissioner, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Mr Chandra Prakash, Principal Secretary, Information Technology, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Prof. Kripa Shanker, Vice Chancellor, Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Mr. Jayant Krishna, Vice Chairman, CII UP State Council. Dignitaries at EXCON 2009 As a run up to Excon 2009, India’s largest trade fair on construction equipments & construction technology a road show was held in Lucknow. CII organized Excon 2009, in association with Indian Earthmoving and Construction Industry Association Ltd (IECIAL), at Bangalore. Addressing the Road Show, Mr Kiron Chopra, Former Chairman of CII Uttar Pradesh said, “There is tremendous opportunity for Indian Companies to showcase developments and create business linkages with global companies given the fact that Indian economy is still growing despite the global slowdown”. Mr Tribhuwan Ram, Engineer-in Chief, Public Works Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh was the special guest for the event. 20 such road shows were held across the country.
