For example, you Continued on Page 60 Kitchenware News & Housewares Review Show Daily VITA CRAFT MAKES QUALITY COOKWARE FOR GLOBAL MARKETPLACE Vita Craft Corporation was started in 1939 in Harrisburg, Penn., by three cookware salesmen who felt they could make a premium cookware. Their goal was to retain the vitamins and minerals and reduce shrinkage in foods when cooked by creating a vapor seal. They contracted with a company to make their own brand of cookware and named it Vita Craft. Their first year (1940) was so successful they moved the headquarters to Kansas City. Everything ran smoothly until 1943, when the company was forced to close its doors for a brief period while materials used to make the pans were diverted to the war effort. However, in 1945, the War Production Board granted the company a license to produce its pans, and thus the company survived. After the war in 1945, they purchased some land in Shawnee, Kan., beginning their own production of cookware. The original cookware was made of heavy-duty cold rolled aluminum, the finest material available at the time. Around 1960, three-ply carbon core steel was introduced. It had a high gloss shine and was easy to clean. Years later, after much research, a new material for cookware was discovered in a small factory in Pennsylvania: cladded stainless steel with an aluminum core! Consisting of two layers of stainless steel and three layers of aluminum, this combination had never been used in cookware before. After much experimenting and development work it was determined, yes, it could be done. Vita Craft’s “Penta Ply” was born. This combination worked perfectly. The stainless steel was not only beautiful, but also durable and easy to care for. The three layers of aluminum and aluminum alloy conducted heat evenly across the bottom and up the sides of the cookware. With the precision fit of the stainless steel cover, the pan became a mini oven on top of the stove, using low to medium heat. Vita Craft, from its inception in 1939, has been a direct sales company, giving the salesman the opportunity to explain the features and benefits of the cookware. Vita Craft and many of our Private Label accounts continue to be successfully sold this way today. The popularity of television and radio shows that promote the purchase of cookware, along with cooking and food preparation, has introduced the consumer to quality cookware. With this in mind, Vita Craft decided to introduce a line of cookware to the U.S.A. retail market. Vita Craft had already been sold retail in Japan for the past 30+ years in fine department stores with a dedicated staff to showcase the many uses of the cookware. Vita Craft felt gourmet and specialty retailers met that need in the U.S.A. In late 2010, NEOVA stainless steel cookware by Vita Craft was introduced to the gourmet and specialty stores. The five-ply stainless steel cookware features “stay-cool” stainless steel tubular handles welded to the outside of the pan, leaving the inside smooth and free of rivets. The welds are tested to 250 pounds of pressure. No inside rivets makes cleaning easier. Additional cookware lines were added in 2011 that are induction capable.
