FUEL YOUR FAMILY WITH
WHAT MATTERS: VITACLAY
Quinoa is the newest ancient super-grain
on the health scene, and VitaClay makes
cooking quinoa easy!
Quinoa, once renowned as the gold of
the Incas, has long been recognized for
its nutritious properties. The Incans of
South America regarded it as the mother
of all grains and used it in sacred rituals.
Quinoa is rich in amino acids and
contains a complete protein, making it a
perfect addition to a vegan lifestyle.
Gluten-free, it is also a boon to those
with food allergies. An excellent source
of protein, iron, fiber, calcium, potassium,
riboflavin and copper, it is a great
way to feed your body accessible nutrients
that can be difficult to absorb from
other foods. It is also high in fiber and a
recommended addition to a healthy diet.
With push-button controls and preprogramming
settings, throw your quinoa
in the clay pot and come home to fresh,
healthy goodness. It’s like having your
OASIS CONCEPTS INTRODUCES LINE
OF FOLDING KITCHEN ISLANDS
A folding kitchen island based on a
patented precision-hinge folding mechanism
will be displayed by Oasis
Concepts at the 2011 International Home
and Housewares Show. The new “Oasis
Island” has a powder-coated steel frame,
two steel shelves and a solid hardwood
parquet design island top. The new island
comes in four attractive colors: black,
white, red and platinum, providing a nice
accent to any home. The new size is
22.5"W X 21"D X 36"H. A foldable wire
basket is included.
“We designed this folding island to
provide a solution for the consumers who
needs the extra work surface but do not
want to assemble a complicated kitchen
island,” said Kelvin Ng, President. “It
comes fully assembled. We also designed
it to fold to just 5.25" within seconds.
This thin profile allows you to find just a
small space to store the island.”
“This island is also portable. It has
four locking castors and you can wheel
NOW AEROLATTE WARMS
WHILE IT WHISKS AND
SERVES UP THE COFFEE
It’s fair to say that no one knows milk
frothing like those boys over at aerolatte
® . For 11 years they’ve been coming
over from Great Britain to the
International Home and Housewares
Show here in Chicago showing us an
apparently simple but deceptively
technical device that perfectly froths
milk for cappuccinos. The aerolatte
frother delivers the sort of milk foam
that you just can’t get in a domestic
steam-based cappuccino machine.
Over the years they’ve made many
refinements to the range, usually small
technical improvements that only
frothed milk aficionados would really
notice, but which go to ensure that the
aerolatte devices are the world’s bestknown,
steam-free milk frothers. All
improvements have had the ultimate
aim of bettering the already legendary
quality and making the frothing
process even easier for the consumer.
And aerolatte has had a busy year:
The company, Green Lane Products―
which lies behind the aerolatte brand,
Diablo toasted snack maker and dryerballs
(in conjunction with their North
American partners Batten Industries),
as well as the newly launched Ingazzi ®
System―has taken a huge new step in
the art of milk frothing. Its latest introduction
is an electrical appliance
which heats up cold milk whilst
frothing it in a jug to just the right
temperature and consistency. The
eponymously named “aerolatte hot”
has heaps of patent-pending technology
that senses the temperature of
the milk and electronically controls the
frothing action. This means that any
quantity of milk, from as little as
100ml to as much as 250ml, can be
frothed in the same appliance.
Consequently, the aerolatte hot can
make from as little as one cup of
frothed milk right up to a whopping
1 ½ pints of creamy foam.
What’s even more impressive is
that despite the heater and the electronic
sensor, the aerolatte hot can be
washed in a dishwasher after use. This
is believed to be the first domestic electrical
kitchen appliance that is dishwasher
safe. They’ve also developed a
special nonstick coating, called
Lattelon ® , specially designed to prevent
milk from burning and sticking to
the pot. Gary Lane, joint CEO of Green
Lane Products, said, “This truly is the
next generation of milk frothing.
Although we believe the batteryoperated
aerolatte frother will continue
to be found in more and more homes,
the aerolatte hot will be the machine of
choice for those who want nothing but
the best.”
Also this year, aerolatte is
announcing the caffè porcellana.
This is a traditional Italian-style
stovetop espresso maker with a difference.
The authentic espresso ends
up in a porcelain jug, which can be
removed from the pot and taken
straight to table either to serve or
pour into froth for a cappuccino. It’s
the sort of simplicity and style we’ve
come to expect from aerolatte.
And to show off the true artistry of
a perfect barista-style cappuccino,
aerolatte has released the second edition
of “cappuccino art”: a collection
of stencils in a smart tin that allows
you to dust chocolate or cinnamon into
a creative and original shape on the top
of your cappuccino.
EURO-WARE ENTERS INTO LICENSING
AGREEMENT WITH ENTENMANN’S
Euro-Ware, a division of New Yorkbased
Dura-Kleen (USA) Inc., has
entered into a licensing agreement with
Entenmann’s Inc.—one of the nation’s
oldest baking companies—to manufacture,
distribute and market a new line of
bakeware products bearing the
Entenmann’s brand name.
New York-based Entenmann’s has
been baking cakes, pies, cookies, danishes,
donuts and other confections since it
was founded as a family-owned bakery in
1898. It is currently owned by Bimbo
Bakeries USA, which today is a leading
baker in the continental U.S.
Euro-Ware/Dura-Kleen is a privately
owned New York company founded and
managed by the Zaytoune family since
1989, where they have been expanding
and thriving in the industry by offering
an extensive collection of quality functional
products at competitive price
points. Their headquarters are located in
Brooklyn, N.Y., with showrooms in New
York City, Miami, Chicago, Boston and
Philadelphia.
Licensed product lines have long
been a part of the housewares industry,
and according to Euro-Ware’s
President Raymond Zaytoune, “we
LIFE IN VERMONT … WINTER 2011
For more than 60 years J.K. Adams
wood products have been made at the
same location in South Dorset, Vt., and
during that time we have seen our share
of hard winters—but this one may
break some records.
The traveling is at times grim during
the repeated snow storms that have
hit the region, the big wood furnaces
that heat the factory run steadily and
we lost the roof on a small shed.
Fortunately the materials in the shed
were not damaged. Maple and ash are
tough materials to hurt. One of the
appeals of wood is its terrific strength
in comparison to its weight. If a few
tons of snow will not crush this wood,
rest assured that the cutting boards,
spice racks and knife trays that we
manufacture will not damage
easily in your kitchen.
There is one bright side to a winter
with 3 feet of snow on the ground from
the perspective of us woodworkers.
Deep snow protects the forest floor and
allows loggers to work fast and efficiently.
The cut logs stay clean (no mud
and dirt) as they are hauled on the slippery
snow out of the woods—a big plus
for sawmills. This translates into a
have been interested in
entering the licensing
market for some time and
we feel that the licensing
of the Entenmann’s brand
to our line of bakeware is
a logical and perfect combination. The
strong Entenmann’s brand is instantly
recognizable by families everywhere,
and we look forward to producing a
quality line of bakeware products that
lives up to the household name that you
know and trust.”
The Entenmann’s Bakeware line
will debut at the 2011 International
Housewares Show with approximately
50 SKUs spread across three categories;
Classic, Ultimate and Minis.
Classic is the opening price point collection
with traditional nonstick
reliable stream of raw material at fair
prices this winter. J.K. Adams uses
FSC-certified lumber in some of our
products. This lumber come from
forests managed to strict environmental
standards, especially concerning residual
damage to the forest and the surrounding
watershed. The protective
coating of the white stuff makes this
process that much easier to control.
Inside the factory we are continually
refining our bowl turning skills.
Many folks think that since we make
wood products like cutting boards and
wine racks that we should be able to
jump right into the bowl making
business. We never believed it would
be easy; in fact, it has been quite a
baking pans and trays including
loaf, cake and brownie pans,
cookie sheets, baking trays and
muffin pans. Ultimate, a heavier
weight, medium price point line
of nonstick baking trays and
pans will feature silicone enhanced
handles. The Ultimate line includes a
mix of specialty sizes along with basic
sizes as well.
The third collection is Minis—kidfriendly,
small-sized baking sets that are
a great way to spend some time in the
kitchen with the kids!
Look for the first round of products
to hit store shelves in June. You can visit
their booth S4016 at the show or for more
information on Entenmann’s Bakeware
contact 718-272-4582 or e-mail them at
info@entenmannsbakeware.com.
challenge. Just because one is a skilled
French chef does not mean that one can
easily learn the art of rolling sushi.
Working with a spinning piece of wood
(turning bowls on a lathe) is a completely
different process than cutting a
stationary piece of wood with a spinning
shaper head. We are nothing if not stubborn,
determined Yankees and we have
made great strides in our turning capabilities
during the past year. The 2011
line of cherry bowls are quite beautiful,
and as with all J.K. Adams products,
quite functional as well.
TEN TIPS AND TRICKS FOR
CARING FOR DURACERAMICA
KNIVES BY HAMPTON
Hampton, a leader in innovative flatware,
cutlery, barware and kitchen
solutions, introduces DuraCeramica―
a stylish and colorfully bold ceramic
knife collection. Ceramic knives are
growing in popularity for their long
lasting, ultra-sharp blades, and they are
a mainstay for professional chefs who
have used them for years. But many
consumers aren’t aware of what ceramic
knives are or how to care for them.
Here are 10 tips and tricks for
the care and everyday use of
beyond the norm to educate and captivate
their viewers with each video. Every
video translates a personality into a
product while demonstrating how to use
it. Through this unique non-verbal language,
a large amount of information is
transformed into an enjoyable viewing
and shopping experience.
“Fusionbrands creates hilarious viral
films, e-greeting cards, and signature,
DuraCeramica knifes.
1. Keep ultra-sharp DuraCeramica
knives in their blade guards when not
in use.
Ceramic knives may look harmless
with their crisp white design, but they
are extraordinarily sharp. Sharp knives
are actually safer in use, offering
effortless cutting motions without the
dull knife drag. Whether stored in a
drawer or left on a countertop, these
knives are safest when in their ABS
color-coordinated blade guard. You
dynamic product videos that truly reach
out to an international audience of all
ages,” said Lori Jung, Account Director
at JB Cumberland Public Relations, the
Fusionbrands Agency of Record. “The
videos are an unparalleled tool to
communicate the ease, original design
and purpose of each item. The videos
really speak louder than words and make
everyone want to try the products in their
never want to store a
DuraCeramica knife
unsheathed.
2. Use DuraCeramica
knives when cutting
onions, spicy peppers
and garlic.
Ceramic knives
are non-porous, which
means they won’t
absorb or transfer
food odors or flavors.
Odors and flavors rinse away.
3. Use DuraCeramica knives when
cutting chicken or other meats.
Carbon steel, while a popular material
for knives, may rust and attract bacteria
over time. Most steel knives require
own home.”
Fusionbrands videos can be viewed
on fusionbrands.com, the Fusionbrands
YouTube channel, the Fusionbrands
Facebook page, retailer television networks,
in-store displays and many
other venues.
Five new videos were recently completed
in February 2011 and can be
viewed for the first time at www.fusion
brands.com. Videos of the latest
Fusionbrands products will be seen by
extra cleaning to keep
them hygienic. DuraCeramica
won’t rust and its ultra-hard
surface is easier to clean.
4. DuraCeramica is harder
than steel, but not impervious
to damage.
As with metal knives,
ceramic blades can be
damaged by cutting frozen
foods and bones. Although
DuraCeramica knives are harder than
stainless steel, ranking an 8.5 on the
Mohs scale of mineral hardness―
compared to 6-6.5 for hardened
steel―their razor-sharp surfaces can
be chipped if used incorrectly.
Hampton Forge (Con’t. from p. 21)
5. Use DuraCeramica knifes for slicing
or cutting acidic foods.
Acidic fruits and vegetables react
to the metal ions in steel blades and
may leave a metallic taste residue.
DuraCeramica knives do not interact
with acidic foods, and may actually
help foods stay fresher, longer.
6. As with any knife, do not use
DuraCeramica as a tool to pry anything
open or to cut packaging.
Even banging on a stone counter
to break open garlic, for instance, is
considered an improper knife use.
7. DuraCeramica knives work best on
softer cutting boards like plastic, wood
or bamboo. Marble and glass should
be avoided.
8. DuraCeramica knives are lightweight,
offering less stress on arms
and shoulders for longer periods of
food preparation.
9. DuraCeramica knives will stay
sharper longer than their metal counterparts
and may never need sharpening.
Should a DuraCeramica blade ever
become dull or chipped, they can be
sharpened with a diamond stone and
other tools that buff the surface. Like
metal blades, professional service is
always recommended to restore the
knife back to its original condition.
10. Is a dishwasher safe for
DuraCeramica knives?
DuraCeramica knives require very
little maintenance. A quick rinse or a little
detergent is all that is typically needed.
The danger with dishwashing is the violent
rattling a knife may endure which
could chip its ultra-fine blade. These
are lightweight precision tools and can
get moved around in a dishwasher by
high-pressure water sprays.
HEALTHY STEPS BY JOKARI
MAKES IT EASY TO FOLLOW
NEW USDA GUIDELINES
The USDA’s new dietary guidelines
encourage Americans to focus on what
they eat and how they eat. At the heart of
the guidelines: cut back on salt, sugar and
fat, and trim portion sizes.
Healthy Steps by Jokari, an innovative
line of portion control kitchen tools
now on display in booth S443, offers
these tips to make the new guidelines
work for family meals every day:
• Portion control is key.
• Fill half your plate with fruits and
vegetables.
• Switch to a reduced fat milk.
perfectly grilled masterpiece. The
unique double-pronged design makes
the outdoor chef’s job almost effortless.
The classic design of the entrée skewer
makes for a wonderful presentation of
the food and truly can go right from the
grill to the plate.
The Fire Wire Entrée Skewer has
great lineage in the Fire Wire Flexible
Grilling Skewer and shares many of
the features that make the entire Fire
Wire family a customer favorite. The
• Compare sodium in foods to reduce
your intake.
• Drink water instead of high-calorie,
sugary drinks.
“Healthy Steps was the first to market
with a complete line of sleek and simple
tools designed to make portion control a
breeze,” said Doug Taeckens, President
and CEO of Jokari. “By simplifying the
cooking routine, Healthy Steps makes it
easier to prepare fresh and vitamin-rich
foods at home, while following the new
USDA dietary guidelines.”
entrée skewer can be loaded with food
and then placed directly in marinade,
thanks to its food grade stainless steel
design and its slightly blunted tips that
won’t poke through a plastic marinating
bag. The result is a product that
goes seamlessly from marinade, to
grill, to plate. The Fire Wire Entrée
Skewer is dishwasher-safe and comes
with a lifetime guarantee.
Fire Wire offers great merchandising
support for the product line. The
innovative merchandising kit includes
an actual grill with a full color advertisement
wrap, red rope lights (coals!),
a Fire Wire skewer loaded with fake
food, and a 7-inch video screen that
For example, the Healthy Steps Salt
Shaker delivers a precise amount every
time. It’s a measuring dispenser and a
shaker, which makes it convenient to
manage sodium.
Healthy Steps Serving Tools deliver
proper portion sizes at the stovetop or
dinner table. Portion sizes are tucked
away on the heads of the serving tools,
while other tools help manage portions
of butter, cheese, salad dressings
and more.
Also from Healthy Steps: the Portion
Control Pasta Basket, which measures
and cooks a precise amount of pasta
while removing the guesswork. The
Portion Control Vegetable Server is a
slotted spoon that measures a halfserving
of cooked vegetables. And the
new Fish Turner makes it easier than ever
to pan-prepare seafood entrées.
loops the Fire Wire instructional video.
The Fire Wire Marinating Kit is an all
natural blend of herbs and spices and is
a great companion to the skewers. Fire
Wire and the marinating kits present
nicely atop the display grill as the fake
food “cooks!” Take advantage of this
merchandising package and Fire Wire
will give you enough free skewers to
offset your cost.
Come see the debut of the Fire
Wire Entrée Skewer and learn more
“The news from Washington is a
regular reminder for Americans to do a
better job of managing their weight
through daily nutrition and physical
activity,” said Taeckens. “The USDA, the
FDA, HHS, even the White House have
validated the Healthy Steps proposition
we launched last year.”
Healthy Steps by Jokari offers a
complete line of portion control and
healthier eating kitchen tools, priced
VITA CRAFT MAKES
QUALITY COOKWARE
FOR GLOBAL MARKETPLACE
Vita Craft Corporation was started in
1939 in Harrisburg, Penn., by three
cookware salesmen who felt they
could make a premium cookware.
Their goal was to retain the vitamins
and minerals and reduce shrinkage in
foods when cooked by creating a vapor
seal. They contracted with a company
to make their own brand of cookware
and named it Vita Craft.
Their first year (1940) was so successful
they moved the headquarters to
Kansas City. Everything ran smoothly
until 1943, when the company was
forced to close its doors for a brief
period while materials used to make the
pans were diverted to the war effort.
However, in 1945, the War Production
Board granted the company a license to
produce its pans, and thus the company
survived. After the war in 1945, they
purchased some land in Shawnee, Kan.,
beginning their own production of
cookware.
The original cookware was made of
heavy-duty cold rolled aluminum, the
finest material available at the time.
Around 1960, three-ply carbon core
steel was introduced. It had a high gloss
shine and was easy to clean. Years later,
after much research, a new material for
cookware was discovered in a small factory
in Pennsylvania: cladded stainless
steel with an aluminum core! Consisting
of two layers of stainless steel and three
layers of aluminum, this combination
had never been used in cookware
before. After much experimenting and
development work it was determined,
yes, it could be done. Vita Craft’s “Penta
Ply” was born.
This combination worked perfectly.
The stainless steel was not only beautiful,
but also durable and easy to care
for. The three layers of aluminum and
aluminum alloy conducted heat evenly
across the bottom and up the sides of
the cookware. With the precision fit of
the stainless steel cover, the pan became
a mini oven on top of the stove, using
low to medium heat.
Vita Craft, from its inception in
1939, has been a direct sales company,
giving the salesman the opportunity to
explain the features and benefits of the
cookware. Vita Craft and many of our
Private Label accounts continue to be
successfully sold this way today.
The popularity of television and
radio shows that promote the purchase
of cookware, along with cooking and
food preparation, has introduced the
consumer to quality cookware. With
this in mind, Vita Craft decided to introduce
a line of cookware to the U.S.A.
retail market. Vita Craft had already
been sold retail in Japan for the past
30+ years in fine department stores with
a dedicated staff to showcase the many
uses of the cookware. Vita Craft felt
gourmet and specialty retailers met that
need in the U.S.A.
In late 2010, NEOVA stainless steel
cookware by Vita Craft was introduced
to the gourmet and specialty stores. The
five-ply stainless steel cookware features
“stay-cool” stainless steel tubular
handles welded to the outside of the
pan, leaving the inside smooth and free
of rivets. The welds are tested to 250
pounds of pressure. No inside rivets
makes cleaning easier. Additional cookware
lines were added in 2011 that are
induction capable.
Vita Craft Corporation continues to
manufacture quality cookware for all
markets worldwide. Whether by direct
sale, private label or retail, Vita Craft
cookware is second to none.

TRIBEST ADDS AN AROMA
OIL COMPARTMENT TO ITS
ELEGANTLY STYLED HUMIDIFIER
AND NIGHT LAMP, HUMIO
Tribest ® introduces Humio ® , a compact
solution designed to improve indoor air
quality while adding a touch of elegance
and décor to almost any room up to 100
square feet—now with an aroma oil compartment.
Humio now allows you to add
your favorite aroma oil for hours of comfort
and fresh scent throughout your home,
making Humio the only humidifier to offer
three solutions in one compact machine.
NEXTREND PRODUCTS REVEALS NEW
GENERATION OF ULTIMATE MINCING
DEVICE FOR KITCHEN USE
For years now, a gadget developed by a
small company in California has been
mentioned by numerous retailers as a one
of the hottest items in their stores. “We
first developed this product as a replacement
for the common but problematic
garlic press. Since then it has proven
itself in having won six industry awards
and setting new sales records at a number
of our store and mail-order retailers,”
said Eric Teng, President and Lead
Designer of NexTrend Products.
Adding your favorite aroma oil to
Humio adds a personal accent to your
home which lasts for hours, while softening
the air and setting the mood. With
Humio, adding your own special fragrance
to your home is easy and
effortless. There are no replacement
cartridges to buy: just add oil to the
aroma oil compartment and turn the
unit on with normal use.
To those who are not already familiar
with this product, we’re talking about the
Garlic Twist: a round tool that looks like
a yo-yo and has two halves that fit together
with two rows of cross-cutting teeth in
the center. The closed unit can be used to
smash garlic cloves in order to make them
peel easily; then, just place the clove
inside and start twisting! The more you
twist the unit, the more finely-minced the
garlic will become, until your desired texture
is reached. It is almost like magic that
“Because Humio does not
require a replacement cartridge
or heat source to infuse the
oils,” said Jae Choi, President
of Tribest Corporation, “there
is less waste and no risk for
burn or fire.” Choi continued,
“Most oil burners and plug-ins
require the frequent purchase
of costly candles or replacement
non-recyclable and non-reusable
cartridges, which can become expensive.
With Humio, not only can you
save money but also contribute to saving
the environment.”
Humio utilizes improvements to
ultrasonic and LED technologies.
Ultrasonic sound vibrations created by a
metal diaphragm vibrating at an ultrasonic
two neat triangular piles of properly
minced garlic will form at the end of your
twisting. After that, every last bit of the
minced garlic can simply be removed by
using a spatula or a spoon. After this, a
quick rinse under the faucet is all it takes
to completely cleanse the unit.
Those of us who abhor singlepurpose
kitchen tools will be glad to
learn that the Garlic Twist is truly a multifunctional
kitchen mincer as it is just as
competent at mincing a variety of other
foods including nuts, chili pepper, olives,
shallots and onion.
The latest news about this exciting
item is that NexTrend Products has
recently introduced a new generation
which they call the GT3, with modern
styling and colors along with improved
frequency silently release
moisture into the air, while
light emitting diodes utilize an
encapsulated electronic chip
to add light and ambiance to a
room’s décor—ultimately
offering durability, convenience,
longevity and style. Air
passing through the air vent
joins the aroma from your
desired oil, with the water being released
into the air accenting your home with
your favorite scents.
The new Humio, model HU1020, will
be featured in Tribest’s booth, L12325. For
PURE AIR. DELIVERED.
Introducing The ZŌN Air Purifier
A Public Health Crisis
The U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) identifies
indoor air pollution as
one of the top five most urgent
environmental risks to public
health. With people spending upwards
of 80 percent of their time indoors, it is
particularly troubling to hear that air in
our homes is five times more polluted
than outdoor air. Not coincidentally,
asthma and allergy rates have increased
dramatically over the past two decades.
By overlooking the indoor air quality
of their home, the health of individuals
and families is at risk.
The ZŌN Solution
Traditional home air purifiers have failed
to address the indoor air crisis adequately.
Research has shown that room-based air
purifiers as a category are ineffective at
delivering clean air to the room occupants.
Humanscale’s revolutionary ZŌN Air
Purifier confronts the indoor air crisis to
remove more than 99 percent of all airborne
contaminants—dust, bacteria, allergens,
viruses and even Volatile Organic
Compounds (VOCs), like formaldehyde—for
the cleanest air possible.
What sets ZŌN apart from traditional
home air purifiers is its ability to direct
the cleanest possible air to where it’s
needed: the breathing zone. Featuring
breeze-free, ozone-free and virtually
silent operation with a small footprint,
ZŌN can be discretely positioned on a
bedside table, near a favorite couch or
chair, or on a desk to deliver purified air
in a uniquely targeted way.
Road Trip” series is available now.
Jamie is also continuing his campaign
for better food in American
schools and homes. “Jamie’s Food
Revolution” is back with a new season
on ABC in April 2011.
ZŌN Technology
ZŌN technology, originally developed
in Sweden for industrial air
cleaning applications, is commercially
available for the first time
for personal use. Rendering existing
air cleaning technologies
obsolete, ZŌN silently and comfortably
delivers ultra pure air right to the
user’s breathing zone.
How It Works
An electric field charges all particles that
enter the system. Four fans move a high volume
of air slowly and noiselessly through
an oppositely-charged tightly coiled paper
filter, which acts like a magnet to capture
more than 99 percent of all particulates, no
matter how small. The particulate-free air
then moves through a gas-phase filter where
VOC gases and noxious odors are removed
for the purest possible air.
Exceeds Energy Star
Requirements By 300 Percent
Not only is ZŌN good for a family’s
health, but it is the most eco-friendly air
purifier available. Using just 22 watts of
energy while producing a Clean Air
Delivery Rate (CADR) of 125, ZŌN is
three times more efficient than Energy
Star requirements and far surpasses the
efficiency of every other air purifier in
the world. In addition to its low power
consumption, ZŌN is the only air purifier
to offer a paper filter that can either be
recycled with paper products or vacuumed
clean for reuse.
DAYSAGO DIGITAL DAY COUNTER
AWARDED FOR EXCELLENCE
AND INNOVATION
DaysAgo Digital Day Counter won two
prestigious awards in the 2010 Creative
Child & Baby Maternity Awards.
DaysAgo was honored with the 2010
“Top Choice of the Year” award and the
2010 “Seal of Excellence” from Creative
Child Magazine.
The DaysAgo Digital Day Counter,
made by Double U Products Inc., has
won two important awards from the 2010
Creative Child Magazine’s Creative
Child & Baby Maternity Awards
Program. The awards program uses over
a hundred reviewers consisting of parents,
educators and education professionals
to select outstanding products in a
variety of categories.
The DaysAgo was selected to receive
the coveted “Top Choice of the Year”
Award in the Parenting Aids category, rising
above the hundreds of other product
submissions in the category to become the
KYOCERA INTRODUCES
TWO NEW KNIFE STYLES
TO THEIR CUTLERY COLLECTION
As a result of the high demand for a serrated
knife that not only cuts through
bread, but also slices through delicate
foods, Kyocera introduces their
Revolution 7" Serrated Slicing Knife
(Product #: FK-181 WH-BK MSRP:
$69.95). The serration on this blade has
a more refined teeth pattern compared to
other serrated knives. This means delicate
cuts through waxy skins and softer
foods, such as tomatoes with pure and
clean precision. A 7" blade length is ideal
for slicing larger foods, such as heads of
lettuce and cabbage, breads, large fish
and meats. The serration allows zero
resistance. Ultra-sharp, rust-proof, will
never brown foods and lightweight—this
knife is perfect for everyday use.
With all the benefits of a traditional
sized Santoku Knife, Kyocera created a
mini version: the Revolution 4" Mini
Santoku Knife (Product #: FK-115
WH-BK MSRP: $34.95). It too is ideal
for chopping vegetables, fruits, boneless
meats and fish—just on a smaller
scale. It’s perfect for people who prefer
reviewers’ top choice.
The DaysAgo was also awarded
the “Seal of Excellence” in the
Parenting Aids category, recognizing
the gadget for exceeding expectations
for nurturing creativity and education
in children and families.
The DaysAgo removes the guesswork
of knowing how many days ago
you opened a food container, and provides
a little sanity for new parents trying
to remember how long it’s been since
they opened new food, expressed milk or
prepared formula. By counting up days, it
can track foods that spoil quickly (such
as baby food, sauces, salsas, and more),
helping families eliminate waste and
save money. Its digital screen can easily
to feel a little
more control
with their knife
and great for the
smaller hand.
Ultra-sharp, rust-proof, will never
brown foods and lightweight, this knife
is perfect for everyday use.
Not all ceramic is created equal, aka:
“The Kyocera Difference: Zirconia 206.”
Kyocera’s proprietary formula, Zirconia
206, is an advanced ceramic that has very
dense particles and extremely tight molecules,
leaving minimal voids. This translates
into a stronger, denser blade that
holds an edge longer than other ceramic
knives. The thinner blade on a Kyocera
Advanced Ceramic knife means minimal
resistance. Clean, precise, less-intrusive
cuts and using less pressure are what
affix to any type of container via magnet,
suction cup or band. It can also be used to
track household chores such as plant
care, health regimens, pet medication,
water filter replacements and any other
repeated task.
“We are thrilled to have the DaysAgo
recognized by Creative Child Magazine’s
awards program,” said Kathleen
Whitehurst, President of Double U
Products, Inc. “We are honored that all
the parents, educators, and education professionals
who review the hundreds of
product submissions chose the DaysAgo
to receive these awards,” she added.
make the Kyocera ceramic
Low Speed Technology System method
which has been shown to preserve more
AN EASY WAY TO BAKE GREEN
Whether you are baking as a career,
hobby, for a social event or simply to satisfy
a craving, keep in mind there are
easy ways to “bake green” and save a few
extra calories while doing so!
Parchment paper has been used in
the kitchen for ages. It eliminates the
need to grease or butter pans. While
this handy kitchen tool is reusable,
parchment paper is generally disposed
of after just one use, wasting tons of
paper every year. In a social climate
where eco-friendly products and
practices are quickly becoming a
necessity, this traditional baking
practice is seemingly negligent. In
recent years, we have seen a major
shift to simplified, ecologically-friendly
baking techniques.
Silicone baking liners are an innovative,
easy substitution for parchment
paper. Like parchment paper, silicone
allows customers to rediscover outdoor
fun and transform any open fire event into
the perfect gathering at home, on the
beach or wherever their travels take them.
Just pour in the kernels, a tablespoon of oil
and take turns shaking over the fire.
The Open Fire Pop has been
designed to be taken outdoors. Weighing
in at only 1.5 lbs., combined with the
quick release, telescoping handle, it
makes packing and storing a breeze.
It is all about convenience. The
popper is safe and easy to use. By
extending the sturdy 2-foot handle you
are sure to keep your hands away from
the heat. The comfortable rubber grip
handle stays cool while offering a slip
resistant hold during popping using the
old-time shake and pop method.
HANNON GROUP INTRODUCES
FASHIONABLE AND AFFORDABLE
LINE OF INSULATED BAGS
New for 2011, Hannon Group Ltd., parent
company for Sachi Insulated Fashion,
introduces a new “Fashion Value” line
called Kora. “We’ve created Kora to give
THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX:
REIMAGINING THE BENTO BOX,
JAPAN’S CLASSIC QUICK LUNCH
Genmert Inc. of Commerce, Calif., introduces
its new line of Mulberry Home
Collection–Bento Boxes.
Bento means convenient lunch to
the Japanese. It is a takeaway-lunch
option that is served in snazzy, compartmentalized
boxes containing a tapas
GERM GUARDIAN ADDS SEVERAL
ULTRASONIC HUMIDIFIERS TO LINEUP
All SKUs Harness The Technology
Of Silver To Fight Growth Of Mildew
& Mold In The Water Tank
Germ Guardian has added several new
models to its line of Ultrasonic
Humidifiers that use Silver Clean technology
to fight the growth of mold and
mildew in the water tank, a common
problem that occurs with traditional
humidification systems. The new models,
and diners on the go. Typically filled
with four or five home-cooked items
eaten at room temperature, a traditional
bento might have rice, a small salad, a
piece of fried chicken or grilled fish, and
a rolled egg omelet. A bento is convenient
to eat from, easy to carry and good
for when you’re in a hurry.
In recent years bento boxes have
with varying features and price points,
also help combat cold symptoms, dry
skin, static electricity and cracked wood.
Using a humidifier is an effective
and affordable way to make sure indoor
home or work humidity levels aren’t too
low, which can dry out skin and mucous
membranes, making one more susceptible
to sickness. However, one concern
associated with humidifiers is that mold
and bacteria can grow in the water tank,
‘BEST OF THE BEST’ PRODUCTS
HONORED FOR INNOVATIVE DESIGN
Just announced, the “Best of the Best”
focus on fun and vibrant patterns and colors.”
rack is a great alternative for the retailers
INNOVATIVE PRODUCT PROVIDES
AN INSTANT FRIDGE MAKEOVER
Do you really need an organized fridge?
The answer is yes! The average family in
North America wastes about $500 per
year on unused and spoiled food. That is
like throwing cash in the trash! Just about
every family has a fridge, and forgotten
leftovers and expired food at the back of
the fridge is a common problem. Not
only a waste of money, lost rotten food at
the back of the fridge stinks and can
cause the spread of mold and mildew, a
smell you may never get rid of. Although
the mildew shouldn’t pose a serious
health hazard, ingestion of expired food
can make you sick. It can also be
unpleasant and embarrassing.
Life-Tamers, Inc. is introducing
the answer—the Fridge-Tamer
Swing-Out Shelf at IHA 2011. Never
lose food buried at the back of your
fridge again! The innovative swingout
tray instantly swings everything
from the back of the fridge to the
front. No more moving and juggling
arms full of stuff from the front while
trying to get to the back. It’s the perfect
solution for quickly finding foods,
resulting in less waste. No more
expired food gone bad, and no more
straining and reaching to get to the
back of the lower tight spots in the
fridge. Keep all your fresh food at
Awards embody three of the strongest consumer
trends, focusing on consumers’
an aisle, since the rack occupies a mere
two foot diameter foot print.
Sachi Insulated fashion remains as
the core line. Sachi’s unique designs
offer several different shapes and sizes in
many colors and patterns, ranging from
the traditional to contemporary. The key
feature in all of the Sachi totes is the ability
to keep hot food hot and cold food
cold with the use of the fully-insulated
thermal lining. This line is truly a balance
of form and function.
In addition to showing both insulated
tote lines at the show, Hannon Group will
display its one-of-a-kind Roasted Garlic
become a source of pride among Japanese
and American mothers alike, inspiring
creative meals made with tools like cookie
cutters and scissors to look like
adorable animals or cartoon characters.
The trend has spread in recent years
thanks to networking sites like MySpace
and Facebook, where people can post pictures
of their bento creations and share
techniques. Not only are these creative
lunch boxes pleasing to the eye but they
are functional as well, offering people of
all ages a healthy alternative to eating out.
Genmert’s Bento Lunch Boxes come
in a single or double stack with multiple
compartments to hold salads, pastas,
sending contaminated air
out into the room.
Silver has been used
and valued for centuries
for its ability to keep food
and drinks fresh and to
prevent certain bacterial
growth. In fact, silver is
known to kill up to 650 species of viruses
and bacteria simply by coming in contact
with them.
The new Germ Guardian Ultrasonic
Humidifiers require little upkeep, with no
filters, wicks or evaporating pads to clean
or replace. And, ultrasonic technology
guarantees a virtually silent operation
your fingertips. Kids and seniors can
easily access their favorite snack.
Four heavy-duty suction cups
securely hold the Fridge-Tamer directly
onto the glass shelf of the fridge. Today’s
busy consumer can quickly install one or
several units for an instant fridge
makeover. The unit will fit in every
fridge level that has a glass shelf. In
wider models, you can fit two beside
each other. It can be installed so the shelf
swings out from the left or right, so customizing
the fridge is a snap.
The Swing-Out Shelf is the inaugural
product which Life-Tamers, Inc. has
developed and marketed through its
Fridge-Tamer category. New products
developed in this category include a
customized accessory with odorabsorbing
qualities to complement the
swing-out shelf, crisper liners to keep
desires for comfort and cleanliness in the
home, health and wellness, and convenience
and simplicity in the kitchen.
BLUEAIR 103: BEST COMPACT UNIT!
The Blueair 103 is the perfect choice for
people with a small room who need to
provide themself or a loved one relief
from allergies, asthma or other lung ailments,
or simply for health-conscious
individuals desiring clean, healthy air for
their home and family.
The Blueair 103 is AHAM-certified
and features HEPAQuiet technology,
which delivers more clean air at a faster
rate with less noise than other air purifiers
on the market.
Design
The union of visually pleasing form and
effective function is a hallmark of
Swedish design, and Blueair 103 is no
exception. The Blueair 103 is designed
for maximum performance in small
rooms. Our Swedish design is not only
attractive but built to last. They are
known for our durable construction. The
Blueair 103 brushed aluminum and filter
protective metal net allows for durability
and environmental protection that produces
no chemical off gassing. The air
purifier housing is easy to clean, and
won't pick up grime and oily stains the
way plastic may.
How It Works
The Blueair 103 Air Purifier takes in polluted
air through an ultra-quiet fan.
Before filtered air leaves the unit it is
charged with negative ions which collide
with and charge airborne particles in the
room. When air is drawn into the room
again, the HEPAQuiet filter traps the
charged particles. The polluted air
becomes purified air, which is virtually
Filter Fit
Blueair 103 with Particle Filter comes
standard and is the ideal choice for allergy
sufferers and other health-conscious
individuals that need high-efficiency particle
Fine polypropylene fibers effectively
capture 99 percent of airborne particles.
The Blueair progressive filter has variable
weave fibers which remove larger
particles first for maximum efficiency
purify the air. Blueair 103 removes every
type of particulate air pollutant, including
CR: We’ve already made some strong
introductions for this year, and we’re
also concentrating on refining existing
collections. Color development has
become a major goal for us, so we’re
watching everything from haute couture
and home textiles to automobile colors
for cues about what’s hot. At the same
time we’re aiming to keep our selections
diverse while retaining that ecointelligent
focus. Our overseas artisan
teams know this is our mindset, so they
are constantly bringing new ideas to the
table for us. Along with our in-house
design and prototyping work this makes
for a healthy design engine and helps
streamline our supply chain. We’re
always looking for materials and products
that are smart, new, beautiful, and
practical. That’s what we want to bring
to market and we’re really optimistic
about 2011!
aerospace engineers. Their initial purpose
was to design, develop, manufacture
and market a novel consumer
kitchen product. After researching
several product ideas, they decided that
America needed a reliable cheese slicer
with a wire cutter. After a year of designing,
prototyping and testing, the Gourmet
Cheese Slicer was born and Prodyne’s
patented design was introduced to the
market in 1972.
Prodyne’s Cheese Slicer quickly
earned recognition for its quality and
DB: When you think about how we typically
do soda, it really is antiquated.
Most people carry home heavy bottles
and cans, which take up precious space
in their refrigerator and cabinets, and
then have to deal with disposing the
containers—most of which go to a landfill.
But with SodaStream, all of this
goes away. No more lugging the drinks
from the store, because now you can
make them yourself. You can also save
up to 70 percent on your beverage bill,
depending on what you drink. And the
hermetically sealed cap keeps the bubbles
fresh for weeks, so there’s no more
flat soda poured down the drain.
SodaStream promotes health and wellness
because it has less sugar, calories
and carbs, and no high fructose corn
function and gained stature as being the
finest available. Prodyne soon
expanded its line to include several
cheese slicer models in different materials,
shapes and sizes.
In the mid-’80s, Prodyne decided to
further expand their product line by
designing and introducing many additional
high quality housewares products.
Their first expanded offerings included
the JUBILEE and ILLUSIONS acrylic
beverage and serveware collections. In
the late ’90s, they introduced the MET-
ALLA collection of stainless steel
pantryware and serveware. A few years
DB: SodaStream is a dream for the environment.
According to Euromonitor,
only 23.1 percent of PET bottles are
recycled in the U.S. This means that
more than 140 billion bottles and cans
end up in the landfill each year, and
more than 330 billion worldwide—
that’s crazy. SodaStream’s reusable bottle
may be used for up to three years, as
many as 50,000 times. This means you
can help reduce the 100 million barrels
of oil and more than 5 million tons of
plastic used in the production of those
disposable bottles. And you can help
eliminate the millions of miles of trucking
and shipping that pollutes our planet
while transporting those bottles. In fact,
here at IHA we’re proud to introduce an
environmental display featuring ‘The
Cage’ at our booth. This exhibit visually
shows the amount of bottles and cans
that are used by an average Chicago
family over five years. It’s shocking.
With SodaStream, most of those 330 billion
bottles and cans wasted globally
ago Prodyne’s ON ICE and ICED acrylic
and stainless steel serveware pieces were
introduced to keep salads, appetizers,
condiments and beverages chilled and
fresh for hours over ice. More recently
Prodyne brought to market its very popular
FRUIT INFUSION Pitcher and this
year they are introducing their ICED
FRUIT INFUSION Pitcher, a new combo
pitcher that both infuses and chills.
Today Prodyne is proud to offer
more than 300 different products consisting
of a wide assortment of kitchenware,
barware, wine accessories and serveware
in acrylic, stainless steel, wood and other
