Life&Style this month previews the upcoming programmes for

Drama
Santa Monika
The third series promises new intrigue
as the story is now set in both the
Correctional Facility as well as a
half-way house. This latter venue was
the brainchild of former inmate Connie
Seguna and devised as a venue to
house ex-prisoners, as well as women
with social problems. Unfortunately
Connie loses her life in an accident, only
a few days before realising her dream.
The task is left in the hands of her sister
Evelyn (Norma Cristina) who takes on
the challenge with another friend, Santa
Monika’s prison warden, Miss Catherine
(Vanessa Cassar).
Evelyn also promises Connie before
dying that she will take care of her
only daughter, Samantha (Dorianne
Bonanno). But things quickly go wrong.
Financial problems soon erupt, and
Samantha refuses to accept her aunt.
Jessie, another former inmate, is also
released from prison and is out to stir
up more problems for Evelyn. In the
coming episodes, we also meet new
characters who interact with Evelyn’s
life; one unexpected visitor at the halfway
house threatens her safety.
In the meantime, things back at Santa
Monika prison seem much calmer since
George Said is reinstated as Director.
But will they last New troubles lie
ahead. What he doesn’t yet know is that
former prison warden Joanne Milton,
now serving a prison sentence, is in
fact his sister. What would happen
if someone spilled the beans Surely
someone like Charles (Frederick Testa)
would jump at such an opportunity.

Gheruq
Gheruq is about a Maltese family in a
rural part of a local village. Bennard
is a farmer who has tilled the land
for many years hoping that his land
would one day be inherited by future
generations. Many rural areas were
built up in the name of progress over
the years. But Bennard hoped his land
would be spared and be kept intact.
He and his sister Salvina keep a deep
family secret. Was Bennard a simple
farmer or was there more than meets
the eye The story is set before the
Second World War at a high-society
residence. Baron Anton DeGiovanni
is a very disciplined father and his
family’s honour is always a priority over
everything else. One of the servants in
the house, Marjanna, falls in love with
the Baron’s son Enrico. Marjanna’s
pregnancy changes the young couple’s
passionate affair. The Baron forsees the
mishap about to befall the family and
its ties with other nobility, and orders
his wife to fire Marjanna. But Enrico will
not abandon his first love. He is faced
with choosing between love and noble
inheritance. After walking out of his
father’s household, the couple move into
a farmhouse. In the midst of the war, in
a common shelter, Bennard is born.
Enrico dies during the war and his
father regrets his previous decision. He
wants to make amends by giving his
grandson the land his own son was to
inherit. When Bennard grows up and
learns of his past, he is adamant to
keep the land in its natural state. But
‘progress’ triumphs over traditional
values, friends become foes and life
changes overnight.

Ta’ Horrox Borrox
Ta’ Horrox Borrox is the family nickname
of Filomen (Gemma Portelli), her brother
Patist (Joe Attard) and her daughter
Sunta (Nadette de Carlo). After a fire
at her home, Filomen and her daughter
are forced to take up residence with her
brother. Living with the family is also
six-year old Jean (Jean Claude Calleja)
who was brought to live with them by
Sunta. During the last episode Filomen
was preparing for her wedding with
Valent (Charles Thake).
More comedy is in store, when Filomena,
the autocrat, gives family and friends
detailed orders. However, plenty of
problems are in store – with tiffs with
the Parish Priest (Leslie Gladwish). She
also bullied the Mayor (Joanne Calleja)
into hiring the local council’s hall as her
reception venue.
More mayhem arises when Sunta’s
fiancée, Freddie tal-haxix (Pierre
Calleja) is left with the task of booking
the couple’s honeymoon. Over at the
convent, everything seems to be working
out just fine.
Mother Superior (Connie Azzopardi)
handed over the running of the convent
to Sr. Pawlina (Karen Scicluna). Things
go wrong, when Sr Pawlina, on a short
break, leaves the convent in the hands
of Sr. Rosaria (Alexia Agius). The
Sacristan (Manwel Brincat) is showing
a keen interest in… Lonza (Sophie
Camilleri) the village gossipmonger…
who is keen to spread lies on many
stories – will Filomen marry Valent after
all Sundays at 20.30

Kollox Sibt
sorpriza
The fourth edition of Kollox Sibt,
voted as the most popular Saturday
afternoon show, will be on air once
again as from October, this time in the
evenings! Kollox Sibt is hosted once
again by the popular and much loved TV
personalities Karl & Romina Bonaci &
Ryan Borg, accompanied by the resident
orchestra under the baton of leading
maestro Dominic Galea. Lawrence Gray,
Klinsmann Coleiro, Eleonor Cassar, Joe
Cutajar & Rosman Pace are the show’s
resident singers who will be there to
sing the evening away. This year they
will be joined by Isabelle, Kristabell and
Dario, the last two being participants
in the well known programme ‘L-isfida’
on Net Tv. The Yada Dance company
are behind the stunning choreography
of the Kollox Sibt dancers, The main
element of this variety show is 100%
entertainment, where one can enjoy
live songs accompanied by great music
and dancing. There are also sketches
provided by the comic characters of ‘Lina,
Pina & Salvina’ being played by Hector
Bruno, Karl Bonaci & Augusto Cardinali.
The programme also includes fashion
tips, gossip, and audience participation.
During last years’ edition of Kollox Sibt,
around Lm300,000 worth of prize were
won by the viewers, participating during
the weekly competitions. Every week,
special guests are invited, and popular
personalities make themselves known
better by the general public. This year,
a new section is introduced – “Sorpriza”
- where viewers will be able to surprise
their friends or relatives with a particular

Kontra l-Hin Party of Five Dawson’s Creek Another Life !Hola!

Following a string of successful
entertaining and spectacular shows
in various theatrical spaces on the
Maltese Islands, and having wooed
thousands of viewers on NET Television
for the past three years on another
variety programme, Spiteri Lucas
Entertainment will start a new venture
in October with their own television
show to be aired every Saturday
afternoon on NET Television.“Sas-
Sitta”, as its name implies, will be
transmitted “live” from 2pm till 6pm.
The programme hosted by popular
entertainer J. Anvil and charming model
and TV personality Mireille Bonello will
feature, among others, the Mark Spiteri
Lucas Show Band together with resident
singers Natasha and Charlene Grima,
pop tenor Ludwig Galea, as well as
charming and versatile singer Chiara. In
“Sas-Sitta”, family entertainment will
be the order of the day. Viewers will get
the chance to win thousands of Liri in
prizes ranging from goods and services
to weekend breaks and holidays abroad.
There will also be humorous acts by
popular comedian and puppeteer Toni
Busuttil (better known with NET TV
televiewers as Toni tal-Vann) and magic
and illusion by Lorenzo.
Other interesting spots include the
Kids’ Corner hosted by Brooke Borg in
which young televiewers will learn while
having fun; “X’se nsajru” with well
known chef Ray Fauzza and Christabelle
Borg, cultural spots and general
knowledge, gossip, nostalgia, religious

Quiz
Kontra l-Hin
“Kontra l-Hin” is not a game show
but a quiz show which tests the
knowledge and sharpness of both the
competitors and the viewers at home.
The popularity of this quiz show is
not surprising. Firstly, it is neither a
syndicated quiz nor a copied one. It is a
totally original concept. The questions
asked are manageable. The guests
on the programme all enjoy helping
the competitors win their daily money
prizes. The presenter, Carlo Borg Bonaci
and his “side-kick” Tony Barbaro
Sant, who acts as judge on the show,
are inimitable characters and their
exchanges are always witty with each
trying to prove his humour is drier!
Adults enjoy the show because of its
general knowledge. Parents enjoy
the show because they’re relieved
their kids are watching something
with educational content – discreet
yet present. Children enjoy the show
because they love to learn, and answer
questions. The fact that the final
questions are asked twice does tend
to drive the information home to the
viewers. NET TV has distributed over Lm
40,000 in prizes over two years and this
year, the prize fund is being increased
in various ways. The winner of each
show will take something home even
if he or she only answers 2 questions
of the final game. The prize fund for
each show is €2,500 (Lm 1,073.25)
which is the amount which may be won
by a competitor answering all final 12
questions. The last show, planned for
June 2008, is offering a final prize of
€15,000 (Lm 6,439.50).

After the tragic death of his parents,
Bailey (the second eldest), his two
younger sisters and their baby brother
are left in the care of the eldest but

Salinger kids to pull together as they
tackle modern-day adult life and the
challenges of growing-up.

five Salingers - brothers and sisters
determined to stay together following
the tragic loss of their parents. The
one-hour drama focuses on the way
the family uses the creativity, humour,
and love instilled by their parents to
deal with the conflicts and demands of

Dawson’s Creek
This award-winning series that
became the template for teen dramas
chronicles the coming-of-age journey
of four friends in a small New England
town. The series focuses on the lifelong
friendship between Dawson (James Van
Der Beek), an aspiring filmmaker, and
Joey (Katie Holmes), whose difficult
childhood forced her to grow up too
quickly. As their relationship swings
between longtime companions and love
interests, their bond is tested by Joey’s

a different look. The team of beauty

The programme Niltaqghu will be

designs, stains and mostly the real

The programme will kick off with a
daily phone-in game followed by the
even more popular cooking slot. As
in past years, Sellili’s kitchen will

recipes. After last year’s huge success,

on-line. Also synonymous with Sellili are
the topics which Claudette discusses
with her guests. This year we will see

Magazine
“House and Fashion Magazine” is
produced and presented by Carmen
Mifsud and it is a continuation as
well as an enhancement over last
year’s program. “House and Fashion
Magazine” will be looking at House and
Fashion current trends. Fashion and
trends affect our body, appearance as
well as our habitat and environment.
Carmen believes these two go in tandem
as often the influence of one becomes
evident in the other. Carmen also gives
a boost to the environmental issue,
where she demonstrates making use of
recycled products to create her house
decorations in the crafts and hobby
area. “House and Fashion Magazine”
will also deal with the subject of
Wedding Preparations as the bride’s and
groom’s houses are an important factor.
Carmen will advise the best choices for
furnishings to work in harmony with the
character and dress colours of the bride
or groom. Guests and speakers will
contribute by giving our viewers loads of
tips and ideas on House and Fashion.
This year’s house make-over will

Chatroom
The discussions on Chatroom will
continue, this time every Wednesday
night. The same familiar youths on the
programme last season will be back
with more arguments. There will also
be some new faces as well. During
this season, a resident youth band
will also join the team to spice up the
discussion. Through their arguments
based on a variety of contemporary
themes, televiewers get familiar with
youths’ views and opinions, dreams and
fears. What makes this programme very
interesting is that all these youths come
from different backgrounds and all
have their own unique personalities. In
the studio there will also be interviews
with guests from different fields to
strengthen the discussions.Presented by

Haddiehor
Haddiehor now in its fourth year , will
change its format thus staying fresh
and relevant. But the message remains
the same – that God is at hand if we
want to live a happier life.
Next year, the Catholic Church is
dedicating the year to the relevance
and knowledge of the Bible. So we
are taking this opportunity to make
the writings of the old testament and
the new testament, accessible also
today through dramatizations of the
various episodes which happened 2000
years ago. The treatment for these
dramas will be given a modern day
feel to portray the same dilemmas and
experiences man goes through today.
The programme emphasizes that
through a good understanding of the
bible, one can hear God’s words of
advice in particular situations.
This year Fr Marcello Ghirlando will be
accompanied by Dr Mark Xuereb - a
Physchiatrist who together with other
guests in the studio, will analyse and
discuss the various topics being
presented in these programmes.

Wheelspin
Once again, Wheelspin returns to our
screens on Net TV as of 7 th October
2007. As in previous years Wheelspin

that arrive on our island as well as
other vehicles such as classic cars

and transformed by local enthusiasts.
Besides all this we will give information
of all that is happening in the motoring
world both locally and abroad and we
will have more motoring news than ever

Is-Seklu XX
The second series of ‘Dak kien is-Seklu
XX’ is due back on NET TV this autumn.
This nostalgia-based show is aimed
at presenting memories of the 20 th
century to viewers and each programme
will concentrate on a short period of
years from that century – remembering
how life was at the time, what the
important events were, what inventions
came about, the life and style of
various personalities from the political,
entertainment and sporting world.
The first series took us down memory
lane until the end of World War II. The
second series starts when peace railed
in in Europe at the start of 1946. Great
changes have occurred since then both
in Malta and in the world – this second
series is focusing on: change - change
in lifestyle, change in attitude, change
in politics. Vinnie Vella Jr and his band
together with resident singer Fiona will
once again provide the “sound track”
to the 20 th century and the programme
will be presented by Stephanie Spiteri
who will host various guests to guide
us through the second part of the 20 th

Replay
You can’t mention Maltese football
without mentioning the sports
programme Replay! Out of Net TV’s
coming schedule, Replay is the longestrunning
programme having been
produced for the past eight years. What
has been encouraging throughout the
years is the way the programme has
attracted new and increased audiences
every Sunday night. Last season Replay
didn’t feature local football, but this
time the Premier division league
is back! Moreover, Replay will also
highlight international football leagues.
Replay owes its popularity to the
fact that it is an original concept
programme. This year, Net Television’s
sports programme will feature special
features from abroad, including
interviews with Maltese football players
playing with foreign teams, meetings
with famous foreign personalities
and more. But that’s not all – chat,
interviews with leading sports figures
and controversial issues will be aired to
keep Replay as fresh as ever.

The award winning sports journalist
Charles Camenzuli is back with another
edition of Sport Xtra. Sport Xtra remains
the only programme in Malta which
gives a voice to around 40 national
sports associations covering their
participation both in Malta and abroad.
In this series, the programme will
be looking towards the Beijing 2008
Ollympic Games, where Charles
Camenzuli will be giving details and
information regarding the athlete’s
preparation in view of the Games.
Sport Xtra remains the programme
with exclusive information of what is
happening within the International
federations and International Olympic
Committee. It remains as well the
programme which generates new
interest in sport through its open
discussions covering various topics
- from doping in sport, women’s
participation, physical education,
sports nutrition to financing. Sport
Xtra continues with the series ‘ A Life
in Sports’ where televiewers have the
chance to meet athletes and officials
who have contributed towards the

The Minibugz team is busy preparing
for the upcoming winter schedule. From
October there will be new games, and
also a new character, Ewreljus will be

Euro currency. This year’s Minibugz will
also feature new videos and songs.

Breakfast Show
La Qomna, QOMNA
Waking up will never as easy as from
next October. La Qomna, QOMNA as
the name implies will make sure that
once our eyes are open we wake up
fully geared up for the day ahead. What
influences our mood throughout the day
will be completely in the hands of the
programme’s hosts Jean Claude Micallef
and Louise Tedesco.
The duo will kick off your day at 06:45
filling viewers with the latest. In fact La
Qomna, QOMNA will incorporate live NET
NEWS updates, a constant traffic round
up and 2 hours of fun and informative
material that will cover topics from
social issues to health and family
matters, personalities, as well as gossip
and trivia. In a nutshell Jean Claude
