Schools need to make a conscious <strong>de</strong>cision to create learning experiences that<br />
foster inclusiveness, <strong>de</strong>velop appreciation for differences and provi<strong>de</strong> children with<br />
opportunities to help each other. Through vi<strong>de</strong>o clips, partner work and dialogue we will<br />
discuss proven strategies to build connectedness through:<br />

Providing opportunities for stu<strong>de</strong>nts to collaborate and help<br />

Developing opportunities for stu<strong>de</strong>nt autonomy, responsibility, and choice<br />
You will leave this session with:<br />

research to support implementing a caring school community<br />

an assessment of your school’s current community<br />
●<br />
a strengthened vision and possibility for your caring school community<br />
This topic will be presented in two back -to -back sessions. We ask that you<br />
join us for both blocks of time to get the full impact of the presentation.<br />
Session One will answer the question: How do you want your school community to<br />
be We will help you create a vision and you will complete an assessment of your<br />
current school community <strong>de</strong>termining what is your biggest challenge. In addition<br />
we will explore the core elements of a caring school community.<br />
Session Two will answer the question: What does the research show about how<br />
school climate impacts stu<strong>de</strong>nt success and where might your find opportunities<br />
for greater stu<strong>de</strong>nt voice in your school This session will use vi<strong>de</strong>o to show<br />
how several teachers have built opportunities into the school day for increased<br />
stu<strong>de</strong>nt voice.<br />
