Schools need to make a conscious decision to create learning experiences that
foster inclusiveness, develop appreciation for differences and provide children with
opportunities to help each other. Through video clips, partner work and dialogue we will
discuss proven strategies to build connectedness through:

Cultivating respectful and supportive relationships

Providing opportunities for students to collaborate and help
●
Developing opportunities for student autonomy, responsibility, and choice
You will leave this session with:

an assessment of your school’s current community

a strengthened vision and possibility for your caring school community
This topic will be presented in two back -to -back sessions. We ask that you
join us for both blocks of time to get the full impact of the presentation.
Session One will answer the question: How do you want your school community to
be We will help you create a vision and you will complete an assessment of your
current school community determining what is your biggest challenge. In addition
we will explore the core elements of a caring school community.
Session Two will answer the question: What does the research show about how
school climate impacts student success and where might your find opportunities
for greater student voice in your school This session will use video to show
how several teachers have built opportunities into the school day for increased
student voice.
