October has arrived and<br />
with it comes cool<br />
mornings and warm<br />
afternoon. Many students<br />
have begun to wear gloves<br />
and fleece jackets during<br />
their early morning walks to school – a sure sign<br />
that AUTUMN has indeed arrived.<br />
Kindergarten Registration 2013-2014<br />
Registration for students<br />
who will be attending<br />
kindergarten in the<br />
school year 2013-2014<br />
will take place at your<br />
zone school during the<br />
week of October 9 th – 12 th . If you have a child<br />
who will be five by the end of December 2013<br />
please bring proof of immunization and your<br />
child’s birth certificate to <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> <strong>School</strong> and<br />
register your child between the hours of 8:00<br />
am and 4:00 pm.<br />
On Monday, October 22 nd we will hold a special<br />
WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN session for new<br />
parents who have a child entering kindergarten<br />
in September 2013. This meeting will be held in<br />
the <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> <strong>School</strong> gymnasium and will begin<br />
at 6:00 pm.<br />
If you know of anyone in your neighborhood<br />
who has a child beginning kindergarten and<br />
MAY NOT know about<br />
registration please feel<br />
free to pass this<br />
information along. IF<br />
anyone has any questions<br />
they can call the school at<br />

Safe <strong>School</strong>s Week<br />
Children across our district will be participating<br />
in Safe <strong>School</strong>s Week from October 1 st – 5 th .<br />
Both <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> and <strong>Liverpool</strong> have special<br />
activities planned for the week. Please note<br />
that when these safety exercises are explained<br />
to students we take their age into account and<br />
present it in a positive fashion. If you have any<br />
questions please feel free to contact your<br />
child’s teacher or a member of the<br />
administration. The week’s events will proceed<br />

Halloween Howl<br />
<strong>Liverpool</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>School</strong> will<br />
hold their annual Halloween<br />
Howl on Friday, October 26 th<br />
from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. This<br />
event provides fun, exciting activities for<br />
all. Please watch your<br />
son/daughter’s book bag for
more information to follow and how you can<br />
become involved in this wonderful fundraising<br />
event.<br />
<strong>School</strong> Closures<br />
<strong>School</strong>s will be closed on Monday, October 8 th<br />
for Thanksgiving and on Tuesday, October 9 th<br />
for a Professional Learning Day. The theme of<br />
this professional learning day is INCLUSION.<br />
<strong>School</strong> Fundraising Orders<br />
Thank you goes out to all<br />
families who participated in this<br />
year’s fundraisers at <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong><br />
and <strong>Liverpool</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>School</strong>s.<br />
The due date for <strong>Liverpool</strong> has<br />
been extended until after Wednesday, October<br />
10 th . This is the same day the orders are due<br />
back at <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong>.<br />
The money raised will go towards providing<br />
special learning opportunities such as drama<br />
presentations for our students. THANKS<br />
AGAIN!<br />
Mystery Reader<br />
If you enjoy reading to children and would like<br />
to participate in our mystery reader program at<br />
<strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> <strong>School</strong> please contact Jennifer Ward<br />
at iennifer.ward@nbed.nb.ca . Each month we<br />
invite a parent,<br />
grandparent, aunt or uncle<br />
to read to our kindergarten<br />
and grade one students.<br />

Terry Fox Walk<br />
<strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> and <strong>Liverpool</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>School</strong> staff and<br />
students recently participated in the Terry Fox<br />
Walk. Our friends at <strong>Liverpool</strong> walked to <strong>Forest</strong><br />
<strong>Hill</strong> <strong>School</strong> to join us on a<br />
walk around the playground.<br />
Between the two schools<br />
close to $300 was raised to<br />
support cancer research.<br />
Cross Country Update<br />
The cross country season has begun with many<br />
of our <strong>Liverpool</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>School</strong> students<br />
participating.<br />
Congratulations to all for<br />
their hard work. The race this<br />
week will be held at New<br />
Maryland <strong>Elementary</strong> <strong>School</strong>; followed on<br />
October 10 th at Wilmot. The final race of the<br />
season will be a district meet held at<br />
Nashwaaksis Middle <strong>School</strong>.<br />
Upcoming Home & <strong>School</strong> Meetings<br />
The <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> Home & <strong>School</strong> Association met<br />
last Monday, September 24 th with an<br />
overwhelming turnout. It was awesome to see<br />
so many interested parents! Planning began for<br />
our upcoming Holiday Blitz and a new executive<br />

PSSC Meeting<br />
The <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong>/<strong>Liverpool</strong> <strong>Street</strong><br />
<strong>School</strong> Parent <strong>School</strong> Support<br />
Committee recently held its first<br />
meeting of the year. Nancy
Schuttenbeld was elected chair. A discussion<br />
was held by the PSSC members on establishing<br />
three priorities for the year. Please be watching<br />
the school’s websites for the details of this<br />
important planning meeting. Our next meeting<br />
is planned for Monday, October 29 th at 7:00 pm.<br />
<strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> <strong>School</strong> Adds One More!<br />
The staff welcomes another member to their<br />
team of educators on Monday, October 1 st .<br />
Due to the large number of students in both<br />
kindergarten and grade<br />
one this year we<br />
have added an<br />
additional class.<br />
Ms. Jessica White will be teaching a combined<br />
kindergarten grade one class this year. It is very<br />
exciting to see our student population grow!<br />
Apple Picking Trip<br />
The grade one students at <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> <strong>School</strong> will<br />
be going on an apple picking field trip on<br />
Tuesday, October 2 nd . The students have<br />
already started preparing for this trip through<br />
writing lessons in their classrooms. This will<br />
continue when they return by adding all kinds<br />
of details to their stories.<br />

October <strong>School</strong> Spirit Assemblies<br />
<strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> <strong>School</strong> will<br />
hold their monthly<br />
school spirit assembly<br />
on Wednesday, Oct.<br />
24 th . We will also be<br />
introducing our first of the 7 Healthy Habits.<br />
This is a new program we are beginning this<br />
year at <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Hill</strong>.<br />
On Tuesday, October 30 th <strong>Liverpool</strong> <strong>Street</strong><br />
<strong>School</strong> will hold their monthly school spirit<br />
assembly. These assemblies give staff and<br />
students a wonderful opportunity to come<br />
together to show support to one another.<br />
Field Trip to CFB Gagetown<br />
On Thursday, October 18 th Mr. Wiggins and<br />
Miss Holland will be going on a field trip to CFB<br />
Gagetown to explore<br />
careers, WW1 and WW2.<br />
Both classes are holding<br />
popcorn sales in order to<br />
cover the cost of this<br />
exciting trip.<br />
