9.1 Interaction with Emergency Management
Parks Victoria recognises that the development of this plan will not completely
eliminate risks associated with port activities. To counteract this Parks Victoria has in
place an Emergency Management Framework and incident response procedures and
processes to manage incidents.
Under the Emergency Management Act (1986) Parks Victoria is responsible for
responding to certain emergencies as a support agency. As part of Parks Victoria’s
duty of care as outlined in the Emergency Management Manual Victoria (Department
of Justice), Emergency Management Plans have been prepared for each of the Parks
Victoria management areas within the local port of Port Phillip (Parks Victoria c-h,
2003)).
In addition Parks Victoria has in place an Incident Response procedure in which staff
are required to document and report incidents that occur on Parks Victoria estate.
This outlines the process to undertake action and then to communicate the details of
the incident within Parks Victoria.
