Traffic took a hit at this<br />
year’s Percussive Arts<br />
Society International<br />
Convention (PASIC),<br />
but numbers can lie.<br />
Optimism filled the halls of the<br />
Indiana Convention Center in<br />
Indianapolis from Nov. 10–13,<br />
as drum suppliers reported up<br />
sales and high expectations for<br />
their new gear.<br />

Shawn Lafrenz, senior marketing<br />
manager for Pearl Drums,<br />
agreed. “It seems like people are<br />
focusing more on buying, especially<br />
quality instruments,” he<br />
said. “We are very pleased with<br />
how everything is going for us.”<br />
Print music publisher Hal<br />
Leonard has also seen a continuous<br />
rise in sales, especially in its<br />
drums segment.<br />
“There has been a steady increase<br />
with the drum books,” said<br />
Marilyn Fleenor, manager of workshops<br />
and clinics for Hal Leonard.<br />
