<strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>Calgary</strong> had another exciting year in <strong>2012</strong>.<br />
As Chair of the Board of Directors, and President<br />
and CEO, we have the privilege of being involved<br />
in a variety of ways with initiatives and projects.<br />
The year began with the grand opening of the<br />
Saddletowne <strong>YMCA</strong> in the Genesis Centre of<br />
Community Wellness in northeast <strong>Calgary</strong>.<br />
This amazing complex is home to more than<br />
5,000 <strong>YMCA</strong> members, countless drop-in users,<br />
the North East Centre of Community Society<br />
soccer fields and recreation spaces, visitors to<br />
the <strong>Calgary</strong> Public Library, and the accessible<br />
community space of 1000 Voices. This facility is<br />
becoming a true gathering place for community<br />
members, and we are proud to be a partner.<br />
The fourth quarter of <strong>2012</strong> began with the<br />
opening of the <strong>YMCA</strong> in South Health Campus.<br />
This state of the art health campus provides<br />
the <strong>YMCA</strong>, U of C, and Alberta Health Services<br />
with unique opportunities to come together in<br />
the Wellness Centre to meet community needs,<br />
campus staff needs, as well as patient needs.<br />
This vision focuses on holistic health and wellness,<br />
and we continue to explore the myriad of ways<br />
the <strong>YMCA</strong> fits in the continuum of patient care<br />
and community wellness.<br />

In between these two openings, the association<br />
continued to serve its many members, program<br />
participants, and drop-in users. Thanks to our<br />
generous donors, we raised over $1.4M in our<br />
Strong Kids Campaign to support more than<br />
15,000 children and youth learn and grow at<br />
<strong>YMCA</strong>—15,000 who otherwise could not afford<br />
to be at the <strong>YMCA</strong>. We are proud to be able to<br />
contribute to the health and well-being of our<br />
children and youth.<br />
Our strategic planning task force embarked upon<br />
a process to create a vision that will guide our<br />
work over the next 10 years. The vision is that<br />
“Our communities are healthy and vibrant<br />
because children, youth, and adults belong, grow,<br />
thrive, and lead”.<br />
We look forward to the next phase of work that<br />
tasks us to understand community needs,<br />
provide services to meet those needs, and work<br />
with partners and stakeholders to build healthy<br />
communities.<br />
