Clausius Inequality The Second Law of Thermodynamics often leads to expressions that involve inequalities. An irreversible refrigerator or a heat pump has a lower coefficient of performance (COP) than a reversible one operating between the same temperature limits. Clausius Inequality (Cont’d) Clausius inequality is expressed as: Q T The cyclic integral of δQ/T is always less than or equal to zero. 0 Integration is performed over whole cycle.
