The Purpose of a Qualified Products
List Program
The QPL Program provides a uniform method for qualifying
products in accordance with industry standards and
requirements. This means that a supplier in Los Angeles can
be judged on an equal basis with a supplier in Beijing.
The QPL Program is industry-managed by individual
Qualified Product Groups (QPG) and governed by a
Qualified Products Management Council (QPMC) comprised
of industry and government representatives. Industry
involvement at every level makes this program uniquely
suited to meet industry needs.
A documented application procedure provides
manufacturers/suppliers with the process for having their
products listed on a PRI QPL. Transparent protocols and
data availability make this program simple for all users.
The Benefits of the Qualified Products
List Program
The Qualified Products List Program provides benefits to the
Users and Suppliers.
Users, such as the OEMs, Government and airlines, benefit from:
• Reduced second party testing;
• Reporting of test results;
• Maximizing internal resources and competition
without the loss of quality;
• Avoidance of costs associated with maintaining
individual QPLs.
Suppliers benefit from the Qualified Products List Program by:
• Ensuring fairness among competitors;
• Utilizing a consistent approach to product qualification
and initial qualification data provided to a wider
industry base
• Eliminating redundant testing and qualification processes.

Industry Wide Alert System
Clear and honest communication is the key to guaranteeing quality in these
industries. The QPL has established a system of advising QPMC and QPG
members about the state of conformance of products listed on the PRI-QPL.
When PRI is notified by a supplier, user or auditor of a possible material discrepancy
on a QPL listed product, the QPMC and QPG are immediately notified. This
notification can save users untold dollars in recalls and rework. Corrective actions
are communicated to the QPG until the issue is resolved. Once the QPG approves
the corrective action, the QPMC is notified.
The Value of the Industry Wide Alert System
Manufacturer conducted the wrong tests which resulted in the recall of 7 out of 11
products being installed on commercial aircraft.
Aircraft fuel systems component was manufactured from the wrong type of material
resulting in parts being pulled from inventory preventing it from being installed on an
aircraft. If installed, it could have resulted in an engine fire.
Approved QPL parts that previously passed final inspection were pulled during
a Nadcap Audit compliance job and were found to contain defects resulting in
removal from the QPL, preventing an escape.
Supplier reported failure of their required periodic testing resulting in PRI notifying
QPMC members. An investigation was launched by the QPG to determine cause of
the failure.

How does the QPL Program Operate
Industry determines need for a Qualified Products Program.
A Qualified Products Management Council is established consisting of end user
industry experts to monitor and oversee the qualification program.
A Standards Development Organization, i.e., SAE, publishes a specification
containing the QPL requirement.
A Qualified Products Group (QPG) consisting of industry and government technical
experts established to develop the Procedures and Evaluation Process for listing
materials on the Qualified Products List.
Suppliers submit their proposed product test plan to be reviewed and
approved by the QPG.
Supplier submits test documentation.
QPG reviews data and approves products to be listed on the PRI QPL.
