NEWSPAPERS

Multiple web newspaper printing requires roll and web
handling that easily processes dozens of rolls per hour. The
key requirement is that deadlines are consistently met to
the hour because old news is no news. MEGTEC supplies
more splicers to newspapers than any other company.
They are the leading supplier of both zero- and matchspeed
models. MEGTEC is also the leader in introducing
semi-commercial heatset drying to newspapers.
This convergence of technologies has been driven by the
need for newspapers to deliver value-added products
printed on coated paper; and to print semi-commercial
products to increase press utilization. The company has
many hundreds of heatset systems running on hybrid
newspaper presses.

Heatset printing is a complex and demanding process
that requires all components to be perfectly integrated,
and to deliver premium performance with minimal waste.
MEGTEC is the world’s leading supplier of two essential
sub-systems: roll-to-web handling and heatset dryingoxidation.
Robust reliability is essential for 24/7 operation
along with minimum waste and energy consumption,
and full environmental compliance. The range of splicers,
dryers and web conditioning handles all applications from
16 to 72 page presses with web widths up to 2080 mm
(82”), and roll weights up to 3200 kg (7050 lbs) running at
17m/s (3350 fpm). Other applications include insert and
book presses.

from zero speed to the world’s most
advanced match-speed splicer. These

breaks, simple splice preparation
and low maintenance. Roll handling
systems provide automatic or manual
roll transport, splice preparation and
loading.
MEGTEC core driven automatic turret
rewinders are used for continuous
reel to reel production producing a
high quality, uniformly wound and
low waste roll. The RW50B provides
the advantage of a compact and
cost effective solution for lower
speed applications while the RW70B
gives customers the ability to run at
high-speeds for 16-page commercial
applications.

Dual-Dry® dryer series
The patented and proven Dual-Dry® air nozzle system ensures
heat and mass transfer performance and web stability – even with
heavy ink coverage on lightweight papers at low web tension.
The Dual-Dry® III
is a stand-alone dryer for multi-web installations generally
connected to a central independent regenerative thermal
oxidizer (RTO).
The Dual-Dry® TNV
has an integrated thermal oxidizer that provides a cleaning
performance to meet the strictest environmental regulations.
Low energy consumption is ensured with a high efficiency heat
exchanger and the advanced concentration control ERSplus.
UV and IR drying
MEGTEC also offers combination dryers
with IR plus convection heat and mass
transfer for applications in water-based
coating and print applications. For curable
inks and coatings, MEGTEC offers
UV curing systems in conjunction with
web path management. For carton
materials with one-sided print configurations,
MEGTEC’s platen dryer provides
effective solvent removal while retaining
sheet moisture and anti-web curl
characteristics.

Pollution control
For book, semi commercial and
commercial heatset applications,
MEGTEC offers the compact
Millennium® (2 can) and Epsilon® (3
can) Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers
(RTOs) for flow capacities of 5000 to
50,000 Nm3/hr (3000 to 30,000 scfm).
The high thermal efficiency of up to
98% allows for auto-thermal operations
at 1-2 g/Nm3 (4-6% LEL) of solvent and
up to 25% LEL by using the hot-side
bypass while meeting strict regulatory
emission compliance.
Solvent recovery
MEGTEC’s carbon adsorption systems
recover up to 99% of solvent emissions
from solvent-using processes for re-use
reducing costs by virtually eliminating
solvent expense, while exceeding regulatory
requirements.
Efficiency & optimization services
The modernization or upgrade of an existing press line can
extend the economic life of press assets by many years, improve
productivity, reduce maintenance and protect against obsolescence.
A preventive maintenance plan, equipment optimization program
and incorporation of the most current upgrades can save energy and
reduce down time.
