SUPER TEAM
Player
of the year
Sean O’Keefe
Hudson High
Senior, Forward
One of the most prolific scorers in
Central Mass., O’Keefe lifted Hudson
to the Central Mass. Division 3 title
after scoring 20 goals and adding 25
assists. Because of his accomplishments
on the ice, O’Keefe was named
the Hometeam Magazine Hockey Player
of the Year. O’Keefe finished with 152
career points and earned his second
consecutive spot on the Telegram &
Gazette Super Team. O’Keefe was a
two-year captain for coach Mike Nanartowich and was
named to the Central Mass. All-Star team the past two
seasons. O’Keefe helped Hudson to the Division 3 final
the past three years and said this year’s victory over
Shrewsbury — O’Keefe notched three assists — was his
most memorable sports moment as Hudson scored twice
in a 10-second span. The 5-foot-8, 160-pound O’Keefe is
hoping to attend Northeastern or Connecticut. He is the
son of Cathy and James O’Keefe of Hudson.
Dave Finlay
Shrewsbury High
Senior, Defense
Finlay captained the Colonials to the Division 3
district final, notching three goals and 16
assists for coach John Binkoski. Finley was
named to the Central Mass. All-Star team and
wraps up his career as the all-time leader in
penalty minutes for the Colonials. Finlay, who
will captain the lacrosse team, helped Shrewsbury
capture the 2009 Division 3 state title.
Finlay’s work on the Shrewsbury blue line propelled
the Colonials to the Roy Conference title
each of the past three seasons, and he finished his career with
four goals and 33 assists. Finlay was a Hockey Night In Boston
All-Star in 2009, and his father was a T&G All-Star goalie for Marlboro
High. He’s the son of Danielle and Paul Finlay of Shrewsbury.
Steven Iacaboni
Wachusett Regional
Junior, Forward
The 6-foot Iacaboni was one of the most
dynamic scorers in the area, earning team
MVP honors and a spot on the Central Mass.
All-Star team after scoring 17 goals for the Mountaineers
in the regular season. Iacaboni helped
Wachusett to an 11-7-3 mark and a spot in the
Division 3 playoffs before losing to eventual
champion Hudson. He will be a captain next
winter for coach Matt Lane. Iacaboni earned the
Seventh Player Award as a freshman for the
Mountaineers. Also a standout lacrosse player, Iacaboni was on
the honorable mention team last year. Iacaboni feels winning the
team MVP award as a junior was his most memorable sports
moment. He is the son of Merilou and Michael Iacaboni of Sterling.
Nick Carter
Oakmont Regional
Senior, Forward
The 6-foot-1 Carter served as
Oakmont’s captain for the past
two seasons, helping the Spartans
to the Central Mass. Division 3A
championship as a junior and following
that with the Central/West Division
3A title this season. Carter
called this year’s state championship
his most memorable sports
moment. Carter scored 23 goals
and added 21 assists in the regular season to lead the
Coughlin Conference in scoring and surpassed the
100-point plateau for his Spartans career. Carter was
named to the Central Mass. All-Star team this year.
Carter enjoys playing dek hockey and lacrosse in his
spare time and will attend Curry College next year with
the hope of becoming an athletic trainer and coach
after he graduates. He is the son of Christine and
Dean Carter of Ashburnham.
Clark Dumart
Shrewsbury High
Senior, Forward
Dumart tallied 21 goals and added
16 assists for the Colonials as
the senior center helped Shrewsbury
to the Central Mass. Division 3
final. Dumart, also a standout golfer
for Shrewsbury, led his team, the
Roy Conference, and Central Mass.
Division 3 in points this season.
Dumart was an assistant captain for
coach John Binkoski and was
named the team MVP and a Central Mass. All-Star.
Dumart finished a stellar career for the Colonials with
35 goals and 37 assists and helped Shrewsbury to
the Division 3 state title last year, which was his
most memorable sports moment. Dumart enjoys
golfing and lifting weights in his spare time. Dumart’s
grandfather was Woody Dumart, a member of the
Hockey Hall of Fame who played on the Boston
Bruins’ famed “Kraut Line” with Milt Schmidt and
Bobby Bauer from 1936-54. He is the son of Nancy
and Bruce Dumart of Shrewsbury.
Colin Flannery
Hudson High
Central Mass. Division 3 title, earning
a spot on the Central Mass.
All-Star team with a 1.62 goalsagainst
average and a .930 save
percentage. Flannery allowed just
53 goals in 32 career games for
Hudson and coach Mike Nanartowich,
and served as captain this past
season. Flannery said this year’s title victory and a
team trip to Aspen, Colo., were his most memorable
sports moments. Also a standout baseball player for
the Hawks — he hit .492 last year — Flannery enjoys
scuba diving, surfing and singing a capella in his spare
time. Flannery will attend Merrimack College next
year. He is the son of Maria and Kevin Flannery of
Hudson.
Cody Conrad
Fitchburg High
for the second straight year, scoring
22 goals and adding seven assists. A
two-year captain for coach Steve Lowney, Conrad
surpassed 50 goals for his career. Conrad enjoys
going to the beach, hanging out with friends, movies
and sports in his spare time. Also a standout on the
Fitchburg High golf and baseball teams, Conrad will
attend Southern New Hampshire University next year
and hopes to find a job working in the office of a professional
athletic program when he graduates. He is
the son of Lisa and Chris Conrad of Fitchburg.
Evangelous wrapped up a tremendous
career for the Panthers with
102 career points after collecting 26
points this season. Evangelous was a
captain for coach John Butler and
was named to the Central Mass.
All-Star team and was the lone Central
Mass. player to be named to the
All-State team. Evangelous said
notching his 100th career point was
his most memorable sports moment. Evangelous also
captains the Panthers’ lacrosse squad and played on
the football team. He was named to the Telegram &
Gazette honorable mention team as a junior. Evangelous
used to collect key chains and enjoys playing
video games in his spare time. His older brother,
Jared, was on Marlboro’s state finalist team in 2004.
Evangelous is undecided on his college plans but
hopes to own his own business after earning his master’s
degree. He is the son of Patti and Tom Evangelous
of Marlboro.
C.J. Holman
St. Bernard’s High
Senior, Forward
named to the Catholic Central
League All-Star team. The 6-foot,
185-pound Holman played four
years for the Bernardians and was a
captain as a senior. Holman hasn’t picked a college
yet, but is hoping to earn a business degree. His
most memorable sports moment was a dek hockey
championship in Pennsylvania; his team won by
scoring with 5 seconds left. Holman said the fact
nobody expected his team to win that title after the
recent death of a teammate made it special. He is
the son of Diane and Craig Holman of Leominster.

— Jeff Oliver
I owe a great deal of credit to Coach Oliver’s program for taking my game to the next level.
Only in my wildest dreams did I think I would be a finalist for the Hobey Baker award and
lacing it up in the NHL. I could not have achieved these life time goals without Coach
Oliver. In the ten years I did Jacked-On-The-Hill I developed size, strength, and explosiveness,
but most importantly I was able to step on the ice with confidence knowing I had the
best preparation of anyone in the country.
second straight year, finishing with a 2.90 goals-against average after
allowing 58 goals in 20 games. Jenkins was in net for every one of the
St. John’s High
8-9-4 before falling to eventual finalist St. Mary’s in the first round. The
Pioneers needed to complete a dramatic scramble to qualify for the postseason,
which they did with a win over St. John’s Prep. Krysil received the
MIAA Sportsmanship Award. He also won the Player of the Game Award in
last year’s game against St. Peter-Marian at the DCU Center. Krysil is vice
president of his Model UN group and has been accepted to the U.S.
Naval Academy and Georgetown. He is also considering Duke, Harvard
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
SUPER TEAM
Player
of the year
David White
St. John’s High
Senior, Guard
A
rare four-year starter for St.
John’s coach Bob Foley, White
put the finishing touches on a
brilliant career at St. John’s with
his third Telegram & Gazette
Super Team selection and also
earned Hometeam Magazine
Boys’ Basketball Player of the
Year honors for helping the Pioneers
to three straight Central
Mass. Division 1 titles.
White was nearly unstoppable during the Pioneers’
run to the Division 1 state final, leading St.
John’s with 18 points in a loss to Central Catholic
in the title game after torching East Longmeadow
for 22 to power a second-half comeback in the
state semifinals.
White also had 18 points against Marlboro and
opened the tournament with 16 against Fitchburg.
White led St. John’s with 18.2 points per game
during the regular season.
With White controlling the tempo, St. John’s
reached four Central Mass. championship games
and lost just one in his four years — to Holy
Name as a freshman. White helped St. John’s to a
staggering 16-3 postseason mark, with the other
two losses coming in the 2008 and 2010 state finals.
White is currently sifting through offers to play
college basketball as WPI, Salem State, Stonehill
and American International are among those in
the mix. White enjoys being with friends, going to
the Boys & Girls Club, and playing video games
in his spare time.
He’s the son of Michelle Moore and David
White Sr. of Worcester.
John Henault
St. Bernard’s High
Junior, Forward
Only a junior, Henault makes his second
appearance on the Telegram & Gazette
Super Team, leading St. Bernard’s with 21
points and 8 rebounds per game. Henault
notched his 1,000th career point this year,
joining his older brother Tim — who was also a
Super Teamer — in accomplishing that feat.
That milestone and the Bernardians’ Central
Mass. Division 2 title last year were Henault’s
most memorable sports moments. He proved
he can score in bunches, notching a career-high 40 points this
year against St. Peter-Marian. Henault enjoys playing the FIFA
Soccer video game, cribbage, and basketball with friends and for
his AAU team. He is the son of Stephanie and Scott Henault of
Lunenburg.
Zach Auguste
Marlboro High
Junior, Forward/Center
The 6-foot-9 Auguste helped the
Panthers to the Central Mass.
Division 1 semifinals, averaging
more than 21 points a game as
Marlboro finished 15-7. Auguste,
who earned his first berth on the
Mid-Wach B All-Star team, was a
Mid-Wach B All-Star last spring after
his first season playing volleyball for
the Panthers. Auguste recorded five
triple-doubles this season and finished his junior year
by scoring 25 points in a loss to St. John’s at WPI. His
most memorable moment was a game this year in
which he had 25 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocks.
Auguste is undecided on his plans after next year, but
he has been getting plenty of looks from college
basketball programs. Auguste hopes to pursue a
career in business after he graduates. He is the son of
Lea Tzimoulis of Marlboro.
Emmanuel Feraud
South High
Senior, Guard
One of the more dynamic guards
in the area, Feraud helped the
Colonels earn a berth in the Division
1 tournament after averaging 17.5
points, 5 assists and 1.5 steals for
coach Pat Williams. Feraud is a
three-time captain and team MVP for
South, and was a Division 1 pick for
last year’s T&G All-Star team. Feraud
recalls a big win over St. John’s
High as a junior as his most memorable sports
moment. The 5-foot-10 Feraud enjoys playing video
games and spending time with friends. He is undecided
on college plans, but is hoping to decide between
St. John’s University, Bridgeport, Worcester
State and UMass-Dartmouth. Feraud hopes to own his
own business someday. His cousin, Muka Sunday,
was a standout football player at North High in 2006.
He’s the son of Evelyn Feraud of Worcester.
Cedric Kuakumensah
The 6-foot-7 Kuakumensah was
a dominating presence inside
for the Polar Bears this season,
helping North to the Central Mass.
the second year in a row. Kuakumensah
led a talented crop of
players to an 18-5 record, averaging
11.6 points a game for coach
Al Pettway. Kuakumensah said
playing for the title for the past two seasons, as
well as getting to play for his AAU team in tournaments
in Las Vegas and California, were his most
memorable sports moments. Kuakumensah hopes
to become a financial adviser or an accountant
when he graduates from college. Kuakumensah
enjoys playing basketball, poker and hanging out
with friends in his spare time. He is the son of
Dopé and Richard Kuakumensah of Worcester.
championship, averaging 15 points
a game as Whitinsville Christian
finished 20-5 after losing a doubleovertime
thriller to New Leadership
in the state semifinals. This year’s
title win provided Dykstra’s most
memorable sports moment. The
6-foot-2 forward scored 29 points in
the state semifinals after scoring 13 in a win over
Maynard to capture the CMass title. Dykstra, the Dual
Valley Conference MVP, was named team MVP as a
junior. He was also a Central Mass. and Dual Valley
Conference all-star in soccer last fall. Dykstra is hoping
to attend Calvin College or Hope College and
pursue a degree in physical therapy to become an
athletic trainer. He is the son of Mary and Bruce Dykstra
of Douglas.
Jake Gubitose
Tantasqua Regional
Senior, Guard
A
two-time Southern Worcester
County League All-Star, Gubitose
helped the Warriors to a 13-8
record before falling in the Division
1 tournament. Gubitose, a two-year
captain, led the SWCL Central by
averaging 19.7 points and added
8.7 assists and 5.2 steals per
game. Gubitose is also a two-time
SWCL All-Star in soccer. He enjoys
playing sports and hanging out with friends in his
spare time. Gubitose seemed to have his biggest
games when it mattered most, scoring 30 points and
adding clutch free throws in a win over Northbridge to
seal the SWCL Central championship. Gubitose was
also a member of Tantasqua’s 2008 Division 2 state
finalist squad, which he considers his most memorable
sports moment. He’s the son of Barbara and
Joseph Gubitose of Fiskdale.
Derek McCaffrey
Groton-Dunstable Regional
Senior, Guard
One of the fastest players in Central
Mass., McCaffrey was named
the co-MVP of Mid-Wach B with
teammate Ryan Romich after helping
the Crusaders to the Central Mass.
Division 2 title. That was his second
consecutive league MVP honor,
joining his award for boys’ soccer.
McCaffrey also earned a spot on the
T&G Super Team as the boys’ soccer
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
SUPER TEAM
Player
of the year
Jacqui Brugliera
Wachusett Regional
Senior, forward
The 6-foot Brugliera is the Hometeam
Magazine Girls’ Basketball
Player of the Year after averaging a
double-double (21 points, 10
rebounds) and leading the Mountaineers
to the Central Mass. Division
1 final.
She was at her best in the biggest
games, including a 27-point performance
in a win over state champion
Andover in January. She considers that her
most memorable sports moment.
Brugliera makes her second straight appearance on
the T&G Super Team and has been team MVP the last
two seasons. After playing her first two seasons at
Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, she scored her
1,000th career point last year for Wachusett. She was
a Mid-Wach A All-Star the last two years and was the
Mountaineers’ captain this season as well as a McDonald’s
All-American nominee and Gatorade Massachusetts
Player of the Year nominee.
She has earned a basketball scholarship to Division
2 Bentley College, where she plans to pursue a career
in business management.
“Jacqui is a tremendous rebounder, a great shooter
and a great defender,” Wachusett coach Jim Oxford
said last fall. “She’s strong and is very tough mentally
and physically. I’ve been very fortunate — blessed,
really — to have the opportunity to coach her.”
Brugliera also played volleyball at Wachusett and
field hockey at Cushing. She is the daughter of Jennifer
and Robert Brugliera of Fitchburg.
Mary Barbale
Shepherd Hill Regional
Senior, Guard
and connected on 5 of 10
3-pointers against Wachusett to
lead the Rams to their second
straight Central Mass. Division 1
title. The home-schooled senior
considers winning back-to-back
district championships her most
memorable sports moment. She
scored 12 points in Shepherd Hill’s
loss to Longmeadow in the state semifinals. A year
earlier, she helped the Rams reach the state final. A
four-year player for coach Jim Hackenson’s Rams,
Barbale has also been a Southern Worcester
County League All-Star in volleyball and track. She
is one of three Shepherd Hill players on the T&G
Super Team. She played soccer her first three
years before switching to volleyball last fall. Barbale
She scored 18 in a semifinal victory
being a district champion every year
in high school to be her most memorable
sports moment. Burns, a basketball captain this
year, scored more than 800 points in her career. She
also played varsity soccer for four years and is playing
tennis this spring. She enjoys snowboarding when
she’s not playing basketball. She is undecided about
1,000th career point in February,
then helped lead Shepherd Hill to its
second straight Central Mass. Division
1 title a few weeks later. She
considers playing in the state final as
a junior against Central Catholic to be
her most memorable sports moment, but she has had a
lot of those. The 5-foot-9 Boutilette was a Southern
Worcester County League All-Star as a freshman and a
Central Mass. Division 1 All-Star as sophomore. She
year in a row this season, averaging
most memorable sports moments. The
Millbury captain has been a Southern Worcester County
moments. She averaged 15 points,
5.5 assists and 6 steals a game for
Assabet. In a Central Mass. Division 3
playoff win over Littleton, Joubert had 20 points, 10
of the year
Byron M. Jones
Westboro High
Senior, 1,000
It was a season brimming with
individual and team accomplishments
for Jones, who solidified his
standing as a national-caliber
competitor in the middle distances
while being named Hometeam
Magazine Boys’ Track Athlete of
the Year. The honor comes on the
heels of being named Runner of the
Year in cross-country.
Jones took ownership of the 1,000-meter run at the
Central Mass. Division 1 Championships, where his
victory helped spark the Rangers to their first team
title. He then took the show on the road, winning the
Division 2 state and All-State championships in
Boston. His time of 2 minutes, 29.90 seconds at the
latter event stands as the eighth fastest in the United
States this winter. Jones wrapped it all by earning
All-America honors with his sixth-place finish in
the 800 at the Nike Indoor Nationals. His time of
1:53.85 is ranked No. 11 in the nation. He also took
reviews after a succession of medalwinning
performances. The same
held true this winter during an inaugural
indoor season in which Belton
won the Central Mass. Division 1
title (6 feet, 4 inches), placed second at the Division 1
state meet (6-6), third at All-States (6-6), and second
at New Englands (6-7). Belton’s top jump this winter
was 6-8, just an inch off his personal best. He considers
placing third as the youngest competitor at last
spring’s New Englands as his most memorable sports
moment. Belton, who enjoys playing basketball and
football, aspires to compete in a Division 1 track program
in college. He is the son of Donna and Tobey
Belton of Westminster.
Angelito Destin
Doherty High
Senior, High Jump/55 Hurdles
Two years of indoor track have
resulted in two T&G Super Team
berths for Destin. The 5-foot-11,
178-pound senior displayed his
speed, strength and stamina by
taking second in the high jump (6
feet, 4 inches) and third in the
55-meter hurdles (8.25 seconds) at
the Central Mass. Division 1 Championships.
Destin’s postseason also
included strong showings in the high jump at the
Division 1 state meet (third), All-States (ninth) and the
Nike Indoor Nationals (12th). He has cleared 6-5 in
the high jump and covered the hurdles in 8.15, both
school records. Setting the high jump mark is his most
memorable sports moment. Destin, who enjoys working
out and drawing, also played football for the Highlanders.
Destin looks up to his brother, James
Bordes, who was an outstanding soccer player in
Haiti, as a father figure. He is the son of Monique
Destin of Worcester.
Jeff Bush
Westboro High
Senior, 2-mile
No event had more top-end
talent from this area than the
2-mile, a group that included the
hard-working and harder-running
Bush. The senior standout
repeated as the Central Mass.
Division 1 champion in the daunting
distant event while helping the
Rangers add the team title to the
one they won in cross-country in
November. His time of 9 minutes, 42.72 seconds
broke — by more than 2 seconds — a meet record
that had stood for 25 years. Bush then placed
second at the Division 2 state meet (9:26.75) and
sixth at All-States (9:31.76). His effort of 9:22.89
at the MSTCA Elite Meet in January was the third
fastest in the state this winter. A five-time T&G
Super Team member, Bush will attend Brown University.
He is the son of Kathleen and Brian Bush
of Westboro.
Peter Hagermoser
Nashoba Regional
Senior, Shot Put
Hagermoser earned a spot on
the T&G Super Team in football
for his dominant line play for
the playoff-qualifying Chieftains.
The accolades continue to come
his way after an indoor track
season that included winning the
shot put at the Central Mass.
Division 1 Championships with a
toss of 46 feet, 8 inches. Hagermoser
then upped that figure to 46-11 while grabbing
seventh at the Division 3 state meet and
qualifying for All-States, which he considers his
most memorable sports moment. The 6-foot-4,
300-pound senior played varsity basketball and
lacrosse before transitioning to track last year.
Hagermoser will attend Worcester Academy, the
next step in his goal of earning a college degree
in education. He is the son of Julia and Edward
Hagermoser of Lancaster.
Coby Horowitz
Nashoba Regional
Senior, 2-mile
Horowitz can lay claim to being the reigning state champion in
the 2-mile in both indoor and outdoor track. After easily
winning the Division 3 indoor state meet, he earned gold at
All-States in his trademark dramatic fashion. Horowitz
unleashed a devastating kick on the penultimate lap, erasing a
seemingly impossible deficit before crossing the line first in 9
minutes, 26.59 seconds. A week later, Horowitz placed second
at the New Englands in 9:15.36 before being disqualified
over some last-lap jostling. That time, had it stood, would be the
11th best in the country and first in the state. The Bowdoinbound
Horowitz was then named an All-American for the second time in three
years after placing second in the 5,000 (15:08.77) at the National Scholastic
Indoor Championships in New York City. He is the son of Darci Mickus and Gary
Horowitz of Stow.

BOYS’ TRACK
Winston Jensen
Worcester Tech
Senior, 55
Jensen didn’t start running track
until last year, but has quickly
risen to prominence among area
sprinters. He followed up on a thirdplace
finish in the 100-meter dash at
the Central Mass. Championships in
May by moving indoors and snaring
second in the 55 at the Central
Mass. Division 1 meet in February.
Other highlights of his season
included placing third at the ultra-competitive Division
1 state meet (6.71 seconds) and 14th at All-States.
Although Jensen ran a 6.68 to break the school record
at the latter event, his most memorable sports
moment was the personal satisfaction derived from
being part of the elite field that gathered at the Reggie
Lewis Center in Boston. Undecided about college,
Jensen hopes to pursue a career in nursing. He is the
son of Mambee Artey of Worcester.
Dennis Muchugu
Wachusett Regional
Junior, 55/300
It didn’t take long for Muchugu, a
newcomer to indoor track, to get
the hang of things. A compact and
powerful sprinter at 5-foot-9 and
174 pounds, he turned in a convincing
performance while winning the
300-meter dash at the Central
Mass. Division 1 Championships in
38.53 seconds. Moving down to the
55 for the Division 1 state meet
proved to be no problem as Muchugu finished fifth in
6.76 seconds. That performance earned him a spot at
All-States, where he lowered his time to 6.68 seconds
while placing 13th. Muchugu, a running back and
defensive back for the Mountaineers’ undefeated
Super Bowl football champions, lists working out,
watching movies and traveling among his hobbies. He
is the son of Margaret Muchugu and George Mbui of
Holden.
Brian Muller
Hudson High
Junior, 55
Muller, back at Hudson after a
year at prep school, picked up
right where he left off. He earned a
second berth on the T&G Super
Team, this time after turning in a
record-setting performance at the
Central Mass. Division 1 Championships.
Muller broke the meet record
in the 55-meter dash in preliminary
qualifying, then lowered it to 6.61
seconds in the semifinals. A runaway victory in the
final capped a dominating afternoon as Muller finished
the season undefeated against CMass competition. In
the Division 3 state meet, he placed fifth and qualified
for All-States. Muller considers his most memorable
sports moment to be anchoring the Hawks’ 800 relay
team to victory at the Division 4 state championships
in 2008. He is the son of Claudia and Milton Muller of
Hudson.
John Murray
Shrewsbury High
Junior, 1,000/2-mile
When it comes to career goals,
Murray puts “to run really fast”
at the top of his list. What the junior
means is run even faster because
he is already considered one of the
state’s pre-eminent distance runners.
Murray was second in the
1,000 meters at the Central Mass.
Division 1 meet before shifting to the
2-mile when the racing moved to the
Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. He went on to win the
Division 1 state meet, finish third at All-States, and
second at the New Englands in 9 minutes, 22.53
seconds. That’s the second-fastest time in the state
this winter. A two-time T&G All-Star in cross-country,
Murray considers competing at the Foot Locker
National Championships in San Diego in December to
be his most memorable sports moment. He is the son
of Cheryl and Mark Murray of Shrewsbury.
Jake Reed
North Middlesex Regional
Junior, 600
It was a breakout season for Reed,
who got his postseason off to a
rousing start by handily winning the
600-meter run at the Mid-Wach A
and Central Mass. Division 1 championships.
He then finished third at
the Division 2 state meet, improving
on his performance of a year ago by
seven places and more than 4
seconds. Reed added to his burgeoning
medal collection by racing to sixth place at
All-States, his time of 1 minute, 23.57 seconds the
ninth fastest in the state this winter. He capped it all
off by placing 16th at the New Englands. Reed, who
also runs cross-country and outdoor track, lists astronomy,
astrophotography and the piano among his
other interests, and hopes to become an aerospace
engineer. He is the son of Chris and Greg Reed of
Pepperell.
Duy Truong
Doherty High
Junior, 55/55 Hurdles
A
captain since his freshman year,
Truong — hurdles or no hurdles —
again set the pace for the Highlanders.
The 5-foot-9, 155-pound
junior was sixth in the 55-meter
dash at the Central Mass. Division 1
Championships in 6.85 seconds.
He then moved to the 55 hurdles,
taking sixth at the Division 1 state
meet in 8.05. Truong, the only
CMass competitor in the field, set a school record of
7.88 at All-States while finishing ninth, missing out on
qualifying for the final by one place and three-hundredths
of a second. A T&G Super Team member in
outdoor track last year, Truong also plays football for
the Highlanders and considers returning a kick for a
touchdown against Holy Name to be his most memorable
sports moment. Off the field, he enjoys taking
apart and rebuilding computers. He is the son of Hue
Tran of Worcester.
Brendan Whitson
Auburn High
Senior, 300/Long Jump
Whitson is in the midst of a terrific
senior year, one in which he
has earned All-State honors in soccer
and now his first T&G Super
Team berth. A former middle-distance
runner, Whitson posted an
easy victory in the 300-meter dash
at the Central Mass. Division 2 meet
in 37.73 seconds. The Rockets’
two-time captain then placed third in
the 300 (36.40) and fifth in the long jump (20 feet,
7 1 ⁄4 inches) at the Division 4 state meet before taking
fifth in the long jump at All-States (21-4- 1 ⁄2). He wrapped
it all up by leaping to 11th place at the New
Englands. Whitson, whose mom was a T&G All-Star
basketball player for Doherty High, will attend Nichols
College with the goal of becoming a federal law enforcement
official. He is the son of Jennifer (Todd)
Whitson of Auburn.
Daniel Zawalich
St. John’s High
Junior, Mile
Continuing his upward ascent,
Zawalich added a spot on this
T&G Super Team to the one he
earned in cross-country after a
breakthrough season in the fall. The
closest race of the day at the Central
Mass. Division 1 Championships
wasn’t a dash, as one would expect,
but the mile and Zawalich emerged
victorious in a sprint to the finish. His
time of 4 minutes, 29.96 seconds earned him gold by
a scant two-hundredths of a second. He went on to
place sixth at the Division 1 state meet in a personalbest
4:28.89 before wrapping things up with a solid,
ninth-place finish at All-States. Zawalich considers
winning the mile at the Tri-County League Championships
this season to be his most memorable sports
moment. He is the son of Barbara and Joseph Zawalich
of Paxton.
GIRLS’ TRACK
SUPER TEAM
Athlete
of the year
Laura Williamson
Wachusett Regional
Sophomore, 600/1,000
Teammate Amy Collins described
Williamson’s record-breaking
performance in the 600 at the Division
1 state championships as
“phenomenal.”
The same can be said for Williamson’s
entire indoor season.
The standout sophomore, who
played freshman basketball last
winter, won the 1,000 meters at the
Central Mass. Division 1 championships, set the
school and D1 state meet mark in the 600 with a time
of 1:34.55, and was runner-up in the 600 at All- States.
And that was just the beginning for the Hometeam
Magazine Girls’ Track Athlete of the Year.
At the Nike National Scholastics Meet, she ran the
first leg of the school record-breaking 1,600 relay.
The foursome’s time of 3:56.81 shattered the
13-year-old record by 4 seconds. Williamson, Collins,
Meghan Leahy and Titi Fagade earned All-America
status for their sixth-place performance, which is
Williamson’s most memorable sports moment.
This is Williamson’s fourth T&G Super Team
selection. She has earned the honor twice for crosscountry
and last spring for outdoor track, when she
set the school record in the 800 and was part of the
1,600 relay team that set the Central Mass. championships
record.
Off the track, Williamson enjoys shopping and
listening to music. She is the daughter of Jerilyn
and Robert Williamson of Princeton.
Amy Collins
Wachusett Regional
Freshman, High Jump/600/1,000
What a start to her high school
career for this all-around talent.
After winning the high jump with a
mark of 5 feet, 3 inches at the Central
Mass. Division 1 Championships,
Collins finished fourth at the
D1 state meet and 12th at All-States.
In addition, Collins was second in
the 600 at the CMass D1 meet, third
in the 1,000 at the D1 state meet,
and ninth in the 1,000 at All-States. And that’s not all.
She also teamed with Laura Williamson, Titi Fagade
and Meghan Leahy to set a school record in the
1,600 relay with a time of 3:56.81. The previous
Wachusett record of 4:00.80 stood since 1997. The
foursome won the gold medal at the D1 state meet
and finished sixth at the Nike National Scholastics
Meet, earning the group All-America honors. Collins
ran cross-country in the fall. She is an honor roll student
and plays the alto saxophone. She also enjoys
writing and art. She is the daughter of Stephanie and
Michael Collins of Holden.
Tiffany Daley
Algonquin Regional
Senior, 300
Algonquin coach Lisa Danielson
has called Daley her most versatile
athlete, and the Tomahawks’
captain showed her multiple talents
at the Central Mass. Division 1
Championships by winning the 300
meters in a meet-record 42.23
seconds and coming in fourth in the
high jump. Daley finished fifth in the
300 at both the Division 2 state
meet and All-State meet. Daley was named the MVP
of her indoor track team four straight years and
earned Mid-Wach A honors this winter. The MVP of
the outdoor track team as a junior, Daley won the
triple jump at last spring’s District E Class A Meet and
also led the Tomahawks to the Dick Mulligan Relay
title. Daley was also a two-year member of the crosscountry
team. She enjoys being outside and spending
time with friends. Daley, an honor roll student, is
undecided on her college plans but would like to
major in mathematics and become an accountant or
actuary. She is the daughter of Sheran and Lenworth
Daley of Northboro.
Sam Copland
Uxbridge High
Senior, 300
Copland set a meet record at the
Central Mass. Division 2 Championships
with a time of 42.97
seconds and finished third at the
Division 4 state meet. This indoor
season was most memorable for the
Spartans’ captain. In addition to her
record-setting performance in the
300 meters, she and her cousin,
Sarah Zeis, were part of Uxbridge’s
800 relay team, which also set a CMass Division 2
meet record. Copland holds school records in the
300 and 600, and competes in the high jump. Making
her first appearance on the T&G All-Star team,
Copland is a four-time Southern Worcester County
League All-Star and led her team to back-to-back
indoor conference crowns. As a junior, she helped
the Uxbridge girls’ soccer team to a Central Mass.
title. Rock climbing and baking cakes are among
Copland’s hobbies. A high honors student, Copland
will attend Bowdoin College in the fall. She is the
daughter of Pam and Ian Copland of Uxbridge.
Titi Fagade
Wachusett Regional
Senior, 600
The 5-foot-2 speedster won the
Central Mass. Division 1
600-meter title in 1:41.04, and
finished fourth in the Division 1
state meet while improving her time
by more than three seconds.
Fagade, a T&G All-Star for the first
time, came in seventh at All-States.
The real highlight of her indoor
season — and her most memorable
sports moment to date — was being part of the
Mountaineers’ record-setting 1,600-relay team. While
finishing sixth at the Nike National Scholastics Meet,
Fagade and teammates Laura Williamson, Amy Collins
and Meghan Leahy established a school mark of
3:56.81. The previous Wachusett record of 4:00.80
stood since 1997. Their sixth-place finish earned the
relay team All-America honors. The foursome won the
gold medal at the Division 1 state meet as Fagade
ran a strong anchor leg. Fagade, who volunteers at
her church in her spare time, will attend college in
the fall, but she has not finalized her plans. She is
the daughter of Fola and Ade Fagade of Rutland.
Andrea Fanciullo
North Middlesex Regional
Sophomore, Long Jump
After placing third in the Division 2 state meet with a jump of 16 feet, 10 1 ⁄2
inches, Fanciullo set a school record with a leap of 17 feet, 8 1 ⁄2 inches at
All-States, good for fourth place. In her first year competing in indoor track
and field, Fanciullo qualified for the New England Championships, an achievement
she considers her most memorable sports moment. She finished 16th at
the New Englands. This is the second T&G All-Star selection for Fanciullo,
who was the Central Mass. long jump champion last spring. Her winning mark
of 17 feet, 5 3 ⁄4 inches was an outdoor personal best. Fanciullo also competes
in the high jump, hurdles and 400-meter relay. This winter, she was fifth in the
55 hurdles at the Central Mass. Division 1 meet. She accumulated the most
points for her team this season and was named the Patriots’ MVP. In the fall, Fanciullo is a
cheerleader for the North Middlesex football team. She is a big sports fan and also enjoys
playing basketball. She is the daughter of Kristy McDonald and Joe Fanciullo of Townsend.

Alexa Fearing
Marlboro High
Sophomore, Shot Put
Fearing followed up her third-place
performance in last year’s Central
Mass. Division 1 Championships with a
first-place throw of 33 feet, 5 inches this
winter. She finished third in the Division
2 state meet and 18th at the All-States.
Fearing lists qualifying for the All-States
as her most memorable sports moment.
Fearing helped the Panthers to the
Mid-Wach B title by capturing the shot
put at the league meet. Last spring, Fearing qualified for
the state meet in the shot put and discus. The 5-foot-9
Fearing is a two-year member of the Marlboro volleyball
team and last fall was named a Mid-Wach B All-Star and
received T&G honorable mention. Her mom, Audrey
(Young) Fearing, starred in volleyball at Assumption and is
a member of the college’s Athletics Hall of Fame. Fearing
enjoys spending time with her friends and reading. She is
a member of the band and plays Junior Olympic volleyball.
She’s the daughter of Audrey and Tom Fearing of Marlboro.
Megan Krumpoch
Shrewsbury High
Senior, 300
In a tight 300-meter race at the Central
Mass. Division 1 Championships,
Krumpoch finished in 42.24 seconds —
a hundredth of a second behind recordsetting
winner Tiffany Daley of Algonquin.
Krumpoch went on to place third in
the D1 state meet in 41.24 seconds.
The Colonials’ captain was sixth at All-
States and 12th at New Englands. Krumpoch
owns both the indoor and outdoor
school records in the 300. She was named MVP of the
indoor team and a Mid-Wach A All-Star for the second
straight year. Krumpoch won the 300 at this year’s league
championship meet, and she considers that her most
memorable moment. She is also a two-time outdoor track
MVP. Last spring, she was a T&G All-Star after capturing
the 400 hurdles at the Central Mass. Championships. She
ran cross-country for the first time last fall. An honor roll
student, Krumpoch will attend Dartmouth College in the
fall and run track for the Big Green. She is the daughter of
Tammy and Mark Krumpoch of Shrewsbury.
Mimi Narbonne
Bromfield School
Junior, 600
Narbonne won the 600 meters at the
Central Mass. Division 2 Championships,
spent a week in London visiting
her sister, returned home, and the next
day won the event at the Division 4 state
meet. Narbonne then placed fourth in
the All-States. In a dramatic ending at
the New England Championships, Narbonne
lunged and fell over the finish line
to set a school record of 1:34.77 and
claim a bronze medal. Narbonne considers that her most
memorable. Narbonne has been on Bromfield’s team
since seventh grade and is a seven-time Mid-Wach C
All-Star. At this year’s D4 state meet, Narbonne, who is
Bromfield’s captain, also ran the anchor leg of the Trojans’
winning 1,600 relay team. Narbonne also runs crosscountry
and outdoor track. She is a member of the
National Honor Society, Model United Nations, and is
Bromfield’s sports student ambassador to the Massachusetts
A
repeat T&G All-Star, Green owns
the school record in the shot put at
35 feet, 10 inches, a distance she has
achieved twice. After winning the Central
Mass. Division 2 title in the shot for
the second straight year and leading
the Blue Knights to the team championship,
Green was the runner-up at the
Division 4 state meet with a throw of
34-2- 1 ⁄4. She went on to finish 20th at
the All-States. Green won the shot at last spring’s District
outdoor season. She has earned multiple Mid-Wach C
honors for track and field. Green, who enjoys drawing and
working on the computer, is interested in pursuing a
Among her choices are Fordham, Seton Hall and Cornell. She’s the
