HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS MAGAZINE WWW.TELEGRAM.COM/HOMETEAM 18 BOYS’ SKIING Joshua Anderson Wachusett Regional Junior, Giant Slalom A repeat T&G Super Team selection, Anderson had a strong showing at this year’s state championships, finishing fifth in the giant slalom. The Mountaineers’ captain, Anderson led the Central Mass. League in points for the second straight year. Being part of Team Massachusetts’ team title at the Eastern High School Championships and winning the Division 1 Super Bowl with Wachusett’s football team are Anderson’s most memorable sports moments. Anderson also enjoys waterskiing, fishing and mountain biking. He is the son of Linda and Leonard Anderson of Holden. Jonathan Green St. John’s High Freshman, Giant Slalom Green burst on the scene with a fourthplace finish in the giant slalom at the state championships. He tied for second in points in the Central Mass. League. Green’s goals for the next three years include winning a state championship and the Eastern High School Championships. His most memorable sports moment was finishing second at the 2008 Piche Invitational at Gunstock. Green is a member of the Waterville Valley race team and also enjoys biking. He is the son of Susan and Thomas Green of Berlin. James Gray Lunenburg High Senior, Slalom/Giant Slalom Gray makes his fourth straight appearance on the T&G Super Team. He finished fourth in the slalom and 18th in the giant slalom at the state championships. The Blue Knights’ captain was the individual cochamp of the Mass. Bay West League. He also had a fourth-place performance for Team Massachusetts at the Eastern High School Championships, a feat he considers his most memorable sports moment. Gray enjoys the outdoors — biking, swimming and hiking are among his hobbies. He plans to study environmental science at either St. Michael’s or Champlain colleges. He is the son of Martha and Berkley Gray of Lunenburg. Erik Johnson Bromfield School Sophomore, Slalom/Giant Slalom At the state championships, Johnson finished 10th in the slalom and 23rd in the giant slalom. Receiving his medal for finishing 10th was his most memorable sports moment. Johnson won one Mass. Bay West League race this year and finished second in points. He also competes for the Franconia Ski Team. Outside of skiing, Johnson participates in rowing and is a member of the Mass. State Junior Rifle Team. He enjoys set design and construction and is a member of a Boy Scout troop in Harvard. He is the son of Ann Whitney and Rick Johnson of Harvard. GIRLS’ SKIING Jackie Sampson Bromfield School Sophomore, Giant Slalom A repeat T&G Super Team member, Sampson finished 15th in the giant slalom at the state championships. She was 26th as a freshman. Sampson didn’t finish the slalom race at this year’s states (she was 24th last year), but came back with that strong run in the giant slalom. For the second straight year, Sampson was fourth in the Mass. Bay West League in scoring. Sampson also raced for the Mount Washington Valley Team this winter. She is a member of the Bromfield rowing and lacrosse teams. Sampson enjoys playing the piano and is a Catholic religious educator for kindergarten students. She is the daughter of Audrey and Dean Sampson of Harvard. Sheridan Sleeper Algonquin Regional Senior, Slalom Sleeper, a repeat T&G All-Star, led Algonquin to the Central Mass. League title and finished 13th in the slalom at the state meet. For the second straight year, Sleeper was selected to Team Massachusetts for the Eastern High School Championships, and she helped her squad to a second-place finish. Sleeper earned conference all-star honors three consecutive years and also starred in field hockey for the Tomahawks. In addition to skiing, Sleeper enjoys sailing, golfing, music and styling hair. She plans to study business at the University of Vermont or the University of Denver. She is the daughter of Brenda and Matt Sleeper of Northboro. Colin Mace Proctor Algonquin Regional Junior, Slalom/Giant Slalom A repeat T&G Super Team selection, Proctor finished eighth in the slalom and 19th in the giant slalom at the state championships. She is a three-time Central Mass. League All-Star, and has competed for Team Massachusetts in the Eastern High School Championships twice. Proctor calls winning the team title at that event his most memorable sports moment. He also races in the Mac Cup Division for the Gunstock Ski Club. Proctor, who also enjoys sailing and lacrosse, comes from an athletic family. His sister, Devan, received the T-Hawk Award for being a four-year, three-season athlete at Algonquin. He is the son of Nancy and Michael Proctor of Northboro. GIRLS’ HOCKEY Alyssa Ineson Shrewsbury High Senior, Center Shrewsbury’s two-year girls’ hockey captain, Ineson was among the Greater Boston League’s leading scorers with 29 goals and 21 assists. She helped the Colonials to a 19-2-1 record and the quarterfinals of the Division 1 state tournament in just the program’s second year. She totaled 80 points in her two seasons. Ineson starred in field hockey for four years and last fall was named the T&G’s Player of the Year after leading the Colonials to the Central Mass. Division 1 championship. Ineson will attend UMass in the fall. She is the daughter of Donna and Doug Ineson of Shrewsbury. Breanna Monroe Shrewsbury High Sophomore, Forward The left wing had 34 goals and 19 assists to lead the Greater Boston League in scoring and help the Colonials to the quarterfinals of the Division 1 girls’ hockey state tournament. In just the second year of the program, Shrewsbury finished 19-2-1. Monroe tallied five hat tricks, and her three-goal effort against Algonquin, along with the Colonials’ first-round state tourney win over Medway, are her most memorable moments. Monroe was named a Greater Boston League All-Star and has been elected assistant captain of next year’s Shrewsbury team. She is the daughter of Heidi and George Monroe of Shrewsbury.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS MAGAZINE PAGE 19 GYMNASTICS Chloe Herczeg Algonquin Regional Freshman, Vault/Floor Exercise C ompeting in the vault for just the third time, Herczeg tied for the top spot in the event at the state championships to help lead the Tomahawks to a fourth-place performance in the team standings. Herczeg tied for fourth in the floor exercise at the South Sectional as Algonquin finished second in the team competition. A Mid-Wach League All-Star, Herczeg won the floor exercise at the State Coaches Individual Championships. She played junior varsity soccer for Algonquin last fall. She is the daughter of Susanne Healey and Attila Herczeg of Southboro. Amanda Hubley Algonquin Regional Junior, All-Around A three-time T&G Super Team selection, Hubley won the balance beam and finished second in the all-around at the South Sectional to lead the Tomahawks to second place in the team standings. At the state meet, Hubley was fifth in the all-around while placing 14th in the uneven bars, 11th in the beam, tying for 10th in the floor exercise, and tying for fourth in the vault. Algonquin finished fourth. Hubley set the Algonquin record in the all-around last season. This year, Hubley helped the Tomahawks to their third straight Mid-Wach title and was named her team’s MVP the last two years. She is also a cheerleader at Algonquin and runs track in the spring. She’s the daughter of Kathy and Paul Hubley of Southboro. Sabrina Knight Shrewsbury High Sophomore, Vault Knight was third in the vault at the State Coaches Individual Championships and went on to place 11th at the South Sectionals. She was 16th in the all-around at the sectionals. Shrewsbury finished sixth in the team standings, just missing out on the state meet. Other highlights from her season included wins in the vault in dual meets with Algonquin and Marlboro. In 2007, Knight was the USAG Level 6 State Champion in the vault and all-around, an achievement she lists as her most memorable sports moment. She is the daughter of Sofia and Chris Knight of Shrewsbury. Jess Mushinsky Shrewsbury High, Junior Beam/Floor Exercise M ushinsky turned in a pair of top-10 performances at the South Sectionals, tying for second place in the balance beam and tying for eighth in the floor exercise. She was 22nd in the all-around. Her beam routine was most memorable — it was her first time on the apparatus since coming back from an injury, and she scored a 9.55. Mushinsky was named a Mid-Wach All-Star and her team MVP. This is the second T&G Super Team selection for Mushinsky, who earned the honor as a freshman. She has been elected team captain for next season. Mushinsky would someday like to own her own gymnastics center. She’s the daughter of Elizabeth Mushinsky of Shrewsbury. Alissa Wood Algonquin Regional Freshman, Uneven Bars Wood was fifth in the bars in the State Coaches Individual Championships and went on to finish 14th at the South Sectionals and 12th in the state meet. Wood and teammate Chloe Herczeg led a strong group of Tomahawk freshmen this season, and they helped Algonquin to a second-place performance at the sectionals and fourth place at states. Competing in the state championships at the DCU Center was her most memorable sports moment. The 4-foot-11, 95-pounder also finished 22nd in the all-around, 24th in the floor exercise, and tied for 17th in the beam. Wood enjoys dancing and playing lacrosse. She is the daughter of Kathy and Ron Wood of Northboro.
