HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS MAGAZINE WWW.TELEGRAM.COM/HOMETEAM 8 BOYS’ BASKETBALL SUPER TEAM Player of the year David White St. John’s High Senior, Guard A rare four-year starter for St. John’s coach Bob Foley, White put the finishing touches on a brilliant career at St. John’s with his third Telegram & Gazette Super Team selection and also earned Hometeam Magazine Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year honors for helping the Pioneers to three straight Central Mass. Division 1 titles. White was nearly unstoppable during the Pioneers’ run to the Division 1 state final, leading St. John’s with 18 points in a loss to Central Catholic in the title game after torching East Longmeadow for 22 to power a second-half comeback in the state semifinals. White also had 18 points against Marlboro and opened the tournament with 16 against Fitchburg. White led St. John’s with 18.2 points per game during the regular season. With White controlling the tempo, St. John’s reached four Central Mass. championship games and lost just one in his four years — to Holy Name as a freshman. White helped St. John’s to a staggering 16-3 postseason mark, with the other two losses coming in the 2008 and 2010 state finals. White is currently sifting through offers to play college basketball as WPI, Salem State, Stonehill and American International are among those in the mix. White enjoys being with friends, going to the Boys & Girls Club, and playing video games in his spare time. He’s the son of Michelle Moore and David White Sr. of Worcester. John Henault St. Bernard’s High Junior, Forward Only a junior, Henault makes his second appearance on the Telegram & Gazette Super Team, leading St. Bernard’s with 21 points and 8 rebounds per game. Henault notched his 1,000th career point this year, joining his older brother Tim — who was also a Super Teamer — in accomplishing that feat. That milestone and the Bernardians’ Central Mass. Division 2 title last year were Henault’s most memorable sports moments. He proved he can score in bunches, notching a career-high 40 points this year against St. Peter-Marian. Henault enjoys playing the FIFA Soccer video game, cribbage, and basketball with friends and for his AAU team. He is the son of Stephanie and Scott Henault of Lunenburg. Zach Auguste Marlboro High Junior, Forward/Center The 6-foot-9 Auguste helped the Panthers to the Central Mass. Division 1 semifinals, averaging more than 21 points a game as Marlboro finished 15-7. Auguste, who earned his first berth on the Mid-Wach B All-Star team, was a Mid-Wach B All-Star last spring after his first season playing volleyball for the Panthers. Auguste recorded five triple-doubles this season and finished his junior year by scoring 25 points in a loss to St. John’s at WPI. His most memorable moment was a game this year in which he had 25 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocks. Auguste is undecided on his plans after next year, but he has been getting plenty of looks from college basketball programs. Auguste hopes to pursue a career in business after he graduates. He is the son of Lea Tzimoulis of Marlboro. Emmanuel Feraud South High Senior, Guard One of the more dynamic guards in the area, Feraud helped the Colonels earn a berth in the Division 1 tournament after averaging 17.5 points, 5 assists and 1.5 steals for coach Pat Williams. Feraud is a three-time captain and team MVP for South, and was a Division 1 pick for last year’s T&G All-Star team. Feraud recalls a big win over St. John’s High as a junior as his most memorable sports moment. The 5-foot-10 Feraud enjoys playing video games and spending time with friends. He is undecided on college plans, but is hoping to decide between St. John’s University, Bridgeport, Worcester State and UMass-Dartmouth. Feraud hopes to own his own business someday. His cousin, Muka Sunday, was a standout football player at North High in 2006. He’s the son of Evelyn Feraud of Worcester. Cedric Kuakumensah North High Junior, Center The 6-foot-7 Kuakumensah was a dominating presence inside for the Polar Bears this season, helping North to the Central Mass. Division 1 championship game for the second year in a row. Kuakumensah led a talented crop of players to an 18-5 record, averaging 11.6 points a game for coach Al Pettway. Kuakumensah said playing for the title for the past two seasons, as well as getting to play for his AAU team in tournaments in Las Vegas and California, were his most memorable sports moments. Kuakumensah hopes to become a financial adviser or an accountant when he graduates from college. Kuakumensah enjoys playing basketball, poker and hanging out with friends in his spare time. He is the son of Dopé and Richard Kuakumensah of Worcester. Andrew Dykstra Whitinsville Christian Senior, Guard/Forward Dykstra helped lead the Crusaders to the Central Mass. Division 3 championship, averaging 15 points a game as Whitinsville Christian finished 20-5 after losing a doubleovertime thriller to New Leadership in the state semifinals. This year’s title win provided Dykstra’s most memorable sports moment. The 6-foot-2 forward scored 29 points in the state semifinals after scoring 13 in a win over Maynard to capture the CMass title. Dykstra, the Dual Valley Conference MVP, was named team MVP as a junior. He was also a Central Mass. and Dual Valley Conference all-star in soccer last fall. Dykstra is hoping to attend Calvin College or Hope College and pursue a degree in physical therapy to become an athletic trainer. He is the son of Mary and Bruce Dykstra of Douglas. Jake Gubitose Tantasqua Regional Senior, Guard A two-time Southern Worcester County League All-Star, Gubitose helped the Warriors to a 13-8 record before falling in the Division 1 tournament. Gubitose, a two-year captain, led the SWCL Central by averaging 19.7 points and added 8.7 assists and 5.2 steals per game. Gubitose is also a two-time SWCL All-Star in soccer. He enjoys playing sports and hanging out with friends in his spare time. Gubitose seemed to have his biggest games when it mattered most, scoring 30 points and adding clutch free throws in a win over Northbridge to seal the SWCL Central championship. Gubitose was also a member of Tantasqua’s 2008 Division 2 state finalist squad, which he considers his most memorable sports moment. He’s the son of Barbara and Joseph Gubitose of Fiskdale. Derek McCaffrey Groton-Dunstable Regional Senior, Guard One of the fastest players in Central Mass., McCaffrey was named the co-MVP of Mid-Wach B with teammate Ryan Romich after helping the Crusaders to the Central Mass. Division 2 title. That was his second consecutive league MVP honor, joining his award for boys’ soccer. McCaffrey also earned a spot on the T&G Super Team as the boys’ soccer MVP and was the only All-America player in CMass. McCaffrey had a spectacular postseason after helping the Crusaders to the Clark Tournament Large Schools title, recording his 1,000th career point in a semifinal win over Northbridge, then lighting up Millbury for 10 of his 20 points in the final two minutes to give Groton-Dunstable the title. McCaffrey will attend Boston University and play soccer for the Terriers. He is the son of Jill and Jack McCaffrey of Groton.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS MAGAZINE PAGE 9 Colby Reese Shrewsbury High Senior, Guard Reese wrapped up a strong career for Shrewsbury by helping the Colonials to the Central Mass. Division 1 semifinals and earning Mid-Wach A MVP honors. It was the third consecutive Mid- Wach A All-Star appearance for Reese, who surpassed the 1,000-point milestone this season. Reese makes his first appearance on the Telegram & Gazette Super Team after earning Division 1 honors the past two seasons. The 6-footer scored 19 points against Milford in the game where the Colonials clinched their first outright Mid-Wach A title. Reese likes to listen to music, jog and work out in his spare time. Reese is undecided on his college plans, but hopes to become a high school teacher after he graduates. He is the son of Lisa and Darrell Reese of Shrewsbury. Emmanuel Tarwoe North High Senior, Guard Richard Rodgers St. John’s High Junior, Forward Tarwoe, the player that made the Polar Bears go, helped North to the Division 1 Central Mass. final for the second straight season. The 5-foot-8 point guard ran coach Al Pettway’s offense and was a force on defense for the Polar Bears. Tarwoe said the two district final appearances were his most memorable sports moments. In a win over St. John’s this year, Tarwoe scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half and hit a pair of clutch free throws to seal the win. He also had 14 points against the Pioneers in the Cental Mass. final. Tarwoe enjoys playing basketball, poker, working out, and being with friends in his spare time. He is undecided on college plans, but eventually hopes to become an engineer. He is the son of Daniel Tarwoe of Worcester. Rodgers makes his third appearance on the Telegram & Gazette Super Team, joining last year’s basketball selection and football selections. Rodgers averaged 14.6 points a game during the regular season and stepped it up in the postseason. He had 16 points in the Division 1 state final against Central Catholic, and keyed a second-half rally to get St. John’s past East Longmeadow in the state semifinals. Rodgers lists helping the Pioneers to the Division 1A Super Bowl title in football this year and going to consecutive basketball state finals as his most memorable moments in sports. His father is the defensive coordinator for the Holy Cross football team and played at the University of California. Three of his uncles were professional athletes and his cousin, Jairus Byrd, plays in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills. He is the son of Richard Rodgers of Worcester. Andre Santana Doherty High Junior, Forward Yawin Alexander Smallwood Doherty High Senior, Forward Santana helped the Highlanders to a 16-5 record after averaging 13.3 points a game for coach Jermaine Chavis. Santana, an Inter- High League All-Star, was named to the Yuletide Holiday all-tournament team. He will be a tri-captain for Doherty’s football team in the fall. The 6-foot-4 Santana said his first career dunk in a game against Tantasqua was his most memorable sports moment. Santana had plenty of big games this year, going for 17 points and 13 rebounds in a win over St. Bernard’s, one game after dropping 20 points on St. Peter-Marian. Santana hopes to win a Central Mass. title next year and enroll at a Division 1 basketball college after that. Santana enjoys hanging out with friends and working out at the YMCA. He is the son of Vivian and John Graham of Worcester. The 6-foot-4 Smallwood wrapped up a brilliant career for the Highlanders by securing his third straight Inter-High All-Star spot as Doherty finished 16-5. Smallwood was a two-year captain for coach Jermaine Chavis and was named to the Division 1 team last year. He was a member of the Telegram & Gazette football Super Team and will attend the University of Connecticut on a football scholarship in the fall, with an eye on a professional career. Smallwood said that scholarship, as well as his time playing football and basketball at Doherty, were his most memorable sports moments. Smallwood enjoys going to the gym, playing video games and reading in his spare time. He is the son of Yassah Woekolo of Worcester.
