<strong>Promot<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Trenchless</strong><br />
<strong>Technology</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Middle</strong> <strong>East</strong><br />
9 th – 11 th November 2009, Abu Dhabi<br />
Event Introduction<br />
<strong>Middle</strong> <strong>East</strong> is considered to be a relative late comer to <strong>the</strong> area of trenchless<br />
technology. Never<strong>the</strong>less no dig is def<strong>in</strong>itely becom<strong>in</strong>g a popular method among<br />
contractors and municipalities across <strong>the</strong> <strong>Middle</strong> <strong>East</strong>. The fast, high-grade<br />
development of ma<strong>in</strong>ly urban, areas of <strong>the</strong> region requires new, extended or<br />
rehabilitated underground <strong>in</strong>frastructure for water and sewerage, electricity or gas.<br />
M<strong>in</strong>imiz<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> disruption on <strong>the</strong> surface does significantly contribute to time-efficient,<br />
cost reduc<strong>in</strong>g and less risky management of utility <strong>in</strong>frastructure.F<strong>in</strong>d out how and why<br />
you, too can turn “open cut” <strong>in</strong>to “no dig” and fully benefit from <strong>the</strong> latest technical<br />
<strong>in</strong>novations and professional experience from both local and <strong>in</strong>ternational experts <strong>in</strong><br />

Rehabilitation of water ma<strong>in</strong>s and sewer force ma<strong>in</strong>s has<br />

approach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> ‘Dawn of <strong>the</strong> Replacement Era’ where<br />
wholesale replacement of exist<strong>in</strong>g pipe networks will<br />
be required, often <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> urban environment where <strong>the</strong><br />
consequences of such construction may be substantially<br />
disruptive to <strong>the</strong> environment and <strong>the</strong> economy. This<br />
situation is common <strong>in</strong> much of <strong>the</strong> world <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />
MENA Region and represents a major urban eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />
challenge. Accord<strong>in</strong>gly improved methods for pipel<strong>in</strong>e<br />

of semi structural and structural l<strong>in</strong>ers and re<strong>in</strong>statement<br />

Understand<strong>in</strong>g Successful <strong>Trenchless</strong> Pipel<strong>in</strong>e Rehabilitation<br />
And Renovation Methods<br />
Renovation is where <strong>Trenchless</strong> <strong>Technology</strong> orig<strong>in</strong>ally began, way back <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
1970s. Someone came up with <strong>the</strong> idea of putt<strong>in</strong>g a res<strong>in</strong> impregnated sock <strong>in</strong> a<br />
sewer, and eventually found a client who didn’t th<strong>in</strong>k he was crazy. With perfect<br />
h<strong>in</strong>dsight we know that this technique, now generally referred to as ‘cured-<strong>in</strong>place-pipe’<br />
or CIPP, has become <strong>the</strong> most popular method of sewer renovation<br />
worldwide, and that he wasn’t crazy at all.<br />
But please spare a thought for <strong>the</strong> early No-Dig proponents whose refusal to be<br />
daunted<br />
by scepticism we can all benefit from today.<br />
This short workshop will take you on a journey through:<br />
• The clear def<strong>in</strong>itions of <strong>the</strong> 4 ‘Rs’ rehabilitation, repair<strong>in</strong>g, replac<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
renovat<strong>in</strong>g<br />
• Understand<strong>in</strong>g rehabilitation processes<br />
• Identify<strong>in</strong>g relevant replacement, renovation and repair technologies <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
ME region<br />
• Effective renovation design systems<br />
• Environmental aspects<br />
