GETTING THROUGH
SUMMER
We
have had quite a start to the
summer season. The volatile
weather has included very
strong damaging storms and unseasonably
warm temperatures. The combination will
make for some interesting situations for us all
as the summer progresses.
Take the time to work through possible
scenarios that could happen with disease,
insect control, plant health, etc., so you can
better prepare yourself for any challenges that
arise. I have always found that when the
weather is out of the ordinary, trouble is
always around the corner when it comes to
managing the turf. Looking at scenarios and
solutions early can help alleviate larger
problems down the road and keep the
maintenance costs down.
A good way to help gather information is
to network among your peers. Valuable
knowledge can be gathered through the
experience of others. And don’t forget, you
have the ability yourself to help others within
our industry by networking and outreaching.
Take the time to help whenever you can, as it
is part of our core purpose and mission
within our organization. Techniques and
practices that may seem routine to you may
be a new and innovative way for someone
else to make positive improvements.
Also keep in mind that we are an evolving
industry with continuous research and
innovations. The best way to maintain your
value as an employee and increase your
professional stock is to take advantage of the
continuous education our organization offers.
Make plans to attend our field days whenever
they are offered to help further your knowledge!
