20 OUR GUIDE TO BUYING, REMORTGAGING AND PROTECTING YOUR HOME
STEP-BY-STEP
PLANNER.
Buying a home
Visit an adviser to discuss
your mortgage and
protection needs. Your
adviser can apply for an
‘approval in principle’ early
in the process so you’ve
an idea of the amount you
can borrow.
Register with estate agents,
check property websites
and look in local papers to
find a property you want.
Make an offer via your
estate agent.
When your offer’s accepted,
complete a mortgage
application with your
adviser and submit to
the lender:
• The lender will undertake
credit searches.
• The lender will instruct a
valuation. It’s also a good
idea to have a survey
done so you’ll need to
decide which type
you want.
Instruct a solicitor or
licensed conveyancer who
will undertake all the legal
work required throughout
the process of you buying
your home. (Your lender
may be able to provide
access to these facilities.)
The lender will issue
an offer detailing any
conditions that apply.
