Fall Coffee<br />

The Guild Fall Coffee, an annual event,<br />

held special significance as more than 125<br />

members and guests were welcomed to<br />

the home of Karen and Jack Carlson. The<br />

highlight of the event was the introduction<br />

of First Lady Sue Sloan and President Robert<br />

Sloan. Both the First Lady and President<br />

thanked the members for their dedication<br />

and commitment to the organization and<br />

the <strong>University</strong>. President-elect Shirley Asel<br />

convened the meeting and introduced 20<br />

new members.<br />

John Williams MEd ’06, recipient of the<br />

Sharon Saunders Endowed Scholarship in<br />

Graduate Education, spoke on the mission of<br />

teaching and the outstanding faculty in the<br />

HBU College of Education.<br />

Weaver, author of the popular<br />

book, Having a Mary Heart in<br />

a Martha World. Guests were<br />

entertained by music selections<br />

performed by Focus & Refuge<br />

and also heard from Fort Bend<br />

Bush High School teacher and<br />

Guild Endowed Scholarship<br />

recipient Andrea Walter who<br />

thanked The Guild for their<br />

support of her goals.<br />

A special moment<br />

at the Luncheon was the<br />

announcement of the Robert B.<br />

Sloan Jr. Endowed Scholarship<br />

in Graduate Education,<br />

honoring President Sloan’s<br />

dedication to Christian higher<br />

education.<br />
