Huskies win second straight Region Championship<br />

The <strong>2006</strong> HBU volleyball team won its second straight NAIA<br />
Region Championship, earning the automatic berth to its sixth<br />
NAIA National Tournament.<br />
The Huskies, also won the Red River Athletic Conference<br />
Championship for the seventh time. HBU swept the RRAC<br />
with an 11-0 record and then won the RRAC tournament,<br />
giving the Huskies the championship.<br />
Nicole Westerterp became HBU’s first four-time All-<br />
American in school history. She completes her career as the alltime<br />
leader in kills with 1,954, blocks solo with 345 and blocks<br />
assisted with 496. Westerterp also was named the RRAC and<br />
the NAIA Region VI Player of the Year.<br />
Joining Westerterp on the All-Conference team were Ivana<br />
Djordjevic, Natalie Magat, Stephanie Lust, Jamie Sebesta,<br />
and two-time All-RRAC honorees Jessica Barrera and Nancy<br />
Wataka. Head Coach Kaddie Platt was named RRAC and<br />
Region VI Coach of the Year.<br />
Also receiving All-America honors was Djordjevic, who<br />
despite battling injuries led the team in kills per game with<br />
3.53. She was second to Westerterp (.405) in kill percentage<br />
with .394, on her way to being named the RRAC Newcomer of<br />
the Year and All-Region.<br />
Magat had a stellar freshman season, finishing with the<br />
third highest single-season assist total in school history at<br />
1,762. In addition to her all-conference honors, she was<br />
named All-Region and RRAC Tournament MVP, as well as<br />
RRAC Setter of the Year and Region Freshman of the Year.<br />
She places fourth on the HBU career assist list after only one<br />
season.<br />
In addition to accolades for athletics, two Huskies received<br />
national honors for their academics as Wataka and Sebesta each<br />
were named to the NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete team.<br />
The Huskies, who posted a record of 37-7 and won a<br />
school record 22 straight matches, lose three seniors from<br />
the <strong>2006</strong> team —Westerterp, Wataka and Jenae Alexander, a<br />
former RRAC Defensive Player of the Year who leaves HBU as<br />
the career dig leader with 1,873.<br />

The <strong>2006</strong> HBU soccer team<br />
didn’t waste any time getting<br />
involved in the community.<br />
The Huskies conducted a<br />
clinic for the “Mean Green<br />
Soccer Machine,” a youth<br />
soccer team from Missouri<br />
City. The “Mean Green” is<br />
part of the Eclipse Soccer<br />
Club.<br />
