Concord Twp., Ohio 44077 About Girdled Road Reservation Girdled Road Reservation is known for its extensive trail system, cool hemlock ravines, large woodlands, field edges and outstanding scenic views of the Big Creek Valley. This park features a variety of habitats and protects an abundance of Ohio wildlife. It has been designated both an Audubon Ohio Important Bird Area and a destination on the Lake Erie Birding Trail. Girdled Road Reservation is named for the historic road along the park’s northern boundary. A “girdled road” was made by cutting the bark and sapwood around a tree’s trunk, thereby killing the tree. The dead wood was then laid side by side, making a rough but passable road. This practice was typical during early settlement days. Originally, Girdled Road was 100 miles long. Once the road was built, northeast Ohio became easier to explore and settle. Amenities: 932 acres. Over eight miles of hiking trails. Picnic areas with grills. Picnic shelter (south). Restrooms. Selection of Park Rules Park rules help ensure the safety of park visitors and help protect natural resources: • The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset unless otherwise posted. • Visitors are required to stay on designated trails. • All pets must be leashed and under control. Clean up after your pet. • Limited trails may be used for horses, biking or skiing; please be sure to check the trail map. Permitted trail activities change by season. • A permit is required to collect or remove anything from the park. • Alcohol is not permitted in the park. • Pond fishing is permitted with a valid Ohio fishing license. Catch and release is encouraged. • Do not litter. Please note: Naturalist-guided hikes may be presented throughout the year.
