Lourdes Residence for the aged<br />

will be formally blessed Sunday,<br />

Feb. 5 by Bishop Coleman<br />

F. Carroll. The ceremony will<br />

.precede a Low Pontifical Mass<br />

to be celebrated by the Bishop<br />

at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the<br />

residence.<br />

An invitation to the general<br />

public to inspect the facilities,<br />

from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30<br />

p.m., was extended by Mother<br />

M. Immaculate, superior<br />

of the Carmelite Sisters of<br />

the Aged and Infirm who<br />

staff the residence.<br />

Expected to attend the ceremonies<br />

is Reverend Mother M.<br />

Angeline Teresa, foundress and<br />

mother general of the community<br />

which has headquarters in<br />

Germantown, N.Y.<br />

TO CONDUCT TOURS<br />

The Fourth Degree Color<br />

Corps of the Knights of Columbus<br />

will participate in the exercises.<br />

Knights will also conduct<br />

tours of the residence.<br />

CARMELITE SISTERS for the Aged and Infirm of Germantown,<br />

N.Y., are shown serving guests in the large dining room at<br />

Lourdes. Kitchenettes, located on each floor of the modern fourstory<br />

building, are also available to residents.<br />

Students of Rosarian Academy<br />

will sing at the Mass.<br />

Formerly an apartmenthotel,<br />

the four-story dwelling<br />

for senior citizens will continue<br />

to receive more guests<br />

until its capacity of 158 persons<br />

is reached. Already 50<br />

persons are living in the residence.<br />

They include four<br />

, married couples and other<br />

men and women who range<br />

in age from 68 to 93 years.<br />

Completion of Lourdes Residence<br />

was made possible by<br />

the Diocesan Development Fund<br />

campaign conducted in 1960.<br />

The converted building provides<br />

modern facilities for the<br />

needs of all residents, whether<br />

they are ambulatory or nursing<br />

guests. An air-conditioned<br />

chapel is on the first floor, as<br />

well as a chaplain's quarters,<br />

two offices, lobby, kitchenette,<br />

parlor, main kitchen and Sisters'<br />

refectory.<br />

ond floor includes a nurse's<br />

station, terminal room, Marty<br />

bath lift, diet kitchen, laundry<br />

room and sitting room.<br />

Guests are, permitted to go<br />

away on weekend vacations,<br />

have visitors daily, go out to<br />

movies and shows, and furnish<br />

their rooms with things of sentimental<br />

value such as their<br />

own radios and television sets.<br />

Many of them do their personal<br />

shopping in a business<br />

district which is only 10 walking<br />

minutes from home.<br />

To meet the spiritual needs<br />

of the aged, Mass is celebrated<br />

at the residence daily.<br />

The staff is also establishing<br />

a religious program that will<br />

match the devotions held in<br />

an average parish.<br />

Among the Sisters who serve<br />

at the residence is a registered<br />

nurse who holds a bachelor of<br />

science degree, two licensed<br />

practical nurses, a dietitian<br />

and two practical nurses.<br />
