Lourdes Residence Dedication
WEST PALM BEACH —
Lourdes Residence for the aged
will be formally blessed Sunday,
Feb. 5 by Bishop Coleman
F. Carroll. The ceremony will
.precede a Low Pontifical Mass
to be celebrated by the Bishop
at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the
residence.
An invitation to the general
public to inspect the facilities,
from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30
p.m., was extended by Mother
M. Immaculate, superior
of the Carmelite Sisters of
the Aged and Infirm who
staff the residence.
Expected to attend the ceremonies
is Reverend Mother M.
Angeline Teresa, foundress and
mother general of the community
which has headquarters in
Germantown, N.Y.
TO CONDUCT TOURS
The Fourth Degree Color
Corps of the Knights of Columbus
will participate in the exercises.
Knights will also conduct
tours of the residence.
CARMELITE SISTERS for the Aged and Infirm of Germantown,
N.Y., are shown serving guests in the large dining room at
Lourdes. Kitchenettes, located on each floor of the modern fourstory
building, are also available to residents.

Students of Rosarian Academy
will sing at the Mass.
Formerly an apartmenthotel,
the four-story dwelling
for senior citizens will continue
to receive more guests
until its capacity of 158 persons
is reached. Already 50
persons are living in the residence.
They include four
, married couples and other
men and women who range
in age from 68 to 93 years.
Completion of Lourdes Residence
was made possible by
the Diocesan Development Fund
campaign conducted in 1960.
The converted building provides
modern facilities for the
needs of all residents, whether
they are ambulatory or nursing
guests. An air-conditioned
chapel is on the first floor, as
well as a chaplain's quarters,
two offices, lobby, kitchenette,
parlor, main kitchen and Sisters'
refectory.
A medical unit on the sec-

ond floor includes a nurse's
station, terminal room, Marty
bath lift, diet kitchen, laundry
room and sitting room.
Guests are, permitted to go
away on weekend vacations,
have visitors daily, go out to
movies and shows, and furnish
their rooms with things of sentimental
value such as their
own radios and television sets.
Many of them do their personal
shopping in a business
district which is only 10 walking
minutes from home.
To meet the spiritual needs
of the aged, Mass is celebrated
at the residence daily.
The staff is also establishing
a religious program that will
match the devotions held in
an average parish.
Among the Sisters who serve
at the residence is a registered
nurse who holds a bachelor of
science degree, two licensed
practical nurses, a dietitian
and two practical nurses.
