The mission of Advising Services is to anticipate the needs of <strong>Columbus</strong> <strong>State</strong>’s<br />

diverse student population and to support students in achieving lifelong<br />

educational, career, and personal goals. We strive to inspire our students and<br />

promote their autonomy.<br />

Advising Services offers a full range of academic advising and planning services<br />

to <strong>Columbus</strong> <strong>State</strong> learners. We assist students in:<br />

Interpreting placement test results<br />

Understanding program requirements<br />

Developing an academic plan for degree and/or goal completion<br />

Accessing college resources<br />

Clarifying academic policies and procedures<br />

Fitness Center and Locker Rooms<br />

The college’s newly renovated and expanded Fitness Center is open to all <strong>Columbus</strong><br />

<strong>State</strong> students, faculty and staff (with a valid college ID) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday –<br />

Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays. The Fitness Center, located on the lower<br />

level of Delaware Hall, offers cardio and multipurpose strength equipment as well as free<br />

weights. Men’s and Women’s locker rooms are adjacent to the Fitness Center, making it<br />

easier for individuals to work out before and after classes or during lunchtime. Call (614)<br />

To participate in athletics, a student must<br />

be a high school graduate or have earned a<br />

General Education Diploma (GED). Student<br />

athletes must carry a minimum of 12 credit<br />

hours per semester and maintain the required<br />

GPA to be eligible for competition and/<br />

or athletic scholarships. (Some part-time<br />

students may be eligible to play).<br />

The college adheres to the guidelines<br />

established by, and is a member of, the<br />

National Junior <strong>College</strong> Athletic Association<br />

(NJCAA). <strong>Columbus</strong> <strong>State</strong> is also a member<br />

of the Ohio <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> Athletic<br />

Conference (OCCAC). This conference<br />

status allows Cougar student athletes to<br />

compete against athletes at other two-year<br />

colleges as well as those at some four-year<br />

Intramural Sports and Open Gym<br />

The Intramural Sports program is an<br />

integral part of campus life. Intramural<br />

activities provide the campus community<br />

with the opportunity to compete in athletic<br />

events without the time commitment of<br />

intercollegiate athletics. All students,<br />

as well as faculty and staff, with a valid<br />

<strong>Columbus</strong> <strong>State</strong> ID are eligible to compete.<br />

Intramural offerings include basketball,<br />

volleyball, soccer, floor hockey, wiffle ball,<br />

badminton, table tennis and flag football.<br />

The gymnasium in Delaware Hall hosts<br />

Open Gym Monday through Friday, from 9<br />

a.m. until 12 noon. For more information,<br />

Intercollegiate Athletics<br />

<strong>Columbus</strong> <strong>State</strong> currently fields teams and offers athletic scholarships in the following<br />

Women’s Basketball<br />

The college also boasts an award-winning, coed cheerleading squad. All students are<br />

welcome to try out for athletic teams and the cheerleading squad.<br />
