opportunities for individuals to access<br />

higher education by helping them overcome<br />

a variety of barriers.<br />

Student Support Services<br />

Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally<br />

funded grant program which provides<br />

comprehensive academic support services to<br />

enhance students’ productivity and academic<br />

success. Eligible students regularly receive<br />

quality one-on-one academic advising,<br />

tutorial assistance, related academic support<br />

services, and assistance with the financial<br />

aid process. The SSS program may also<br />

provide grant aid to currently enrolled<br />

participants who are receiving Federal Pell<br />

Grants for the current award year. SSS offers<br />

tutoring for developmental courses, math<br />

courses and academic support for other<br />

subjects. The program offers workshops in<br />

financial literacy, study skills and personal<br />

development, as well as opportunities<br />

for students to develop leadership skills<br />

and attend cultural events. SSS assists<br />

participants with the complete transfer<br />

process and provides assistance and support<br />

with overall adjustment to community<br />

college life.<br />

Upward Bound<br />

Upward Bound (UB) is a federally funded<br />

pre-college program designed to motivate<br />

students and assist in the development of<br />

academic skills and resilience necessary<br />

for persistence and success in education<br />

beyond high school. . The expected<br />

outcome of the program is that participants<br />

will be in a position to successfully<br />

choose and complete a college preparatory<br />

curriculum leading to enrollment and<br />

achievement in a college, university or<br />

other post-secondary institution. This will<br />

be accomplished through a well-rounded,<br />

year-long program designed to address the<br />

multiple needs of program participants.<br />

To that end, Upward Bound has both<br />

summer and academic year components.<br />

During the Academic Year<br />

Weekly academic enrichment and tutoring<br />

sessions assist students with English,<br />

mathematics and foreign language studies.<br />

Upward Bound also provides individual<br />

academic, career and personal advising<br />

and organizes monthly Saturday Seminars<br />

focused on college readiness activities<br />

such as college tours, standardized test<br />

preparation, financial aid sessions, and<br />

social and cultural activities.<br />

During the Summer<br />

A six-week nonresidential academic<br />

program is offered. Students receive<br />

instruction in core subject areas such as<br />

English, mathematics, science and foreign<br />

language. They also participate in projectbased<br />

learning activities and cultural, social<br />

and recreational activities.<br />

Email<br />

<strong>Columbus</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> offers<br />

a free, individual email account (Student<br />

Mail) to each currently enrolled student.<br />

Student Mail is accessible at the website<br />

student.cscc.edu/.<br />

All currently enrolled first-semester students<br />

will receive a letter in the mail notifying<br />

them of their account and instructions.<br />

Information and instruction booklets are<br />

available at the IT Learner Support Center<br />

and at the Student Mail website. Individual<br />

email user name and password can also be<br />

used to access Blackboard courses and to<br />

log in to campus labs.<br />

The IT Learner Support Center, (614) 287-<br />

5050, is on the ground floor of the Library in<br />

<strong>Columbus</strong> Hall. Lab assistants are available<br />

in TL 116 computer lab to answer questions<br />

regarding your Student Mail account.<br />

Lab assistants are available to answer<br />

questions on the Delaware Campus as well;<br />

inquire at the Learning Center in Moeller<br />

Hall.<br />

Food Services<br />

<strong>Columbus</strong> <strong>State</strong> Food Services offers a<br />

number of options for enjoying a meal,<br />

snack, or hot or cold beverage on the<br />

<strong>Columbus</strong> Campus. The Food Court,<br />

located in Delaware Hall on the <strong>Columbus</strong><br />

Campus, is open Monday through Thursday,<br />

7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.,<br />

and Saturday 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. (hours during<br />

breaks and during summer semester may<br />

vary.) Breakfast foods are served each day<br />

of operation until 10:15 a.m. For lunch<br />

and dinner, the Food Court presents a wide<br />

choice of foods daily, including two entrées<br />

and a hot sandwich station. The grill offers<br />

combo meals comprised of a hot sandwich,<br />

fries and a beverage. Other options include<br />

pizza, sub sandwiches, a salad bar, soups,<br />

fruit, and various beverages. The Food Court<br />

also features a sushi chef, who prepares<br />

sushi fresh each day. Nutritional information<br />

about all food is provided upon request.<br />

The DX Café and Barista is located in<br />

the Discovery Exchange Retail Center/<br />

Bookstore. The Café is a coffee and food<br />

service bar that serves made-to-order lattes,<br />

mochas, and other coffee and tea drinks<br />

(served hot, frozen, or on ice). The café<br />

boasts a selection of bagels, pastries, soups,<br />

salads, and sandwiches, many of which will<br />

satisfy the palates of the health-conscious<br />

and vegan patrons.<br />

For quick, casual service, students can visit<br />

the coffee cart in the Nestor Hall Lounge<br />

from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. The coffee cart<br />

serves Starbucks and Seattle’s Best coffee,<br />

as well as a variety of breakfast and lunch<br />

“grab ’n’ go” items.<br />

Food Services also contracts with the<br />

Skyward Grille, which provides food carts<br />

in the courtyard, featuring a variety of madeto-order<br />

grilled sandwiches and salads.<br />

Skyward Grille carts operate from 11 a.m.<br />

– 5 p.m. (weather permitting).<br />

In addition, vending machines are located<br />

in most campus buildings for convenient,<br />

anytime access. In addition to standard<br />

food and beverage choices, <strong>Columbus</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />

encourages wellness by offering a variety<br />

of healthy eating options in our vending<br />

machines as well as standard food and<br />

beverage selections. Items with the green<br />

swirl indicate a healthy choice. Vending<br />

machines are also available on the Delaware<br />

Campus in Moeller Hall.<br />

The Cyber Cafe, located in Moeller Hall<br />

on the Delaware Campus, serves deli-style<br />

sandwiches and soups, fresh-baked bread<br />

and pastries and features Seattle’s Best<br />

coffee. It is open Monday – Thursday until<br />

6 p.m. and until 2 p.m. on Friday. The Cyber<br />

Cafe is closed on Saturday and Sunday.<br />
